Suburbs vs. The ghetto
alright lets look at this for a second.....
why is it that people seem to respect you more as an emcee regarding where you are from...if your from teh ghetto or the hood so to speak. people look at you with more respect as an emcee. but if your from the suburbs and shit you arn't on the same level as these rappers a lot of people dont' even know it but these peole you see in teh mainstream, they arn't even from the hood.....growing up they lived next door to Danny and Becky Smith on 1456 Pleasent Lane..... shit nobody reps the suburbs except for like DZK...... people look at living and bieng from teh suburbs and rapping as a bad thing.... shit i'm not from the ghetto, a matter of fact, fuck the ghetto....i'm from the burbs aight. i dind't have it hard growing up. my parents provided for me and everything...i don't fuck with no foodstamps or any welfare/workface.....i'm a suburban nigga...my life is FUCKIN GOOD.... what yall think about this shit |
it all depends what image your trying to portray, if tryin to be a 'thug' and do tha gangsta rap thang, you aint gonna get props if your reppin the O.C.... but i think most headz dont really give a shit if your from tha burbs or ghetto, as long as you aint tryin rock a certain image that dont fit your surrondings and experiences...
|
depends on your fan base
the ghetto fans relate better to ghetto born rappers also depends on your lyrical content |
i rep the burbs....to the fullest. im actually in the process of a song repping the burbs lmao
|
yo^ moms wants me to mow the lawn
but we're too broke for gas, to turn it on! "dont you be messing in my garage son!" "Ike take out the trash before the garbage man comes!" |
my uncle lives in tha burbs, n wen i go 2 vizit him its wierd, big ass houses n expensive cars n pools n shit. shit aint my style at all, it just feels so safe, lol. werd
|

Quote:

Quote:

Quote:
lmfao word... but uhh....not exactly the direction i was planning on taking it lol |
I get respect for what I do, not where I come from.
|
theres alot more peace of mind in the suburbs but uhh
thats why you pay more for houses there to get away from the rowdyness aint no shame in that |
I live in a shity nighboorhood.
No suburbs no rich houses. just a buch on teens and kids "Hustling" on the block. Pssh..... I want to live in the burbs... :( |
Look, I'm from the hood. Don't EVER say fuck the hood again. People from the hood wanna hear people from the hood because they need to relate to a common struggle. It's like being shot with a 12 guage and then hearing someone rap about being shot with a pellot gun. I don't believe in enviornmental discrimination, but what the suburban struggle has been lack of authenticity. You feel like you wanna be involved with Hip Hop but when you do people make you feel like you're an imitation and aren't real, this is wrong. Although, that's a pale struggle when considering the shit people in my neighborhood have to go through. Try to be understanding of why things are the way they are. THe problem with alot of suburban people is, they try to make their neighborhoods like ours. Which is completly retarded because they should be using their different enviornment to create different music. Like DZK is trying to make the suburbs look like some hard ass area where shit goes down all day, g. You can rap about it, and everyone has thier own struggle, just don't ignore our strugle to add more justification to your own.

werd that the truth my friend |
Quote:
woa if some one don't wanna rap about how hard indph has it then he aint gotta he can still rap about ther own struggle. to be honest i don't think rap music is about sturggle as much as it used to be with tupac it more about achivment and fucking up some dude smack hoe's and gettin crunk |
The way I see it is both places are bad.
Do a crime in the suburbs and you'll get busted most likely as cops care. Do a crime in the ghetto and you wont get busted, but the crime could be like volience so iono. Ghetto your fighting regular ghetto ppl, suburbs your fighting cops. |
I didn't say that. I mean, don't insult our areas because of your problems. I don't mean you have to rap about our problems all the time, I actually said the opposite. It seems like "the hood" problems have become "old" or just played out. It's actually become some fuckin joke for people who don't live here. People mock how we talk what we rap about, I mean everything. How many times have you heard some faggot say some shit like 'chea im from da hood g' in a cocky humorous way. See somebody from here say that shit and it's not as funny, look in that niggas eyes and see if its as funny to him.

