Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park an Emcee?

I listen to a lot of Alternative but my love is Hip Hop. My favorite band has to be Linkin Park and was wondering if you all know who he is an what you thought of Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park as an Emcee? Personally I think he's Ill. Here's an example of what he can do:

High Voltage

Just do something to tell you who I am, ya know?

[Chorus]
It's high voltage, you can't shake the shock
Because nobody wants it to stop, check it out
It's high voltage, you can't shake the shock
Because nobody wants it to stop, check it out
It's high voltage, you can't shake the shock
Because nobody wants it to stop, check it out
It's high voltage, you can't shake the shock
Because nobody wants it to stop, check it out

I've been digging into crates ever since I was living in space
Before the rat race, before monkeys had human traits
Mastered numerology and big bang theology
Performed lobotomies with telekinetic psychology
Invented the mic so I could start blessing it
And chin checkin' kids to make my point like an impressionist
Many men have tried to shake us
But I twist mic cords to double helixes and show them what I'm made of
I buckle knees like leg braces
Cast the spell of instrumental-ness and all of the emcees that hate us
So try on, leave you without a shoulder to cry on
From now to infinity let icons be bygones
I fire bomb, ghostly notes haunt this
I've tried threats but moved on to a promise
I stomp shit with or without an accomplice
(Mixed media!)
The stamp of approval that's on this

[Repeat Chorus]

(Akira) Put a kink in the backbones of clones with microphones
And never satisfy my rhyme jones
Spraying bright day over what you might say
Blood type Krylon
Technicolor type A
On highways write with road rage on pages of wind
In cages of tin that bounce all around
In surround sound devouring the scene
Subliminal gangrene paintings overall the same things
Sing song karaoke copy madness
Break bones verbally with sticks and stone tactics
Fourth dimension, combat convention
Write rhymes at ease while the tracks stand at attention (Attention)
Meant to put you away with the pencil
Pistol, official, 16 line rhyme missile
While you risk your all, I pick out all your flaws
Spin, raw raw blah blah
You can say you saw

[Repeat Chorus]

Gunman tha Great 01-22-04 05:00 PM

peep the X-ecutioners (fuck tha spelling) joint he spit illness, dude is nice

ELEETE 01-22-04 05:02 PM

Yea i got that X-ecutioners joint i agree!!!

...Àû†øpšÿ... 01-22-04 05:04 PM

He's Nice................

The End 01-22-04 05:29 PM

Linkin Park is dope. It's a known fact.

Mr.Christensen 01-22-04 05:33 PM

I think he can be a good MC, just would he be able to break out of the LP mold if he goes solo. His addition to the group makes them what they are, but can he keep the momentum if he goes solo?

murdoc 01-22-04 06:45 PM

defonatly a dope rapper but i think realist is right

self 01-22-04 06:53 PM

I can't stand to listen to any of their stuff anymore. He's stuck up. He listens to his own music because there's nothing else good out there...how stupid can you be?

INsanity 01-22-04 07:11 PM

he's a pretty dope MC still, he's got flow cant deny him of that, and he's also multi talented, plays the keys and guitar. But i think it'd be almost the same situation as Jin, tuff battler, or in Shinodas case sick songwriter with a group, but solo, not sure if he'd be able to do it. but overall mans dem has skills

i know this thread is bout Mike Shinoda but on the topic of Rap/rock bands, what do you guys think of Zack De La Rocha. Some might not know of him but he was the front man for Rage Against The Machine, a group which pioneered almost the rap/rock sound. He's workin on a solo album with the neptunes, roots, dj shadow and others. What do you think bout his MC-ing ability and how do u think his solo album will turn out?

Avenge 01-22-04 07:24 PM

hes OK....some of his verses are nice others blow....kinda a trendy sound

wordplay 01-22-04 07:24 PM

I like mike shinoda's lyrics..but I cant stand his delivery...it seems as if he has no energy......

and on the zach question....I didn't know he was an emcee..of course I've only what was on the radio....I do like his style though...I wonder if he'll go political..like he did with rage?....

Intoxicated 01-22-04 11:46 PM

Lincoln Park is pretty dope... the dude is an emcee definetly... the different beats dont change that ya know...

as for the guy from Rage, he's aight, never heard anything that would make me think he's ill tho...

Mad Spasm 01-22-04 11:53 PM

Yeah hes pretty good but linkin park has turned pretty gay over the years

Sir Q. Layshun 01-22-04 11:58 PM

Word To Bruk This Guy Is Pretty Conceided, He Thinks No One Is Better Than Him Out There, I Know For A Fact That One Of The Vets On Here Could Rip Him For Sure.

