ok, i went to turn my ps2 on today, and it wont turn on... no power

and yes i checked all the damn cords, and the switch in the back, but nothin... anyone know what might be wrong with it?

Hmm but no seriously i had the same problem..took it apart..well not totally & cleaned it with some cloth..(suitable to resist static electricity)

And I had it looked at and the queers told me the fan in the back was broken
and so my Ps2 was overheating and thats what fucked it up.... you should check that

the power in the wall wasnt on...cus the switch was down...

^Ah, that's how the light in my living room is, attached to the light switch. (It's a light that you plug into an electrical outlet)

Back to the PS2... you said that you checked the cords, does that mean you made sure they were plugged into the system? Because maybe the electrical cord is dead. The electrical outlet might also be dead. Try plugging something into the outlet to make sure it's still working.

Mental, did you happen to notice any smells ( such as fired components) in the power supply section. Located right around the same area the cord goes into the PS2?

Did you noticed anything else plugged into the same outlet or breaker that had been reset or is no longer functional? ie... an alarm clock that has been reset, or vcr/dvd player that had to be reprogrammed?

If any of things oocured, it would seem to me that your area experienced a power surge in the middle of the night and or the electric company switched from one generator to the next. This sometimes introduces power surges or spikes on your 120v/60hz power lines. It's a very common condition, one known to make electronic repair shops tons of money. The fuse in the PS2 power section is a very sensitive type (non slow blow), inorder to protect your unit from these voltage/fire hazards. If you are out of the warranty period, then I suggest you take a look at this fuse. You can get the shcematics for your playstation online. Same place where you would get the information on how to chip the PS2. It's not very difficult at all, and its easy to tell a bad fuse. I am almost certain this is your problem based on the description of the anomoly. Let me know if you need any more technical assistance.

Actually, I had an Xbox before the PS2... and I couldn't stand it and the games for the system. So I sold it and bought a PS2.

maybe the ps2 has a short inside its power supply.....im in electronics class an i fixed my ps2 in there the teacher took me through the whole process. Its difficult but its not worth paying 50 dollars for a piece of supplys that are only 1 dollar all togetheer and u can learn how to put it togehter....u know...maybe u have a short...if not...then i dont know wtf is wrong...just my 2$ cents

When my PS2 broke, I took it to my local repair shop and they fixed it no problem. (My tray was just broke and jammed though.. ) I'd listen to Opey, he knows his geeky shit.

i agree..just do whatever to get it fixed...if you got money to spend..then thats the way....but if you dont want to spend 50 dollars..try everysolution first..then try to get it fixed. i dont know if its still 50 dollars maybe cheaper now or higher

xbox is just gay...its to big......for once.....and u have to pay for the internet...u have to buy all this bullshit for it...and....its just weird looking....A BIG FUCKING X right in ur face..and u have to buy the dvd shit to watch dvds when u can just watch dvds already on the ps2....anyways the ps3 will own.

hmm... its funny how all the ps2 games are startin to come out on xbox now. i wonder why? maybe cause the xbox controller is easier to use.... or the graphics processing is better... or because it loads faster... or maybe because it doesnt burn up and refuse to turn on.

btw xbox is worth the money just for halo alone

NOW they're starting to come out on the Xbox. When I had it, the games were mostly computer games. Like what's his face said before me, the DVD option was one reason, even though I hardly use it for that. And I actually think the PS2 controller is easier to use. Xbox's controller is big and bulky.

^^^they kinda have that in the first one. but u have to play it on legendary. when i was on house arrest i beat the game on legendary. the guys snitch u out and dodge ur grenades n all types of shit.

but anyway... this is wut i would do if it cant be fixed (ive done this before and works perfectly). go buy a new one. put the old one in the new box and take it back with the reciept. u can either say its broken or u can be slick like me and carefully remove the seals and put them back so they never know the box was opened

xbox plays DVDs. u can also switch out the hard drive and do millions of hacks. ucan listen to mp3s and watch video clips and look at pics with it. u can hook it up to ur network and listen to music thats stored on ur pc. u can also get a bigger hard drive and store whole games on the xbox when u rent them so u never have to buy games.

actually i used a water spray bottle, blow dryer, and a butter knife... fuck with that! lol

I'm not computer savvy, so I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to do this. I also have 0 songs on my computer, so that option wouldn't really be of much use. The rental of games to store them on the harddrive seems like a dope option however.

my brother did that once for a Ps1...and it actually worked...just make sure the bar codes are not messed up or anything..make sure the pacakging is perfect...it will be all good to....just make a excuse saying u were supposed to by the xbox not the ps2..and they say u saw it cheaper somewhere else anyhow. it always works

i have both xbox and ps2... i LOVE my ps2... but i agree... xbox is better... it comes WITH the hard drive, you can put your own songs onto the game, and if you get a mod chip, you wont ever have to buy the games, you can store them on your xbox... but i still am a ps2 lover... they should combine forces... the xbox with the ps2 controller, that would be dope
