To me, it's a difference of agendas. Mainstream heads seem to be sooooo into making money and becoming famous that they totally forget what hip-hop is about. Then UG heads seem to be trying so hard to stay "true" hip-hop and keeping it real that they don't remember what really makes a good song anymore.

Those are both the extremes. If you notice, any legendary emcee is in the middle. Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, and so many more. The 50 Cents, Chingys and Nellys will never be legends just as the Diabolics, the MF Dooms and the Sage Francis' never will be either. You gotta be influenced by both, equally, to truly know where to go with your music.
