Simple rhetoric is what appeals to the US people in general - it has been the case for many years (Clinton, Bush Senior....and that other guy before him, forgot his name now....and so on, so forth...)...
...emphasis on GENERAL...not all... Still, i don't think he should be president...he isn't dumb. But he isn't too clever either. Too ignorant about certain things, methinks he relies too much on his staff (like Powell, Rumsfeld and all the rest)... And his knowledge of things outside the US is limited to say the least. For a man who is in charge of the most powerful nation on earth, that's worrying... (yes, i know most of what i said is obvoius, but i thought i'd drop it in here anway)... |

Damn, I wanted to be the first poster to disagree with the popular census. Anyway, I am with Streets on this one. If it wasn't for us, the French would be speaking German with an economy that would have collapsed upon itself. And Kuwait, shit it would be controlled by Iraq. In addition to billions each year in aid we give to areas. Now suddenly, these half ass countries have the audacity to question our motives? So we are good enough to give handouts, but once shit hits the fan we are immediately questioned? Damn shame. Wait till everything blows over, and the U.S. prospers. Cannot wait for the wolves in sheeps clothing to crawl back to kiss our fucking asses. |

Erm, questioning the world super power is good, brains. It's democratic...challenging it to bring a balance to the situation... I mean by your reckoning, anyone who does something great or what not for a country, should'nt be questioned or be disagreed with.... |
Doing great for so many decades should be
a pivotal factor when justifying our intentions. Our history speaks for itself. If we haven't earned the trust of civilians in all nations by now as a decisive superpower, then your perceptions are sorely tainted. It is a slap in the face. |
As i said. Questioning your intentions, and what not else, is a good thing. It brings balance - it's democratic.
And there are many people in America who disagree with what the US are doing too (not saying i'm someone who disagrees with the war exactly, even though i don't agree with it either - it's much more complex than that...)... Either way, it's a good thing. Otherwise the US would have too much power - and that's not good for the world in general. That includes the citizens of USA. As absolute power corrupts absolute and all that... I mean you got to realise that the war is not TOTALLY just. There's many reasons to go for it, and against it. |
doing great for so many DECADES? my friend about 5 decades ago the red scare happened and we were afraid of ourselves. decades ago we persecuted blacks and immigrants. decades ago we got into a war that we should of never entered. deacades ago we gave LSD to our own soldiers, decades ago we infectedour own citizens with, what std was it, gonrhea. so yeh i see why civilians of all nations trust us.
