i hope to join this circle of knowlede soon

no doubt.

DEL the funkee 10-17-03 05:02 PM

aiyo.

wow. can you explain time signitures and shit? im really confused right now.

xkwest 10-18-03 12:16 AM

don't know what to explain.... most forms of music such as hiphop,pop,rnb... deal with 4/4 time... 4 beats per measure.... i wouldn't worry about those other time signatures unless you have more knowledge in music theory... as far as hip hop... iam not sure the emcee would ride the beat well enough....

DEL the funkee 10-20-03 12:34 PM

well. i fucked around alot with time stretching, and all it seems to do is make a echo type effect at the end of the loop..... now im trying this in recycle, is it better to do pitching and stretching on the computer or do all that shit on the mpc?

because i guess, when i put a loop into the mpc it calculated the sample timing everything, and i cant even change it so its not on the "poly" setting (when i want it on mono...)

xkwest 10-20-03 02:40 PM

1. shift-5
2. select "loop" - f2
3. highlight that shit
4. loop "on"
5. select "params" - f4
6. on the right side: where it says beat.... adjust if necessary to the correct amount of beats that sample is..... remember 4beats equals 1 bar... 8 beats is 2bars.... and so on....

7. Also on that right field is the where it says new tempo is the actual bpm of the sample...

8....you probably already know steps one through 7.....

9. on the left field is tune.... basically this is adjusting the pitch... notice how when you increase the pitch... the bpm increases......
^^...i always adjust the pitch first before bpm matching....

10. now for the actual time-stretching....

11. press f1 or f2....dosen't matter....

12. select "edit" - f5

13. flip to the time stretch menu(you know... where it has ratio: preset: .....)

14. for me.... i don't fuck with that screen... fuck that ratio shit.... fuck that preset shit... fuck the adjust amount... fuck all that... for me its a waste of time... and its too much calculating shit... when sometimes the result is a metallic sounding sample.....
.
.
15. so what i always do is.... bpm match it... basically i enter the bpms i want....

16. select "bpm" - f2

17. go to the new tempo field... and enter the bpms you want...

18. PRESS ENTER.... IF YOU DIDN'T THEN YOU DIDN'T DO SHIT...

19. press do it......

20. walla... the sample is adjusted to the proper bpm

21. i always turn my loop mode off... that holdin' down the pad-waiting for the loop to end type of shit ain't cool with me...
....
you said something about poly and mono.... if have the sample with the loop mode on.... then it will always show note off..... thats why i have the loop mode off... so that i can have the sample in mono.......
^^,,, for me this is better.. cuz i can stutter the sample... and also do a little melody using the 16 levels function....
.
.
.
****.... i always^^^ go through these steps.... before choppin' the sample....

as far as using recycle.... i use it on occassion... mostly for big synth heavy samples that are large in polyphony therefore takin' up many megabytes... sometimes i just don't like to wait for the waveform to render in the mpc...

DEL the funkee 10-20-03 05:49 PM

aiight . thanks for all of that. ima go try this shit out.

DEL the funkee 10-21-03 02:02 PM

aight sorry for the double post.

but, i think im starting to get this shit down.

i just have a question about bpms.

what exactly do bpms represent? this is kinda a broad question, because i dont really know how to explain what i want to know, sorry.lol
pz

xkwest 10-21-03 07:21 PM

beats per minute....
.
basically its the tempo..
.
or in simpler terms.... the speed of the composition...

DEL the funkee 10-21-03 07:28 PM

well yeah i kinda knew that.

but when i up the bpm the dynamics of the sounds arent sacrificed right?

well, i should stop bothering you, ill just figure whatever else i need to . thanks for the help.peace

xkwest 10-22-03 01:26 AM

you just gotta listen to see if it makes a difference... for some samples it sounds cool.... for others its shitty...

and as far as bpm-matching.... if your going down a lot in bpms... like from 100 to 70.... expect it to sound a little weird.... kinda metallic... due to the fact that your stretching the sample pretty hard.... sometimes it gives a good gritty effect.... sometimes it sounds plain shitty.....

Soul Theory 10-22-03 03:03 PM

i got my 4000 on sunday. it is a beautiful thing.

I already made a banger that blows all my other beats away.

. . . when I master this machine the game is over . . . *evil laugh* . . .

xkwest 10-23-03 09:55 AM

^^..no doubt... thats gonna be one of my next pieces...
.
.
i was wondering... how do you save... does it still use zips.... or is it smartmedia cards...?

Soul Theory 10-23-03 02:23 PM

i dont think either, after im done i just save the entire memory to my harddrive

Soul Theory 10-23-03 02:39 PM
