yeah xbox is garbabe...so is the gamecube...stick to ps2...i heard there coming with PSX the newest graphics that are mad tight....and that small compatible ps2 gameboy thign is comign out to...i dont remember what its called but i seen pics..mad tight yo...anyways...if i was u i wouldnt even open the shit...once u open it u lose ur lifetime warranty...take it to a ps2 sony company around u...or just be like me....go to the store u bought it and say..I bought this shit and it dont work no more! i want a new one! or if u were me actually....then id ask my buddy at best buy just to give me one for free. he always does that...i got more ideas also..but if u do open it...just blow the fan out get a cloth or shit...get static off....make sure ur not wearing any shirts that just got dry...Cuz of static...further more....this should help u out...hoping it does

Mental, did you happen to notice any smells ( such as fired components) in the power supply section. Located right around the same area the cord goes into the PS2?

Did you noticed anything else plugged into the same outlet or breaker that had been reset or is no longer functional? ie... an alarm clock that has been reset, or vcr/dvd player that had to be reprogrammed?

If any of things oocured, it would seem to me that your area experienced a power surge in the middle of the night and or the electric company switched from one generator to the next. This sometimes introduces power surges or spikes on your 120v/60hz power lines. It's a very common condition, one known to make electronic repair shops tons of money. The fuse in the PS2 power section is a very sensitive type (non slow blow), inorder to protect your unit from these voltage/fire hazards. If you are out of the warranty period, then I suggest you take a look at this fuse. You can get the shcematics for your playstation online. Same place where you would get the information on how to chip the PS2. It's not very difficult at all, and its easy to tell a bad fuse. I am almost certain this is your problem based on the description of the anomoly. Let me know if you need any more technical assistance.

Actually, I had an Xbox before the PS2... and I couldn't stand it and the games for the system. So I sold it and bought a PS2.

maybe the ps2 has a short inside its power supply.....im in electronics class an i fixed my ps2 in there the teacher took me through the whole process. Its difficult but its not worth paying 50 dollars for a piece of supplys that are only 1 dollar all togetheer and u can learn how to put it togehter....u know...maybe u have a short...if not...then i dont know wtf is wrong...just my 2$ cents

When my PS2 broke, I took it to my local repair shop and they fixed it no problem. (My tray was just broke and jammed though.. ) I'd listen to Opey, he knows his geeky shit.

i agree..just do whatever to get it fixed...if you got money to spend..then thats the way....but if you dont want to spend 50 dollars..try everysolution first..then try to get it fixed. i dont know if its still 50 dollars maybe cheaper now or higher

hmm... its funny how all the ps2 games are startin to come out on xbox now. i wonder why? maybe cause the xbox controller is easier to use.... or the graphics processing is better... or because it loads faster... or maybe because it doesnt burn up and refuse to turn on.

btw xbox is worth the money just for halo alone
