Witness: Girl In R.kelly Sex Tape Was 14
A witness has testified that a female in the alleged R. Kelly sex video was merely 14 years old when the tape was made. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the best friend of the girl, who allegedly appears in the widely distributed bootleg video, testified on Wednesday in a pre-trial court session with prosecutors and R. Kelly’s four attorneys.
"It was the summer after eighth grade,” said the witness who said she has been friends with the girl since “the third grade.” The witness is now 21 years old and the alleged underage girl will reportedly turn 21 in September.
The friend, whose name has not been released, said that she also could identify the 14-year-old girl based on the hairstyles that they wore at the time. "It was kind of a mullet, short on the top, long in the back," she testified. "I was probably like 14 when I got my hair cut like that.” She said they shared similar hairstyles at the time.
Songs by the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls and other indicators may be used to date the video. Kelly was present in court and appeared to show no reaction during the witness’s testimony.
While the witness helped narrow the window in which the tape was created from 55 months to 33 months, prosecutors were warned by Judge Vincent Gaughan that their case was in risk of being thrown out altogether if they cannot further pinpoint the timeframe of the alleged crime, so that Kelly can have a reasonable timeframe to present an alibi. "Nobody wants to let a monster go free," presiding Judge Gaughan said. "But nobody wants to convict an innocent individual."
