Hip Hop Is Dying?

At the end of the ja rule video reign it says ''Hip Hop Is Dying, Reach For Peace'' do ya agree with his statement, I sure dont

Johnny 6-feet 12-20-03 02:42 PM

**flips to mtv and watches a rapper fall over with blood puring from his mouth**

ja rule may have a point, especially considering hes got a fair amount of the blame.

Cuthroat 12-20-03 02:47 PM

well hip hop isn't dying but some rappers are. Beef like Nas and Jay-z is good because it's not personal it's just for competing. Beef like 50 and Ja is out of control we don't need anybody dying again because idiots like those who killed Big and Pac will do tha same thing.

MuhThugga 12-20-03 02:56 PM

Ja Rule is to blame.....fucking gangsta wannabes are to blame....
gangsta rap glorification in general is to blame.....

HIP-HOP IS NOT A SYNONYM FOR GANGSTA

I don't understand why people can't get that thru their fucking heads.

Remixed Illusion 12-20-03 03:10 PM

Firstly i dont think is just a black thing. I think this whole racial barrier is what is really killing hip hop. So what people that aren't black wanna get into hip hop. That is probably better for the music. If more people, with different ethnical backgrounds, start makin muisc, in this case hip hop, all the better more variety.

self 12-20-03 07:20 PM

It already died.

I jumped on its grave with a 40 pound platinum chain.

over and done

C-Section 12-20-03 08:00 PM

no hip hop isnt dieing. actually i see it slowly taking a turn in the right direction. its about time someone comes up and changes the game again. every few year the game gets wack then someone come up to save it, i see it happening again.

Swoop 12-20-03 08:09 PM

hip hop's dead

wogzta 12-20-03 08:53 PM

Havent you guys listened to "We're Famous"?

"Every year someone says hip-hop's over; fuck you, hip-hop just started"

Hip-hop as you know it might be dying; but it will come in a new form, just like old-skool went to gangsta, which went to new-skool...

And since I listen to all types of hip-hop besides fake gangstas like Ja rule and nelly, i dont really care if current hip-hop is replaced by something new... it's called progressing

HaycH 12-20-03 09:13 PM

You dont care cause you didnt grow up into it. Thats why you new comers still dont realize.

Dimez 12-20-03 09:56 PM

Dont agree....

LoL what do they mean Invasion of rockers or sumthin

LMAO @ Bruklor

self 12-20-03 11:44 PM

I stabbed hip hop with a rusty pair of gangster scissors. Wut Wut!!!!

shut your mouth, i been listening to rap my whole life, and i still say its not dying, as long as we are doing it, it will live on. right now their is some wack shit on the radio, but its selling more then ever,

and right now, its turning in the right direction.
look at some of the people finally making it to MTV and BET.
Talib, Pitch Black, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock(<-booo) K-os, Kanye West, Blackalicious, Mos Def, Jean Grae (she had a interview about her on MTV) Little Brother (they where on MTV you hear it first) i seen Brother Ali beat boxing while Slug freestyled during the end credits of a show but i dont know what that show was. its slowly going back to where it should be.

their is still alot of DJs,

break dancing isnt as big

graff is world wide. you see it everywhere its far from dead and the graff artists now days are more complex then they were back in the day. only problem is its harder to do today then it was back then.

hip hop lives as long as we keep it alive, but you guys bitching about it, and doing nothing to change it are just as bad as the guys fucking it up. instead of bitching why dont you work your ass off and change the game.

HaycH 12-21-03 12:59 AM

"shut your mouth, i been listening to rap my whole life, and i still say its not dying"

My post was directed to wogsta and i never said hip hop was dying nacho boy. Dont you understand english or are you just used to posting one of your un funny useless shit that you cant even post normal things no more.

Shut my mouth? you say its not dying so its not dying. Who the fuck are to say that latino boy and what the fuck do you REALLY know about the game.

Game recognize Game. And at the moment i aint feeling you.
I wont argue with you no more cause you aint even on my level and youll never see where im coming from.

Now get back to posting the garbage you usally do.. i think you do that best..

Just because you grew on the old stuff HaycH, and it's changing, doesn't mean it's dying. I grew up on gangsta rap, but I didn't start whining when nu-skool took over. Why? Cos I actually got bored of listening to the same thing. It's musical progress - just cos it comes in a different form to what you grew up on, doesn't mean it's dying. It's happened in every form of music - look at rock, it's changed billions of times. Yet it's still not dead, it's popular.

And C-Section has some very valid points. Graffiti is worldwide, breakdancing still goes on (although not as much), and hip-hop is getting more into the mainstream - of course we've had some crap artists, but when people like Kweli and Slug are getting air time, that's a good sign. And there are still DJ's.

There's a big difference in "change" and "death".

And btw, Latino's had a big role in hip-hop culture. They are the most influential race besides african americans. And what does your race have anything to do with your understanding of music? Dumb racists.

lmao only if ja rule was our last hope but

seeing how all of us here still are the essence of hiphop thats a big NO

Amarant 12-21-03 10:52 AM

hiphop aint dying its jus exploding world wide, only a few months ago the whole of the american billboard top ten was full of rap artists. hiphop is jus getting bigger, but if we carry on with gunz and stuff it jus gets boring and replayed, its wen rappers write about current event, thier life and shit that we can truly acknowledge wat hip hop is, but to say it is dying is wrong.

neway it come from Ja Rule-how much does that say.

D-Dizzle 12-21-03 12:04 PM

Hip-hop as a artform ain;t dying....

but Hip-hop being all one culture is......

IT's alot o different flavors out there .. gangsta, backpack, battling, street, it a whole lot of division in hip-hop now...

Its not like back in the day where the same person whould like NWA and then Tribe called Quest, Now it's like, "The kind of hip-hop I listen to is good and everything eles is garbage". People take sides instead of understanding everything....THen you have the whole racial devide thing that has come into play with the 'white boy backpack' crowd and how most blacks ain;t feeling that side. So hip-hop as a culture ain;t dying artisticly but is changing with all the policts involved nowadays

Also, The the way the media, and record companies treat this artform thats killing it. Like MTV picks certain types over the rest and brainwashes the public into thinking that it's dope, kinda the same with BET. That channel has no direction and is such a mess right now.... The same with radio, the big record companies have the finacial muscle to dominate the airwaves and have you hearing a song 40 times a day....

KoNcEpT 12-21-03 12:32 PM

Actually I Think It's
Getting Better.......

Brendan 01-05-04 12:20 AM

I don't think hip hop is dying... I think in general it's becoming more mainstream but it's certainly not dying.

I think rap, as in the technique of rapping instead of singing, is going to eventually branch off into a few different, defined genres. Right now we have gangsta rap, abstract, etc, and I think we'll get more categories like these in the future.

The Real Sizz 01-06-04 01:07 AM

I don't think rap is dying. i think it has expanded so much that it's become common place. if you listen to the radio and watch alot of videos you'll see that rap doesn't belong to Hip Hop heads any more. It belongs to everyone who excepts it, so anyone who can appeal the masses gets the airplay. Before when rap wasn't digested by everyone True Hip Hop fans control Raps output making rap music stay close to it's true form. Nuff said.

Zedd 01-06-04 12:24 PM

Hip Hop cant die cuz its us... Same way that classical music wont ever die.... THe thing is it will evolve

Gunman tha Great 01-06-04 12:26 PM

in the immortal words of Black Star "where were u the day hiphop died?Is it to early to morn is it to late to Rise?" Hiphop is dying a slow death, believe it. The bigger it gets, the more people get involved and make decisions for the emcee and they start to have more input to what gets on the CD then the actual artist does.
