You do know that the Bible was written over a period of 1500 years, right? And that none of the 40 people who contributed to it really knew eachother personally, right? No, I didn't think you did. Basically a history text book my ass. No basic history text book has been translated into thousands of languages and is the best all time selling book...ever. |
The bible may be the best selling book of all time but it is just that..a book. Your argument about how it is translated into so many languages can be made irrelevant by this fact : the Klingon Language now officially has its own dictionary, own bible, and own encyclapedia set. Whats the point of my pointing this out you ask? People are ignorant and do whatever it takes to make money. You mentioned yourself that the bible is the best selling book of all time..where do you think that money goes? It doesnt go to a church, it doesnt go to starving children, it goes straight into the pockets of the blood hungry corporations. The bible is nothing more than the biggest mainstay of 'Get rich' gimmicks. But I have got to admit, they did a good job fooling those billions of people and all.

You definately weren't lying when you said you're not a good catholic. Cause you really don't know what you're talking about. Read the Bible...Learn something. Who cares if you hate people who pray for something they want...like for a boy or girl to like them? You don't even read the Bible...how would you know what prayer is for anyways? What's the point of prayer if you only do it "few and far between"? To take up time? Help you fall asleep? And if you hate people who pray for something they don't deserve...then you hate everyone who prays cause God doesn't owe anyone anything. You pray for stuff you don't deserve. |
To quote George Carlin : "If God is all knowing, and has this big Divine plan.. he knows what you are going to pray for before you even pray. And if its not in his plan you wont get it anyway, so whats the point?"

I really don't know where the money people paid for Bibles goes to. And until you show me something, I don't believe you do either. Even IF the money doesn't go to help people in need, there is millions of people who read that book, and live by it, who help by giving away a blanket or a sandwich. There's no getting around that some kind of help gets to people in need because of God and the Bible. It's not just a book and anyone who has read it would know. You could live your life by a book that's thousands of years old. You can read it over and over again and still not learn everything in it. There's no book like that...at all. That klingon stuff makes no difference. You failed to see my point. The other guy said that the Bible is basically a history text book. I said why I thought he was wrong. This book is about history and future. |
For all the people with no religion belive in something then all your questions will be answerd one way or another. Religion is what stops people from doing lots of things.. it sets boundaries
ah fuck it i cbf writing about this.. do what ya want |
^What if you're spiritual? Level headed and able to tell between right and wrong (and act accordingly) without following a religion?
What if you pray but in your own way? At home or on the street? Rather than a temple or church? I know religion is there to help the masses. As people in general are not yet ready to have so much control of their own. In such matters anyway. They need some set channels boundaries and channels to vent, praise, pray etc. etc.. But there are some exceptions. People who truly don't need any of it in the form of organised religion. What about them? I guess as long as there aint too much of them, it's all good, eh?.. |
I am very much Christian, Lyrics and wiritng takes me to a spiritual level, but generally when im onlien i try to leave religion behind...but that was wrong and this thread brings it to my attention....first of all...God blessed the Virgin Mother Mary with Jesus, she brought him into the world..he is God incarnate, i say is, because he is still alive, he died, came back to life, and ascended to heaven, alive...only other person to go to heaven alive, was Mary...who was given rule over heaven and earth...I don't even know how to explain Christianity..seeing is not believeing, believing is seeing...thats a good start...anybody have any questions about religion, ask them and ill try to answer, im nto trying to take over Cam's thread or anything, but from now on ill check this daily and answer spriual and religoious questions of any nature
|
People make religions to have something to explain everything. One of the Religions could exist, but someone should have it in their sense to act morally or not.
|
^ i agree, religions are just a form of explaining eveerything..but there is some ultimate truth, that we just don't knwo yyet that transcends all beliefs
|
So what are you saying? You guys think there is 'Some' sort of 'God' type being out there, that's the same throughout all religions, just depicted differently ?
|
I have a question, sublime. Where does it say in the Bible that Mary didn't die? And that she was given rule over heaven and earth? ..It doesn't say any of that. Stop putting her above Christ.

First, dispelling floating arguments.
1-While it is true that the bible was written by many different people in many different languages, the thing to remember is this: It was still written by god. The people who wrote it were merely... how should I put this? His secretaries. Nevertheless, both arguments remain valid due to the inability to cancel either out. 2-The Bible is not the bestselling book of all time. Guiness Book of World Records is. The Bible is the most widely distributed book, often given to people for free. I once walked home from school and some old guy handed me a copy of the old testament, which has in fact come in handy a few times. 3-Prayer is an action. Yes, God knows what you'll pray for before you pray for it, but that's not the point. The point is sitting down and actually going through the motions. I know if I excercise and eat right, I'll be healthy, but shit won't happen until I actually go through with it. There is proven magick in prayer. Now, unto specifics. Skiddz, making stuff up to explain things is not religion, it's mythology. Religion is faith. God, I can't speak for the rest of them, but I for one do believe that God is the same all over and that all these different faiths are just the different ways for people to percieve him. After all, it would make little sense for the jews after fleeing Egypt to maintain the forests and the rivers while walking in the desert. Just as it would be rather silly for the indians to maintain a standard of morals and beliefs that keep them clean from pagan influence. Abram, it's either the book after Mathews, or one of Johns. I can't remember. It's been a while, but I know it's in the new testament. She had what I believe was called Ascention or Assumption. And I believe another prophet in Christianity had it as well besides Jesus and Mary. Und das ist alles? |
The Assumption of Mary is considered a revealed truth apart from Scripture. Roman Catholics do have some passages which allude to an ascension but they aren't very clear.
Where did you find that the Bible isn't the best selling book of all time? I'm looking for sites on it but can't find anything. I've read in some books that the Bible is best selling all time and has sold in the billions. Guiness book of records isn't just one book anyways, they keep revising it. The Bible has stayed the same the whole time so this is 2 different types of books. |
im religious
-1- |
i'm religous.. i don't hide it...neither do i go around screaming about it...
but i believe in Jesus n all... nothing else... i use the bible for the proof... read revelations |
Quote:
Actually, I learned it on the Guiness book of world records television show they had. And yes, it isn't just one book. And they do keep revising it. So just imagine how many pages of ink that is if it is able to outsell even it's ownself. |

im afraid that sonned someone badly. . lmao |
Can I ask a question?
See how there's different sects of Christianity, does each one read and believe in the same Bible? Or do they have different versions? Thanks ps. I'm not Christian |
i beleive that there is a god.. but im the type of person that always question things.. i guess i can call myself agnostic cuz i beleive in god and yet are not sure how to follow him.. ive done research on what religion to beleive in and islam makes alot of sense.. it has stayed the same word for word since the day it was written.. unlike the bible that is changed all the time.. im not hating or anything, i was raised roman catholic.. if anything, i think these books are a guide not to really be taken word for word.. some reasons y i tend not to beleive anything is because of thoughts such as "what is relgion? religion is law.. how do we know that some people got smart n figured out how to control masses of people just because of the fear of a higher being?" as well as others..

For the most part, yes. Jews follow the old testament of the bible. Christians are supposed to follow both testaments. Mormons are supposed to follow both testaments and the book of mormon. But the different sects are seperated in two ways. Either they have one copy of the bible, but follow different rules. Such as Catholics put a lot of emphasis on the Virgin Mary. And then there are those who follow a different translation of the bible. Such as according to some translations, one would construte homosexuality as being a sin. But in other translations, homosexuality is the bee's knees. |
^true but same with the ummmm monothesiests??? i think thas wat there called they follow the same things with tha catholis until they broke off in the early 1800's