Are you serious? |
i'm a middle class american....i got problems you got problems.....
but your right it dont matter where your at....... |
burbs = easy life
"hood" = not easy life. gotta pay your respects at least. |
Ha.. I'm grew up in the city......
I dont like to hear rich kids messing round with music trynna tell me shit about life when theyve had a silver spoon hangin from their mouth since they came out the nut sack... Thats all it is...... |
Who isn't born from the city?
being born in a city doesn't mean nothing. |
Quote:
I dont like talkin bout my familys situation dude... Fuck airin out ya personal business on a website... I didnt live in a nice part of the city lets put it that way. |
a suburban struggle?.......man i ain't had not one struggle in my life....
if your from teh ghetto..then its whatever....but don't glorify that... whre i'm from i see people from teh ghetto talkin like its the best shit in the world...i odn' tknow how it is where yall from..but thats how it is where i'm from... |
the "ghetto" has things no where else in the world has and experiences no where else in the world you cna experience. So there are good experiences to take from it, situations like those bring people together.
in some situations. if you're a kid form the burbs man your whole appreciation for life is different, you got no idea what it's like to struggle to live literally daily. You take shit for granted which is why most suburbn kids become complete fuck-ups and bums. |
Quote:
i like you, but you are VERY wrong. very very very wrong.// im a 18 year old GHETTO black male. my life is harder in the burbs (where i live now) than when i lived in the city....... MUCH more dangerous out here for a black male. I lived in the worst part of Saint Louis, and the best part of Saint Louis isnt safe for black people. I.E. Cops, Racists (more so racists than cops).. ima suspect more out here than in the city.. just tryna keep you honest playa.....; |
Quote:
despite everything i've said......this is kinda true... |
Quote:
Your trynna say theres no bums and fuckups in ghettos... |
i dont hav any respect for the suburbs
come'n from QB, there aint no subrurbs until mayb Jersy, shit is wack son i rep the hood n i luv it, its makes u a stronger person struggle'n to make it n u finally do than have'n everything n bein a wimp fuc da burbs....................... |
Quote:
i definitely feel you there, but we're tlakin 'born and raised' type. I know what it's liek to move form the hood to the burbs, I live next to one of the most racist towns in my state, where the confederate flag used to wave proudly. I drive a car that costs more than the average cops salary - all these rednecks think I'm a drug dealer. believe me man, i can tell you stories. but yeah, in general, the hood is still harder than the burbs by far, and I got my share of emotional and physical scars from the both of em. |
Quote:
lmao, nah man, there definitely are, but they're not the types of bums and fuckups who took things for granted and wasted their life away. The hoods got bums and fuckups who never became anything, the burbs is bums who were something and became nothing. |
You do realise some of the people in the suburbs have hard lives, worse then some people who live in the ghetto. Not me, btw
|
Quote:
makes sence to be proud of makin it through sumin hard... but i think its stupid how whole heartedly people in the hood rep bein broke ... why not rep sumin hard like graduating college? wanting to be broke and in the hood just isn't logical to me... i thought the cool thing was to make it out of the hood and get a big house in the suburbs, so why diss on it? theres nothin productive about being in the hood.. all it is is another way for the whites to keep black people down... and if u can't see that then your retarded... shits fuckin jimmy lynch propaganda.... .. yippy im in the hood im cool... think why your there and what all these people that are strugglin around me could achieve if they weren't in such a fucked up situation... look at the bigger picture |
Quote:
word- im from a small town and work in a grocery store... i see plenty of food stamps |
Quote:
thnx for prove'n my point, we rep bein real down to earth ppl not bein vroke, i never heard any1 in my life rep bein broke fam the part were u said "think y ur there" thats most ignorant post i've ever read, ok, wow, i'm there bcuz my momz momz momz was there n ppl r afraid of black america |
Quote:
yeah, I hear it, but I just don't see it. I mean, every "tragedy" you could possibly find in the burbs exists in the hood PLUS the other factors you can only find in Americas wasteland. someone preaching their suburb hard times to me is just comical, I'd say to them: "you just sound like a spoiled ass punk trying to make your clown ass "rough times" sound like tragedies" they just sound like a big ass bitch. |
Quote:
nah nobody's braggin. you'd be a damn fool to be bragging about hood life, the shit we had to do in the hood to survive was straight up embarassing. shit goes wrong when people make their survival in that environment into the only reason they live. They forget about "get out". The hood is poison. get obsessed with fighting it and it'll kill you all the same. |
Quote:
I feel that, and I don't disagree with you, the whole image of "ghetto" has been stereotyped in somewhat of a way by hiphop imo, but it's still obviously a worse environment to live in then the burbs. And as you stated, every tragedy you find in the burbs, exists in the hoods. But by stating that you also acknowledged that you can find tragedies in the burbs. I'm not trying to say the burbs is worse then the ghetto and everyone there is living a hard life. But I am saying that there are some people in the burbs who's lives are as rough as others living in the ghetto. |
Okay I'm from the hood, but an existance of a greater pain shouldn't destroy the importane of someone's misery. I mean of course there's someone out there goign through more pain than me, but if I'm pissed off or sad I'm not gonna give a fuck. I mean a suburban kid shouldn't have to say "sure my parents are getting a divorce, my best friend died, i got molested, I'm failing in school, I'll never be able to walk again, I'm a drug attict, and I get jumped everyday, but at least I have food on my table and a roof over my head." It just seems rediculous to me.
