The life of Sun Tzu was written by a man who never actually saw Sun Tzu. Neither the writer of 5 rings. But he'll still try to teach us that neither of them knew anything that they were talking about, because they were never in battle.

Roflz. Can you do a cart wheel?

I wanted to bring up this old thread to state that Cali is a fuckng idiot.

The book of 5 rings was written by a man who's never seen actual combat?

Miyamoto Musashi was Japan's GREATEST swordfighter to have ever lived. He was in over hundreds of duels with various weapons and never lost once. Anyone he faced, he outskilled and killed. No man could stand before him, only tremble.

You don't know wtf you're saying.

And to Tha Q, he wasn't a samurai either. Samurai's serve a master and Miyamoto had no master. He was a Ronin, not a samurai.

JTR 12-04-09 05:42 AM

Oh and he was in Wars too. But he never served the people responsible for these wars, he served himself in these Wars. He was like a mercanary for hire, he didn't care about polotics, he just wanted to discover himself through combat.

Errr...Semantics...because the definition of a Ronin is a samurai who had renounced his clan or who had been discharged or ostracized and had become a wanderer without a lord; an outcast; an outlaw.

In any case...the book is awesome...classic...

Should also check out this modern one written by the US Marines called "War Fighting"...

That book is like poetry man...

"The key is to be ruthlessly opportunistic..." ..."A good plan executed with violence NOW is better than a perfect plan executed a week later"

I would agree, except there's one thing we disagree on.

The fact that you can critically fucking think. Maybe you should re-read and re-apply. Lol @ all the bullshit you just overloaded at nothing.

Here, let me break it down for you, budd-o.

"No contest can ever reveal truth, only real combat. Thus, the path that leads to truth is littered with the bodies of the ignorant."

The contest is to reveal the truth of WHO IS BETTER. Contest - Tournament - Battle, etc. So by saying no contest can reveal who is better, it's saying that essentially, the littered bodies of the ignorant were trying to find out who was better by fighting to the death, lost, and though still might have been better, lost their fucking lives. 'Cuz they ignorant.

Basically, all it says is that there are good and bad things to fight to the death for, but being better than another person can only be decided momentarily, and whether you win or lose just counts for that one time, but to lose is losing the chance to ever see if you'll be better- again.

I won't ask if you understand it anymore. Just keep reading my description, you just really failed to understand it here.

And as for the rest of you, don't break down a quote until you're sure you know what it means.

And you are now officially "The Man!"...lol

It is in the context of NOT having an option at all...

THat quote is basically saying take advantage of an opportunity when it comes...because you can't just sit back thinking "I'll just wait for a better one" when you don't know if one will come....

That's not to say settle or compromise...but, again, a GOOD option executed well and with boldness is better than inactively waiting for a PERFECT one that MAY, or may not, come.
