Its more probable based on your limited, mortal, primitive, human understanding of the world.

That doesnt make it more probable at all.

Ahh man..

If you wernt just trying to argue youd realise that throughout this thread youve been trying to say that the world is definatly pointless.

And now your attacking me for making decisions based on probability.

Get a grip dude..

Even though you didnt ask, the reason I believe its more probable is for the simple fact that I dont believe the god of this universe is the ultimate god of everything in existance. I believe logically there must be something beyond this universe. Which there is based on currant discoveries in the field of quantum physics about the 'string theory'.

And if god isnt the ultimate god, then the existance of everything in this universe probably had an innitial reason for existing much like this universe could very literally just be an organism that is growing and spreading over time.

That is more probable than everything in existance only being in THIS universe and it all just popping out of nowhere.

Terumoto 09-25-06 08:27 PM

I wasnt attacking you.

I find it interesting that your beliefs are probable, and anybody elses are just based on their primitive, mortal understanding of existence. You fail to apply your own beliefs to your own beliefs.

But yeah, that could all be true or whatever, doesnt bother me. However, it still doesnt give existence a meaning. I mean, why do things exist? Its pointless, it would be no better or worse if nothing existed at all.

Well where is your evidence to back up the universe being pointless?

Cocaine 09-25-06 08:33 PM

shit i'd be immortal... it could get boring.. but living forever.. the possibilities really are endless.. like mad dog said.. you would have forever... to do anything..

Terumoto 09-25-06 08:34 PM

Just think about it for a second.

Its like humans going, "fuck oath. Lets build an aeroplane made of milk crates that doesnt actually work and is 800 times bigger than a 747."

Theres no need for there to be a universe.

I was unaware you knew for a fact nothing depends on the existance of this universe..

How would you know?

Compose 09-25-06 08:38 PM

i agree with 9th, i would have fun being immortal for MAD long but if i get sent to prison for life or somethin i wouldnt wanna live =/

but then again ill shoot at the cops and then theyll try to kill me and theyll see that i cant die, so maybe they wont send me to prison and be like wtf hes some miracle guy etc.

I meant universe as in everything. Even something depending on this "universe."

What is the point of it all? There is none..

Cocaine 09-25-06 08:48 PM

just think.. if u got sent to prison for LIFE.. you know your gonna live for all eternity.. that prison will be destroyed.. all people running will have died.. you will be out of prison eventually.. then you can live on in your immortal dopeness

You cant conclude the universe is pointless because a point is beyond your rational.

Thats a bit backwards..

You havnt shown any proper evidence to back your views either...

I dont think youve thought this out properly just yet...

Terumoto 09-25-06 09:15 PM

Just think about it. If you can't see it, then we should just stop this then.

Lmao thats the problem..

I DO see exactly what your saying..

But my view is that existance itself had no beginning.

And if it did, then it is far beyond our rational to understand such an occurance.

But you definatly cant say its pointless. And thats where your going wrong...

Crazy Hades 09-25-06 09:19 PM

Immortality, huh? Yeah, it'd be fun, after the Earth explodes or you scorch in a supernova, unable to dry, drifting through space in the freezing cold vacuum unable to breathe or freeze or die.

That'd be nice.

Seeing as that isnt going to happen for a good, 5 billion years..

Theres a lot of time to prepare. man. Our sun isnt going to supernova either...

Itll just turn to a red giant.

It doesnt matter if existence had a beginning or not. It doesnt even matter that existence may be all that there is and non-existence couldnt possibly exist. Existence is still pointless.

Crazy Hades 09-25-06 09:32 PM

Nostradamus...why do humans continue to reproduce? Why is it a necessity for us to continue to live? We could lay down and die anytime, and it wouldn't matter and wouldn't change a thing, really, except allow the world to return to how it was. What if everyone become a Buddhist and thus decided all ambition will only lead to suffering? Then there would be no reproduction, and it'd be pointless, and there is really no point to continue the reproduction besides for the species to continue its pointless life of procreation. We're just following a constant cycle that we believe has a point when we're only following the primitive requirement of evolution for an organism to want to survive and spread its seed. But if we were to all become Buddhists and not continue to spread this seed, we would die. Would it matter? Would it make a difference in the universe?

You really do have some crazy stints of naievity at times dude...

I'm surprised.

This is like that time you tried to say when because a cause for something was too small to be noticed by humans it MUST be non-existant and random.

Its foolish man.. And if I looked at the same situation from your perspective, I would say the point of existance itself is to exist because if existance didnt exist then nothing would be at all which is an unstable paradox that was fixed by the sheer force of wtf...theres nothing here, something must be.

Even though I dont believe there was a beginning and you can only rationally comphrehend a localised purpose.

Realise that man.

Crazy Hades 09-25-06 09:39 PM

Why should existence continue to exist, if only for the sake of existing? Why should it exist just to exist?

