The Rappers Who You Know Are Successful(Eminem, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, etc) are Actyally That Successful.
Jay-Z is CEO of Roc-A-Fella, So Like Eminem, He gets 1/4 Of What Other Artists Make(Due To Damon Dash also CEO), Plus Most of His Albums Went Platinum+ So He Gets More Money From that, And Concerts, And Clothes, And Sneakers and All That Other Good Shit, So I Would Follow In His Footsteps. Other Groups, Especially Newer Ones, Are Broke As Hell, Which adds To The Annoyance Already There.

crazy shit......

nuff sed.......

valuable thread here.........good job

prophiit 10-07-03 05:45 AM

i swear i've seen this before.......like i said before you make money by touring......everyone knows unless you make your own beats own your own label and go platinum or better you're not making any money......most rappers make better loot underground cuz the shit is mainly under the table and you don't have to pay for advertising/management/videos before you get anything.......

wogzta 10-07-03 10:07 AM

^ actually, they make more money commercially, becuase with more advertising, more people buy your shit... you need to spend money to make money... if only the whole world would realise that canibus, royce da 5'9, ras kass, and all the other great underground rappers were better than nelly, than maybe they wouldnt even need to be called "underground"

and yes, if you make your own beats and do your own production and own your own (lol) label, you'll obviously make more money depending on how successful you are. But it's probably better to mix up producers on an album so it doesnt sound the same all the way through.

interesting...didnt read all of it but i got the jist
ppl like em jay etc will be rich as fuck...merchandising alone recoups a heck of a lotof money
once ur selling merchandies ur getting rich...
if ur not such a rich artist why the fuck wud utry to live like one??
thats just asking to get bankrupt

agallah 10-07-03 07:32 PM

new rappers like obie and bow wow(lol)arent makin nothin, just enough to show off, but when u've been around and produce yourself own companies n shit, thats when the big bucks roll in

Real Doc Strange 10-07-03 08:06 PM

they get most of their money off concerts and shit

OPTIMUS RHYME 10-07-03 08:53 PM

most money artists make are from shows and touring. if you aint sellin over gold you're broke. why do you think artists open up their own labels and go into other industries such as acting...hmmmm.....

wogzta 10-09-03 01:28 AM

every successful rapper makes lots of money, production and making beats just quadruple your funds

50 cent is extremely rich (altho he doesnt deserve to be) but hes nothing on dre and eminem or jay z... cos they all own labels, make beats, and produce songs... obie trice prolly wont get be as rich as 50 cent (even tho HE deserves to be) but he'll still be quite wealthy, from what ive heard his album went halfway gold in a week, which is pretty good

...OpeY... 10-09-03 03:32 AM

this was good. very informative. its very sad that people are astonished that people can actually produce themselves. only rap and r&b artists think they can throw their lyrics over someone elses music and say they made the song. rock, folk, and country musicians work hard to make their own music. yea yea some dont but theyre worthless in their genre. why would u expect to get rich if u pay everyone else to do things for u. the smart musicians are business men underneath. if youre not into business you'll never make the money you want. People forget that this is all a business. Thonk about if you own your own business in any other market. you wouldnt pay everyone else to do something that u cant afford to not do yourself. smart businessmen take control of as many aspects of their business as they can handle.

nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got somethin to say
but nuthin comes out when they move there lips - just a bunch a jibberesh
and rapbattles.com said they forgot about dre

MonStar 10-09-03 06:37 AM

pretty interesting read....but like its been said before, the ones that tend to make it big in the industry are bussiness men...like em, jay, dre, ect...peeps like that with there own label, clothing lines, produce, ect, ect.....

wogzta 10-09-03 06:56 AM

Yeah, but what might seem lazy in hip hop (not making your own beats) is made up when that artist writes the lyrics. It's much harder to write something meaningful, lyrically powerful, and that sounds good - especially when theres (typically) 3 verses of about 20 lines each, a chorus, etc. where as in a pop song, u basically write 12 lines for the verses, and a 4 line chorus. So thats 16 lines altogether, and pop music doesnt rely on powerful lyrics, so nothing more than a single rhyming syllable is required in each line, making it WAY easier to write a pop song than a rap song. Some songs dont rhyme at all. Rap is probably the hardest genre to write for, so u cant expect every rapper to also make their own music. thats why i reckon doing both deserves heaps of credit that some artists like eminem or jay z dont always get.

ok...so you explained money from albums...thats not even where artists make half their money.

Most their money is made from tours/live shows...then their merchandise/memorabilia is also added in.

So they made nearly 200 thousand on albums alone by your estimates...and thats their smallest percentage of income...please, keep telling me they arent rich.
