what alot of people dont seem to realise is, hip hop isnt just music, its beatbox, break dance, graffiti, dj, MC, production e.t.c

in america that unity of all the elements no longer exists, but here, thats what its all about.... some of the greats in hip hop have said shit like "man i love the UK scene, all they wanna do is rhyme none stop, i went to deal real and theres heads havin cyphers all over the damn spot" also all the elements play equal parts in the scene(like it was in US back in the day)

shit, even kool herc(the founder of hip hop for those who dont know) has said he loves how the UK is working the culture and is honoured by the fact we show knowledge of what HIP HOP actually is(not rap.... but HIP HOP)

mos def came to perform at deal real one time(deal real being one of the biggest things goin off in london) and then the following deal real he came back to chill out and enjoy the event as a fan... shit black eyed peas went, and they got up and freestyled on the open mic, and did a pretty good job at it aswell.

i agree canibus has some good messages e.t.c, but his style and his voice just isnt from me, ive given him a chance, bought one of his albums to give him a fair chance(which is what i usually do with a new artist i come across or whatever) and i just couldnt get into it properly

UK heads have more freedom of expression but that in NO way means they have more skill B. big l didnt have a voice for rap, but he had the skills, the style and production behind him to cover that up and he worked his voice rather than his voice working him(which in my opinion is where canibus needs to work on).... i could name many other artists whos voice i dont like but still bump due to the fact they make good music with style and skills.

Well the music industry is fucked as a whole over here. Put thousands or millions of dollars on the table in front of most people and they'll do whatever to take it, even though most purists like you and me wouldn't. klashnekoff(imo one of the best in the UK) was offered a deal by rocafella, and he turned it down cos thats not what hes about, hes completely indipendant at the minute, and has said when the right deal comes hell take it, but wont scarifice nothing for it, and then look who rocafella sign instead.... S.A.S... which as we all know then went with diplomats.

i too have nothing against U.S hip hop either...everyone knows they have some sick artists...but generally UK hip hop will continue to remain true to it's roots purely because it's not been given the exposure it deserves but at the same time, seeing what it did to U.S hip hop, could also do without.

So when they try to become rappers it's not as natural coming from them as someone like me and the skill suffers as a part of that.
