The birds on the machines meant the Shields were down. that's why they shot at the ship.

The veins, the aliens survived off of our death, they started to weaken when they had less blood to survive on, thus the sheilds went down.

^no, the shields when down cause they were dying cause they were sick. they dran r water and ate r food and didnt know there was bacteria so it made them die since they werent immune.

the ending wasn't confusing. THere simply wasn't a climax or "high point" to the film. You know..the moment when the audience cheers cuz the good guy wins...this movie didn't have one of those moments, which was disappointing.
