Wow......you guys are arguing over books. Dooms says read, Q says I'm gonna, Dooms says read again, Q says I'm gonna again.....lol. Why not just drop it and say good luck to each other ™

Good business venture. My studio manager
collects almost 300% profit. But in order to
gain capitol, you need credit. 420-850? Id
say do it...but if theres one thing Ive learned,
its the importance of location & timing.

Good Luck. Its really the most thriving business to aspire.

the point of this thread was to ask cats on the site what they personally would like to have as part of a signing deal...simple question

I'm curious as to what people think...that's why I asked

*Back to the Point

...these were the terms i was given...give you a ballpark idea...

1. 5 (free) studio hours a week, Extra hours = Sub Payment
2. Promotion should be covered through general advertisement
3. $2500 (+) Initiative
4. Production = came from my pocket...how much i wanted to sell, depended on how much of my own cash i was willing to gamble
5. Subscription to an Unlimited amount of legal instrumentals (copywrited)
6. Entitled to 18% profit of record sales
7. 1 year (negotiable) contract w/o benefits or fixtures

Tha Q. 11-12-05 06:15 PM

If that means you'll fail, then your business model must be set up on half assing. I guarantee you won't keep a single thing you said here once you realize how the music business really works, lol. "free free free" fuck that. no way. No label would ever do half that shit, and with good reason. But you'll find that out soon enough, lol. ONEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!! You ran out and got registered a business name with your state (for your 'label') AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU HAD IT!!. You had no plan at all, so you came on here and asked people whithout deals what a deal should look like. This is exactly what I'm talking about - you didn't think it all through, you just ran and did it, as you usually do. As you'll keep on doing till you go piss broke and realize "damn, before I did this..I shoudla done this this and that! FUCK!" But once again, what do I give a shit? If I did, I'd have suggested that you take the steps all major labels took to get them at running speed BEFORE they registered, or would have simply C&P'd a typical indie contract. It's just fundamentals of business, but now you're gonna have to work backward to do it which is gonna be both hillarious AND expensive. READ BITCH!!! AHAHHAHHA thanks for the "Fivesource" entertainment LMAO

why woudl I care if you succeed or fail? Think. What difference would it make in my life? The Rush IS successful. We're already selling beats to ESTABLISHED NIGGAS SIGNED WITH MAJOR DEALS!! Our artists are collabing with well known individuals and it's not costing us. So..why would the fumbles of a gay man on the internet who looks for e-sex (and more, by your own admission) from minors on a rap board really mean anything to me in my life? I took the time to say that you're fucking up, and that's about all I have to say. You see holding a piece of paper with an untrademarked name as an achievement when it isn't really jack shit. You're missing at least 3 steps that should've come before that, so why would I tell you "good luck"? That's like painting a rusted out shitbox with no wheels and expect me to be like "WOW! GOOD JOB!" There's shit you should have BEEN HAD done before you even took that step.

and this is why you're a clown.

fugg, a U87, lol. Good way to spend a few thousand dollars on a, no wait, THE mic. I'm sure they like the neuman in it self, but is protools alone giving them the full range of the mic? You wouldn't happen to know if they used Logic Pro at all would you?

iamthatdude87 11-12-05 10:00 PM

naw all i seen them use was pro tools and garage band....but they were telling me that like the avalon pre amp and sum other outboard gear helps it plus wit the edititing skills on protools

Garage band is actualyl an off-shoot of Logic Pro, but about 20-25% the abilities, lol. It's still a really good program - it's the same one I use to this day. Avalon pre huh? hmm...I was looking at a behringer to finish my mic set-up for a long long time yet, but I'll see what the comission-based con artists at Geetar Center tell me they think I think they think. their answer is usually "go for the most expensive thing you can afford", so I'm asking others in studios.

Oh yeah, are they digital or analog?

iamthatdude87 11-12-05 10:30 PM

they digital......fuck guitar center go to www.sweetwater.com i think thats wut its called they got the factory prices instead of guitar centers overpriced shit lol

My guy has Garage Band on his MAC, but I was talking to someone at Guitar Center and they were saying how Pro-tools is more of a name than something you'd want to get. He was sayin how people save up so much money to get it, then get stuck and don't know how to un/do some ish. He was talkin bout classes for Pro-tools and ish, but he recommended something else I gotta ask my guy what the program was called. I forget the name but it's a lil' bit cheaper...

But Garage Band = good for my guy's set up, it make him not want to touch Cool Edit on his PC, but I still like workin wit Cool Edit = P for now anyways...

That's ironic. They ALWAYS send me to sweetwater to look at their catalogue instead of their home site, though the prices have been identical. And there's a HUGE difference in hearing and deciding for your self, vs just buying something off someone elses reccomendation like a sucker. Shit, I tried out 7 pairs of monitor headphones before I bought the set I have now, I could have NEVER done that with any online spot. AND I went home with it that day. You just can't beat that, so I got nothing bad to say about guiter center, jsut some of their staff, lol.

damn, your dude sounds like me, lol. I LAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH in the face of Cool Edit DAILY!! lmao. But yeah, word to protools being a thousand bucks and uber hard to learn. Honestly though, Logic is even harder IMO - and this is coming fomr a dude who has experience with a program based off Logic WITH a transition guide to look at.

~Lady Fiya~ 11-12-05 11:14 PM

Yeah my guy's like forget Cool Edit and he told me he's gonna erase of his computer...

I have to explain it's value to him, he's like naw I like the MAC ish better lol.. but oh about Logic Pro, some dude on yahoo messenger needs help wit that, he sends group messages askin people if they know how to work it. I be like uh no. Lol. But I'mma have all those programs down pat one day and finally choose what works best for me ultimately. But since I have a regular computer not a comp, I can only experiment when it comes to MACs every now and then when I sstop by my guy's house. I MUST say tho, that Garage Band has a lotta things that seem MUCH simpler to do than it does on Cool Edit. Not to mention how the waves look "prettier" on Garage Band.. it look more "attractive than Cool Edit"... lol.. I have a way of pickin words, but you'll know what I mean if you saw it.

My guy be makin beats with Garage Band... it actually sound hot tho, wit the presets they have for instrumentals. But yeah I gotta try Logic Pro one day.

yeah, some of the reasons you named are some of the reasons I loved Garage Band so much. It's easy a FUCK to use and get what you wanted out of it, it's easy to modify settings, and it's REALLY easy on the eyes, rather than that nintendo'd out looking interface and clunky-ass navigation that the Windows music programs have had. The ports of windows programs to macs always show their bland and faulty windows roots REAL fast, like Audacity. DL it (it's free and legal) and use it a little bit and you'll see exactly wht I mean - or hell, just look at the screen shots. Logic and GB use Core Audio which, if you're a sound-a-holic, is fuckin GREAT because you can distort any 16bit sound without distortion AT ALL. Stretch a new beat out to 40BPM and STILL not experience any warping of the sound, or segmentation or nothing. How the fugg can I not love that? GB/LP both have the ability to do shit I haven't seen in any other program, like automatically putting vocals and instruments on beat, and so so much more. The only downside is that GB can be too short-ended in some of it's features, but I've always found a work-around. All in all, for what it costs (nothing) it's straight up stellar. Even in the range of programs like 200 and less.
