First off we gotta define culture. Your definition although seemingly valid, probably doesnt cover the whole scope of the word.
Aight think of it this way... If an american person went to japan to live for some reason... He would be immersed in a different "culture." Theres different ettiquettes, different things are acceptable, you talk to people in a different way, you're never rude. People sit on the floor to eat, sleep on mats, wear different clothes. None of the popular american phrases like "cool," "ill," "word"... would be the same, and there would be a whole host of japanese lingo you dont know. That person would experience culture shock... But eventually he would begin to know the customs and learn how thigns work there.. then he would be part of the culture. The same thing happened to me when I moved to australia, although not on as large a scale. So yeah you can become part of a culture in that sense... Anyone could be part of the hip hop culture. If you rap, you're part of the culture... Just like if I was to slap some lamb on a barbecue and say g'day mate to everyone I would be part of the australian culture... even though im american. |
