"Turn your tux red, I'm far from broke, got enough bread
And mad hoes, ask Beavis I get nuttin Butt-head"
-Big L

^Perhaps the best line ever.

NOW,that's wordplay isn't it?We all get the 1st part, that he gets a lot of head. But if you want to read into it a lot, then it makes no sence.Like,he's getting nothing buthead(the person)?WTF is that?

But the thing is,nobody goes into the line like that.We all see what the shit is saying, and it's dope. You think people are gonna read into the shit like you did with frauds?

And Big L is one of the best ever...so,you can't say that the example I'm pullin is from a herb.

And don't come with that "ooh, audio is different from text goddamitt!!"..Cause it's all sopposed to be rap, right?

So,I stand by what I said.WORDPLAY DOES NOT HAVE TO MATCH ON BOTH SIDES TO BE EFFECTIVE.

ok that's a good example of what I'm talking about - just using wordplay from the context of the punch. Maybe most peeps don't read into it, but I do. And yeah ok I admit I like that line, but perhaps best line ever? ROFL, you haven't seen much then. Yeah ok that one IS somewhat effective, but wordplay that uses part-sentences and works both ways is generally dope IMO, but as you say, you CAN do some cool stuff with simpler wordplay.

I always liked this one from DTH:

Can ya stand up to me when I'm coming for the kill?
Yeah sure, you can hold your own....dick, since no one else will

:D
it was worded different but that's the gist of it, wordplay like that working both ways is cooler IMO.

Although I do use the other type as well sometimes, like in the tag tourney:

Damn cheater, I'ma putt ya in ya place and club ya down the stairway
Ya worse than wack golfers, your strikes never hit the fairway

but see mainly in the setup with the putt and club being wordplay from the context of the punch which is golf. In the 2nd line I used the 2nd type of wordplay which works both ways, cos it's doper :D

Lmao....
That 1st line with the putt part is forced.

Vaskez 11-08-05 10:16 AM

was that a "lmao that's gay" or a "lmao that's dope"?

and yeah the putt was a bit forced, but it's HALF of the SETUP so who cares?

King Solo 11-08-05 10:28 AM

Personally, even though it is gay sometimes you have to force wordplay in text so that people get it, mainly because a lot of people don't look into a bar to find the wordplay.

EXAMPLE:

Ya got conflicted bars, they good, but they tire me each time I take a peek..
..cuz they are so damn fucking interesting, I can't help but fall asleep.

The only shit you could really see in that is....

Conflicted....saying the bars are good, but they tire me, and you generally get tired when you are bored, so its saying the bars are good, but also boring....hence the confliction....

and then you've got the "help but fall asleep" to go with the tired aspect of the punch......now is that all that you can see in there looking at it ???

Vaskez 11-08-05 10:31 AM

No I also get the into-resting/interesting wordplay

but it needs better wording to make it clear. That's what separates a good textcee from a great one - they can both think of concepts and worplay but the dope textcee paints mental pictures in the reader's mind so they can't HELP BUT get the punch and wordplay...knah'mean?

I was expecting a "tire" play. Bah humbug.

Yeah, it needs better wording, but it was off the top of my head so...meh,

but the fact that you saw the other wordplay means that it works...

however,
half these retarded cocksmiths wouldn't get shit unless I made it like this...

Ya got conflicted bars, they good, but they 'tire' me each time I take a peek..
..cuz they are so damn fucking 'into-resting', I can't help but 'fall asleep'.

the "tire" and "fall asleep" part you could get away with, but I guarantee that about 60% of this league wouldn't see the into-resting/interesting wordplay unless it was forced into their fucking face.

%%%% 11-08-05 10:39 AM

Interesting is not pronounced like inta-resting.

Vaskez 11-08-05 10:42 AM

Yeah it's pronounced intresting, but because of the way he worded it: it's so interesting I can't help but fall asleep, he put the emphasis on that so I got it. So it wasn't that badly worded actually. But yeah it's a bit forced, this is what's known as text-only wordplay cos it wouldn't work in audio...but sometime you can get away with it in text

Vaskez 11-08-05 10:43 AM

and pressence you didn't answer my question above ;)

Vaskez 11-08-05 10:44 AM

an example of text only wordplay which I used which I thought was pretty good :D :

I'm back n evening scores, while this ho struggles with simple metaphors
Ya writing style? No one'll digit...........after I break all ten of yours

you'd let me get away with that in text even though dig it and digit don't sound the same...wouldn't you? :D

Fuck a pronunciation, it was close enough.
And if you are that uppity that you look at exact and precise 100% perfect pronunciation then you are fucking gay.

but my "pressence of mind" / "gift wrapped your head" wordplay was mad hot :)
