Rakim - took hip hop from nursery rhymin to real lyricism
2Pac - allways kept it real and stood for what he belived 100%, unstopable
Big L - even tho his first album of lyrical genius was completly overlooked he kept goin and bringin venomous rhymes

i respect dmx, but not cos of that. i respect him cos of his spiritual message he puts out through his stuff. also, canibus, for putting some serious inteligence into what he says. jay z, for selling records out of a car to where he is now. that's all i can think of now. i'm sure there's more though.
