What was the innitial cause that sparked existance itself?

God doesent have to relate to anything written by any religion. But to say god doesent exist is like saying "I know how the moon came to be"..

You cant disprove a logical theory to explain the unknowable without being omniscient... So I'd chill on the whole athiesm tip bro.. Your only picking sides rather than actually 'knowing' anything...

Maleficent 12-23-06 07:36 PM

I think the idea of a demiurgical force that presides over chaos is definitely believable. I just hate the whole fatalistic judeo-christian god concept who clearly defines ethics and what people should do.

No matter what, it doesn't take raw knowledge to disprove a god like that, because when it comes down to it, even Christians have less to say then I do about the demonstration of God.

So yeah, I can accept the notion of a superior force, after all it is intellectually honest to at least consider the possibilities.

Yeah..

Well I dont take most jewish religion all that seriously either...

But I do still believe the conditions in which we exist today do seem too perfectly designed for us to live in to put it all down to chance.. The anthropic principle aside, I believe there is a god.. Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to 'what' that god may be though..

I just staunchly dissagree with athiests...

Maleficent 12-23-06 08:11 PM

Yeah, eventually complexity becomes irreducible and we'll be left with an amorphous power that decides the every movement of quarks and leptons through unexplainable mechanisms.

I consider myself more of an agnostic then an atheist anyway.

Who are you to say God doesn't exist?

Maleficent 12-23-06 10:34 PM

God himself! Mwahahaha.

Actually, I was just sort of trolling in that post. Ignore it.

EDIT:: Well, on second thought, the Judeo-Christian god doesn't exist simply because nobody can demonstrate his existence within the realm of reality. The entire "God is outside of time and existence" just sort of locks people up from actually thinking and instead provides the lazy way out. If they can't think, how can they expect us to believe in their God? But aside from this, how can you disprove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Or perhaps an Omniscient Goat hiding behind the stars in horcruxes?

Maleficent 12-23-06 10:44 PM

Here's an even more interesting question I once asked my dad when I was little, and he got utterly pissed at the thought;

If such a god existed, how can we be sure if it is a god and not a goddess? Women produce offspring, so wouldn't a female be a more logical approach to creationist stories and such? What makes a man more inclined to rule the universe then a woman?

Terumoto 12-24-06 12:05 AM

^Men wrote the scriptures... Personally, I would say both male and female are "God", but are one entity.

Your first answer was way better than your edit.

But yeah, nobody needs to demonstrate anything to prove the existence of God.

Maleficent 12-24-06 07:15 AM

Exactly, but if they don't, they should make all the implications of one on nontheistic people.

Like I told Nos, I'm all for a supreme force in the universe. I just hate the transcendental personality of a God who dictates what we should do and punishes or rewards us for eternity.

Christians just generally interpret the bible wrong, if you read it, God actually comes accross nothing like that...

I really don't know where they got it from. -_-

Comes across as nothing like that?

I guess it is sensible that Christians take some of his qualities way too literal, but in general the Judeo-Christian God has got to be fatalistic. He prescribes commandments to Moses, makes wagers with the devil (the job story), talks to people, and even describes a Rapture and a Judgment Day.

It probably wont make much sense, but all of what you said can be accounted for... It doesnt make god anything.