Humans reproduce because its in our genetic makeup..

Since our earliest form at the dawn of the anthropic period...

If you want the point of that, then whats the point of life? If not to continue its existance.

Whats the point of existance? Thats what me and OMB are arguing about now.

You answered your own question..

'For the sake of existing'

Crazy Hades 09-25-06 09:46 PM

The original topic is about human and why you would continue to be immortal.

To continue for the sake of existing isn't a very good reason. It's like a mother being correct because she says she is. If the human existence if only to exist, you can easily stop thinking that it's necessary to exist and take all point out of existence, like OMB has done. It's in our genetic make up, but we can override it and refuse to continue procreation.

So existence relies upon itself to answer itself. It's kind of like the Bible, how the only way to answer how it is right is to quote the object in question.

When you're faced with a paradox, all you can do is pick a side and realize neither is wrong.

Thank you. The only reason anything exists is to exist. Anything that's point is itself, is pointless.

Yeah.

What are you even arguing? That existence does have a point, but we don't understand it?

I'm saying that just because you cant decypher the ultimate point to existance itself.. You cant conclude that it is pointless.

But back to immortality....

Why are you so scared of not dying?

Terumoto 09-26-06 02:30 AM

Im not scared of it, I guess it would just be a bit of a drag. I'd get over it though.

What if in a million billion years the world reverts back to a volcanic mass of rock. And you're there like ffs, for a hundred million billion years waiting for it to turn into solid ground again. It'd just be a bit inconvenient.

you're purely basing that on stuff you CURRENTLY know

i admire ya sarcasmness but yeah you 'd have an eternity to work out how to build a plane and considering we were flying around in a few hundred thousand years since we were bashing shit wit rocks and calling them tools...it'd only be a matter of time...and trust it's not impossible to rule out either...

In a million billion years?

You probably would have left the earth by then..

Thats the beautiful thing about immortality..

Just use the currant civilisation, find out a suitable planet and fuck off to it in a large ship with a group of people and start reproducing untill you make it to the new world......

What happens on earth in a million billion years is inconsiquential..

EXACTLY...even if you were on ya own you'd still have infinite time to develop an understanding for most, if not all things...who's to say in a million billion years mortal humans (if still around) already would have developed science to a point where we could inhabit other planet

Terumoto 09-26-06 04:45 AM

What would you do?

You wouldnt work, who cares about work if you're immortal?

Maybe you would work, since you have such a shitload of experience you could make so much money, but what would you do with the money once this civilization becomes extinct? All your years of work = useless.

Would you learn? You could study a vast array of things and learn more than anyone else. But what good would that do you? Its not like medical advancement would save you from anything, or technological advancement would make any difference in the long run.

Where would you go? So you'd just shoot off around different planets for all eternity. If you got stuck on a planet, maybe in a million years you'd be able to develop something to get you off there, but then where the hell would you go? Wouldnt you just be doing the same thing over again?

Who would you be with? Sure, you could have temporary friends, but while you stay the same they constantly are changing and dealing with living life as a mortal, getting old, wanting to be young again, retiring, dying... Nobody could relate to your situation.

In the end, you are extending something that is pointless and making it last forever, which makes it even more pointless.

My best bet is you would end up slaving away at medical scientific advancement. Desperately trying to find a cure. A cure for immortality, which of course you would never find.

Sorry man.. But thats a big load of bullshit..

The negative side to endless life your talking about only exists in your mind because you have mortal emotions.. You dont want to outlive everything else, you feel it would be a bad thing to scoot from planet to planet starting civilisations on each as you go.. Why would you work either?

Whenever you start a civilisation, you would be god.

Technological advancement would improve your lifestyle vastly aswell.

Nothing youve said is really all that negative man... Your just looking at it from a primative mindframe...

Hate chew 09-26-06 05:07 AM

I would.

but Im insain so yeh.

Terumoto 09-26-06 05:14 AM

And how would you start civilization if there was nobody but you? Just wait billions of years until the planet you're on or some other planet became suitable for life, then wait another billion years for it to develop, hoping that it would develop in exactly the right way so that it is slightly intelligent and capable of concious thought?

Man... Thinking of immortality as a good thing is just your conditioning. This culture wants all good all the time. The concept of immortality itself is a product of this. Its not even possible at all, no way, ever. Immortality is a weak spirit wanting to cling to life, not realizing that clinging to life is like an illusory hand grasping at smoke. The hand being the Self, the smoke being anything the Self wants to cling to.

How do you know human beings wernt brought here to earth?

Didnt you realise that almost every other animal species on this planet has found a way to exist in a perfect equilibrium.............And humans just spread, conquor, advance and reproduce destroying everything in our path..

We dont REALLY fit in here...

As for that second paragraph... All I'm gonna bother saying is, your being real misguided... Theres nothing weak about staying in this realm for all eternity... And you take the good with the bad if you chose this life.
