You may think of rap as a form of poetry, but in reality it isnt. Thats fact. Rap is very similar to poetry, but it just isnt poetry. Its the furthest type of music from poetry, when you think about it. Anyway, anything could be considered poetry these days. They are even classifying some prose as poetry. But no matter how you look at it, poetry is poetry, and rap is rap. Poetry originated a long time ago... A very long time ago... rap is still very young. The first MCs didnt think to themselves "Hey, lets say some poetry out aloud in a very emotional and vibrant way while this DJ is doing his thing." They just talked over a beat, said it so it flowed, and made it rhyme. You can rap poetically, but that doesnt mean rap is poetry. You could write a novel poetically... Doesnt make that novel poetry. |

Slow down son, first of all I understand all of the aspects of hip hop probably more than you'll ever know. I've been an mc, part of a breaking crew, hip hop promoter, and basically involved with hip hop as long as I can remember. This thread was only a beginning to talk about the first aspects of hip hop, and if you wouldn't have jumped to conclusion and have heard the album I am referring to KRS speaks of all of the aspects of hip hop as well as different styles of hip hop. So next time sonny before you go jumping to conclusions, listen to the album I'm referring to first. And yes hip hop is all styles of music, it is mc'ing, it is break dancing, it is graffitti, it is djing, it is beat boxing, it is sooo much more that you are right on, you just should have dug a little deeper into the message I was trying to get across. For example if your teaching somebody to learn how to dive do you first show them how to do a tripel summersault with a twist, no first you teach them the basics of diving. My point was only to open some eyes to an album which in itself can help people understand the basic elements of hip hop and where it came from, this is a very educational album. Peace... |

I look at that the other way around. The first thing when teaching people something about a word such as hip hop which is drowned in endless debate by people of all backgrounds. Is to state the definition (The art of Djing, Breakdancing, Rapping, Graffiti and yeah, Beatboxing).. Not untill the end of a lesson in your own words should you be listing references to albums and text's that support your case. Its the structure for any essay/teaching etc.. Thats my reason for assuming what I assumed. But there is a mybad here because youve now shown yourself to be worthy of an opinion. Only wrong part in your post is: Quote:

Again I see your point, but the album I reference goes into the definiton of hip hop and all of the aspects of hip hop. But i'm just glad that i'm worthy of an opinion, lol. *taps heineken bottle to Nos's and says cheers*
Ohh and PS don't remove my sig thread again. :gfy: |
Its in anything goes..
This forum isnt for updating people when you decide to change your sig.. I do stand by what I said about it being better to first give a definition if your trying to teach people.. But yo, theres very few people I respect on these websites as artists or as knowledgeable hip hop heads.. I really dont take anyone seriously untill they give me a reason to... Thats jus the way I am.. You know how it is... |
so does that mean you dont take me seriously? :(
