I think its a good/bad rule.

there are Pros and Cons.

I dont see the pros in this rule

Just look at Lebron, he jumped from high school straight to the pros, and that was a positive thing for african americans across the usa (because if Lebron among others can do it, then theres hope for everyone)

I'm dissapointed at this rule, but they aalways changin the rules these days to make it more marketable and more exciting when you watch the game...

Shits not like the old school no more, thats whack.

TeamOne 03-06-06 11:05 AM

for every Lebron, there are a million Kwame Brown's, not to mention the kids that DONT even get drafted and than they cant play in college because of it, and most dont even have a college to go to b/c they were relyin on gettin drafted....... i think its a prety good rule...... the only downside is if u get a lebron who is DEF. ready comin outa h/s..... but theres gonna be maybe one of those every 2 years, who can jump straight into the NBA and be an all star.... and anyways, they can just pull a carmello

Nynth Degree 03-06-06 11:21 AM

Good rule. If you go to college and earn a degree before going pro, and you get injured to the point where you can't play, you'd be able to move on and get a career. Yeah, you can also get a degree after leaving the NBA, but it would be best to get your education beforehand. Through your time at college, you could find a path of life you find more suitable than the NBA, and save yourself the injury altogether.

Sean Gunner 03-06-06 12:32 PM

Ya, this rule just makes it so that everyone has common sense. If you are good enough to be drafted out of highschool, you can easily get a scholarship to any college in the US. Then you can get a degree so in case something happens (injury, pregnating a girl, etc...) you've got something to fall back on and make a living with. How it is racist, I don't know. It is trying to get more people to go to college, which is what the US needs. We need more intelligent and qualified people doing jobs.

Logic The Goonie 03-06-06 12:38 PM

LMAO, who the hell says this is racist? I agree with 9th and Mrtyr about the pluses of going to college instead of straigh to the NBA in case of injury. Plus, it may give hope to the people like Carmelo said, but it's also FALSE hope. If they ain't got good enough grades and try and think they'll just get into the NBA right after HS, .....and then don't, their not going to be in college and will resort to selling drugs or whatever else it may take to survive for them. In more ways then one, it's not even CLOSE to being racist, they're just realizing that the kids need a fuckin reality check as to what's probably going to happen, instead of giving them that false, fleeting hope.

I wish the music industry could do something similar. -_-

you really dont understand college athletics do you? lol, most kids who would have gotten drafted are just going to go one year then get drafted, which means no degree, and during that one year they arent made to do enough academics to find a "path of life"... they got tutors and shit...

what about Darius Miles? he was planning on going to college, but couldnt pass the SAT's (yes, you CAN fail them lol) and couldnt get into college and therefore entered the draft. should you really have to be booksmart to play professional basketball? i think not... just because its become a standard in today's society for people to go to college...

Sean Gunner 03-06-06 12:55 PM

His career can end in a second and he will have nothing.

If he failed the SAT, he needs to keep studying. The only way to completely safe in life is having an education because you carry that with you no matter where you go. If you fail the SAT, God, I wouldn't trust him to play anyway. Probably forget what the big hand on the 12 means.

hot 03-06-06 12:58 PM

I think its good and bad
bad for the poor high school kids who could take care of they family
and good for college players
now if you the 1# college player you wont go behind four 18 year olds at the next draft, the draft will have more quality as well
but like u said: theres pros and cons

Sean Gunner 03-06-06 01:01 PM

Ayo Hotshhh, you got AIM?

TeamOne 03-06-06 01:10 PM

theres mostly pros....... and like i sed earlier, they could just do a Carmello and leave after a year i guess....... but u guys are all thinkin like every HS kid is Lebron and thats NOT the case...... like i already sed there are SO many more who didnt even get drafted and b/c they broke their amateur status by gettin an agent and tryint o get drafted, they CANT even play in the NCAA if they wanted to..... and they prolly dont even have a college to go to to eve LEARN because they were bankin on makin it in the NBA...... and if theyre poor they prolly wont go to college anyways because theyll no longer get the athletic scholarship since they cant play......

and theres more shit, but like Soc sed..... itll give them a reality check..... the NBA should show some sort of video to these HS kids about all the HS kids that didnt get drafted or got cut from the team/injured........ etc.... thatd be a reality check

I do understand college athletes, a lot more than you think. I am aware that some of them do not finish their college tenure, but I am also aware that some do. I've been around college basketball my entire life, and have seen quite a few college athletes complete their academic tenure and get drafted soon after.

K.ontroverz.Y 03-06-06 01:53 PM

that's whats up. On the real. I think goin' to college is the better thing to do. but on the other side. they see it as...why go to college. when we can go to the NBA and be set for life. You know? no one enters the nba planning to be injured. If it does happen and your a superstar. the money you've already made you should be set for life...

no shit... that was a whole lot of mumbo jumbo bullshit lol... i know "quite a few" players graduate and get drafted, but they did that before the rule, so i dont see how that helps your argument...

*SmokeSomething* 03-06-06 02:41 PM

fuck that rule cause all them oldheads scared of us young niggas i would wet kobe ass up plus i play semi-pro i be there in a min

High-Dro 03-06-06 03:45 PM

So you think that since this rule has been adopted by the NBA, players will stop graduating college before going pro?

The young kids are the reason the NBA got trounced in the '04 Olympics.

because the majority of young prospects that would be getting drafted are black and America has been accused of being scared of the whole young black rich and powerful thing... im not saying i necessarily agree with that, but thats the thoughts...

TeamOne 03-06-06 05:06 PM

Or maybe it's just a ploy to improve any low statistics involving African-Americans and education, if any, and people have let their ignorance get the best of them.

if they were good enough to get drafted by the NBA right outa highschool, u better believe they are gettin a full ride no matter where they are goin.... and theyll take courses like Basketweaving 101 if they want (and yes, this was pretty much a course that they taught to half the Florida Gators football team back in the day)

Dirty Nigga 03-06-06 06:09 PM

LOL, No.

I think theyve made this rule cause the young players today have no drive for the game....its like theyll get paid millions, and cause of the wages they recieve...they couldnt give a flyin fuck about the game....s'all to do with makin them want to succeed at what they doin, and college will help you do that & I dont think its racist at all to whoever came up with that dumb Opinnon.

for real tho....

america is gettin fucked up for the younger players gettin drafted, take over in england fr example, they train alot harder and have alot more drive for the game because of that, and thats because of goin thru college and training/playing games on a regular basis.

TeamOne 03-06-06 06:15 PM

who regularly watches NBA games anyways???? if it wasnt for Fantasy NBA i would NEVER watch games

Dirty Nigga 03-06-06 06:16 PM

I do............

Past Tense 03-06-06 07:00 PM

IF the person has the skill i say sure hell why not? lettum be drafted

Abraxas 03-06-06 08:59 PM

That's good so they have time to fucking mature and get better before they go to the NBA.
Look at Kobe. That man is selfish as fuck.
The only person I think should go straight to the NBA is Greg Oden. That man is a fucking beast in the court.

dazy 03-06-06 10:31 PM

cons what happens if u aint good enough to get education in college and basketball is all u got in high school ?

Sik Wit It 03-07-06 03:23 AM

Ever since LeBron came in the NBA, they stopped that shit. Old news.. nuttin new.

Dirty Nigga 03-07-06 12:32 PM

Ok, cause they train and play alot more regulary out there I assumed they go thru college
