I would have to disagree. People strive long and hard to find a good name.
A name is a representation of a person, so why would you want to represent yourself with something that isn't important?
I know personally if I see a name that isn't appealing, I most likely won't bother to check out what they have to say.

"Chingy"...yeah, that makes me want to go and buy his CD.

how are all of you gonna post verses on a site, then talk shit about textcees? I'm not a textcee - I'm an emcee that posts text on RB, that's all. This is just recreation, I make real music not just a bad net reputation...

It's always good to keep writing, keep your skillz sharp, and to get criticism.

fgee 02-04-04 02:40 PM

thats it ^

Well, when you ride Bruklors, Axe's, Feebles, Cprogs and a few others dick all day long, I call you a cock jockey. If someone else would say the shit they do, you would most likely disagree with it. But instead, you see a their name, and agree instantly.

If you actually make music, then I wouldn't categorize you as a textcee. I am more aiming at the people that simply write text, and consider themselves a dope emcee or rapper.

^^ Yep They Just Do Text Cause They Know Their Audio Sucks And They Only Would Be Workin On Trash If They Did....I Do Audio...Text Is For Fun But I Suck At It

That's not me at alll. I don't even rap, I don't look like the type to rap, a few people know I do. But I don't consider myself an emcee, I don't even plan on doing audio. Audio takes skill, but if you sound commercial, then you can sell anything. Even if the lines suck, you can have songs that are just 'club bangers' or something you listen to while you drive. If I actually planned on rapping, I would have gotten the audio equipment by now. Text as you call it, is more like a hobby I have to kill some time. Sure audio takes skill, as in getting on beat, flowing, sounding good, quality, writing skills to a point. But pure writing takes much more skill than audio, there are few audio heads that are decent at text. I know Salvation is pretty dope at text and audio, a few others as well. But just writing, making it sound witty, the wording, the fresh concepts, how hard each line hits, the flow, the set up, and everything else is a factor. And it's much harder to impress a veteran on a rap site than just any ordinary person. Which is why when I hear some kid at my school, saying how "this line is ill" or "this rapper is dope" I can laugh to myself, cause they have no idea what's good and what isn't. That's why commercial rap is so big n sells so much, period.

Alright Professor, writing a novel sized post really wasn't necessary, but point taken. ( I still feel audio is harder and requires more skill than text though.. )

Mr W.Rite 02-04-04 03:36 PM

i agree with aisle...texting is just a hobby..i dont take it seriously
its just something to do on the internet...but it has giving me a whole new outlook on writing, wether for a rap song, rb, or whatever i have a whole new respect for people
who do it for a living cus its a lot harder than i thought..

but back to the original topic..
i dont really think the site has lost its talent pool...
its just that its so many newbs...its getting out of control
if you stay out of the front lines and focus on elite and LLL
you'll see the talent is still here..its just new talent with a few of the older heads
hangin in there...
i always enjoy the battle in LLL...especially lately
i have seen some really good verses recently...
people like
feeble minded
walter wall
Av...
Evolve (even though he is sitting out for a while)
lethargic
koalatee
cam
aisle 6, ooopps i mean aisle phive...<----*failed attempt at humor*
among others of course
these guy are pretty consistent text battlers...
and i dont think
textin is a waste of time if you really enjoy
it just all about personal preference i guess

$pitacular 02-04-04 03:36 PM

^^Audio def takes much more talent as far as when you are in the industry... you have to have a tight flow, well written lyrics, deliver them right with an original tone and you have to market yourself in both your lyrics and in general... so text is a breeze when you compare it to that. If that weren't true, then there would be 90 thousand successful rappers and only a handful of textcees... lol
