I'm working on getting a new set-up... my dynamic mic did some wonders but I like the condenser much better of course. I like recording at other places, but there's nothing like home sweet home, ya feel... You can get up at 3 o clock in the morning and record if you felt like it.
My very near set-up is this: MXL MXLV63M Condenser Studio Microphone with Shockmount ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs Precision Studiophones I have a Pro-Line Mic Stand Already and Pop Filter. So, what else would I need (an interface?) and for the cables, what's the best option? My room is small so I don't need no 30 ft. long wires all over the place. Apexx, you seem like you know about good choices and prices... talk to me, MAN! Lol. |
Whats a good set-up for someone gettin started?

man WORD to the 3 o clock recordings lol. As for cables and what not, some really good cables would be monsters. Anything above that as far as quality is gonna be a pretty penny - and of course you know, shortest lengths needed. Oh yeah, an interface, I'm a software guy my self so I do the mixing in the program instead of spending extra duckets on hardware with more limits and less clarity. I used the M-Audio Fastrack USB, since..I really only record with one mic, so why get one with more if I'll never use it? From there, just a phantom an phantom powwer supply and you're good. |

What's your budget? |
$500 to $800. Cheaper if possible. But pretty much just some decent start-up set-up.

what kind of voice do you have?, how old are you, male, female, any experience in front of a mic? |
Yall spend a lot on shit, why don't yall actually use it then. To the ones who don't record or anything.

I have this crappy dell mic that came with the PC. And been in a actual studio rapping atleast 10 times. Male, 17, and people say i kinda got a mid-deep voice.

Check my response to LF's post. That's the hardware needed for a set-up that's a lot better than average. Just know that hardware alone ain't gonna make your stuff sound pro. your recording habits are gonna be the biggest influence, and the environmental noise where ever you record is gonna be a factor too. Don't let this thread fool you man, the hardware is the easy part. |
Preciate man. Most likely it's getting set up in the basement. So there really should be the much noise. The info was really useful and stay up.

man there's gonna be noise everywhere..if u got a old house it can creek..people can be walkin above you and the mic will pick that up..anything can happen to cause noise really..
|
Chris Styles, no prob man.
Oh yeah, basements are the home of echo with those nice concrete walls. Thatat's the type of environmental noise I'm talking about, because the same stuff that's lost in the mix on an unmixed set-up becoems REAL clear on a mixed one. 1 |

naw son you can fuck up that mic if you use phantom power trust me dogg it dont need phantom power and thats word and i aint appreciate u trying to be a smart ass be cool... |

ohhh yeah, the 9000 had some big ass box with like 7 or 9 or pins on it's XLR in it and the included 240v power supply that was heavy as fidduck, which would mean it's not a condenser. You're right! what sound qual you getting with it? I was getting less than stellar results with it, even after purchasing a presonus tube pre to mate with it and both just sounded umm..how do I put this..."not good". Cold when the warming effect on the pre was turned down low, and straight up muddy and like pure ass for the regions that the warming effect was turned up, which was like the back 3/4ths of the dial. How have you been making out with it? |
