Yeah, but that's the MOBOs. This is the Mercury Prize we are talking about.
I think a fair few have heard 'better' UK hip-hop acts. But just don't get into it. Not quite yet anyway. Thinking it's too close to US hip-hop. So can't get the feel for UK over US. Dizee makes music which appeals to them more. The beats and fairly simple (yet gritty and at times amusing) lyrics. It's just one of those things. I can see UK Hip-Hop over taking this Garage thing. But i can also see it staying the same, it all depends on the climate of the industry both here and in the US (amongst other things).. Personally i think he's alright. But can't see myself listening to his stuff all that much. But he does 'represent'. And does it fairly well. You got to respect that... (Name me an album a UK hip-hop artist has dropped in the past 12 months this year that has been as definitive and wide ranging as Rascal's. Putting to one side hip-hop favouritism. And looking at it from a more general artistic point of view. I can't think of any at the moment)... So Solid Crew made some good Garage tracks. Good pop songs which can be maybe played at clubs. But don't really like there music. and there isn't all that much to appreciate... |
I'd Be More Then Happy If the Uk Hip Hop Scene Stayed the Way It Is.. I Don't Think I Could Deal With It Blowing Up in the Youth Scene Like Garage Did With People to the Equivalent Of Dj Luck n Mc Neat Riding the Commercial Wave Throwing Out ''Half Hearted Concepts n Lyrics That Are Lame.''
I Admit I Was Into Garage at One Point But When EveryOne Started To Jump Onto the Bandwagon Of Getting Recognized Then That's When I Said Enoughs Enough. Aslong As The Uk Underground Still Throws Out Tracks That Are More Then Capable Of Dethrowning Dizzee Rascal Then That's Fine By Me. Obviously Uk Hip Hop is Growing, But Unlike the Garage Scene, I Think There Will Be a Small Group Of People Producing Top Notch Material. Fallacy Made An Attempt Of Getting Into the Limelight With His Album But Never Did Get As Wide Spread Then Dizzee's. |
id be happy with uk hip hop being on the underground scene, but people knowng that it exist