But Other Than That Shit He Is Pretty Nice

Emotion 01-23-04 02:54 AM

very nice lyrics

docta_k 01-23-04 06:18 AM

yeah definately mike can rap....ill as well. i dont like linkin park....too industrialised now...hybrid theory was good but everything after that sucks apart from faint on meteora (their 2nd album) his track with x-ecutioners was nice

zack de la rocha definately he shud make an impact.....i love RATM...everyone got talent.....and zack's been doin stuff wit krs1 and the last emperor.....that's gotta say something bout him....he's also doing his solo album with trent reznor (the lead singer of nine inch nails)...i cant wait for zack's album to drop.......hope he goes political as well

Kwizikal 01-23-04 06:45 AM

he is an mc

wogzta 01-23-04 07:03 AM

If he's not an MC, wtf is he then?

If he raps, he's an MC. Simple. doesnt matter what the beats, subject matter, or other talents he's got. I personally like Linkin Park alot, one of the best rock/rap out there... although I agree that meteora wasnt as good as Hybrid Theory...

ELEETE 01-23-04 10:25 AM

I agree.....Meteora wasnt as good as Hybrid Theory.....But i think Mike Shinoda can do big things in the Hip Hop game with the right people. Some may not agree but i know some will.....He has very good talent.....An I personally like the hip hop influence in other genres of music wouldnt you agree?

2hOt4tV 01-23-04 12:43 PM

hell yeah he a mC,dude is NICe,i like his ish, nice lyrics, nice style, thats all i got to say............................................... .....................

Induelz 01-23-04 12:49 PM

Dude Got Skillz

Dragon I 01-23-04 05:12 PM

he's a good mc indeed. i liked meteora though, but only mainly cos of songs like faint, and some other's i can't remember the names of. gotta love linkin park though. they're dj's good to.

Penskills 01-23-04 05:27 PM

Linkin Park's cool~~~

Playjahrizer 01-23-04 05:32 PM

i dont really like him..i guess hes ok for being in a 'rock-rap' band. his lyrics are average and his delivery sucks

Dragon I 01-23-04 05:57 PM

i gotts agree with comments about his delivery though, but then how energized are u gonna sound when doing a song called crawling? would sound out of place if he was all bouncy in his delivery.

wogzta 01-23-04 07:37 PM

Playjahrizer - i dont really like him..i guess hes ok for being in a 'rock-rap' band. his lyrics are average and his delivery sucks

you didnt see the lyrics posted on the first page of this thread did you? His lyrics were great in Hybrid Theory.. his delivery lags but his lyrics are great, you cant deny that.

and wtf is "for a rock/rap" band supposed to mean? Cmon man, does it really matter what company you keep? your lyrics and flow dont change just because your friends play a guitar

K.Largo 01-23-04 09:14 PM

in lyricist lounge i forgot which one.
Zack de la roca spits with KRS one. pretty nice. different but the fucker is unique

Da_Killa_Kid 01-23-04 09:24 PM

His lyrics are dope no lie. If he spit with more fire in his delivery he could be alot better than what he is now. I think he'd have a wider fan base if he went solo changed his style a bit, but kept his lyrics on the same level.

Straight Ace 01-23-04 09:40 PM

Good lyrics.
Bad personality.
Group holds him down?

Content 01-23-04 10:23 PM

Someone on here mentioned Zach De LA Roca from Rage Against
The Machine which is now the award winning group Audioslave.
And he is definately a sick emcee in this watered down world of hip-hop.
But Mike Shinoda could definately hold his own on a short album,
preferably eight songs skitless.
It would even be alright if all of the members from Linkin Park backed
him up like the Roots do for Black Thought.

Hopefully thats a soon to come thing for hip hop / rock / alernative music*

I agree wit just abut everything you said.......Playjahrizer, youve probably only heard LP's mainstream shit, you should try to go an listen to these songs: "High Voltage" , "High Voltage (Remix) (check 1st page of thread for lyrics) , Part of Me , Its Goin Down , and Step Up......You should also try out the REANIMATION Album which has alot of there song remixed to sound Hip Hop......If you dont think these lyrics are sick? Theyres something wrong:

Step Up
Verse 1
Yo
Watch as the room rocks
Mantally moon walk
Mixed media slang
Banging in your boom box
Verbal violence lyrical stylist
In a time when rock hip hop rhymes are childish
You can't tempt me with rhymes that are empty
Rapping to a beat doesn't make you an emcee
With your lack of skill and facility
You're killing me
And a DJ in the group just for credibility
I heard that some of you are getting help with your rhymes
You're not an emcee if someone else writes your lines
And rapping over rock doesn't make you a pioneer
Cause rock and hip hop have collaborated for years
But now they're getting randomly mixed and matched up
All after a fast buck and all the tracks suck
So how does it stack up - None of it's real
You want to be an emcee you've got to study the skill

Verse 2
So you pick up a pen and write yourself a new identity
But mentally you don't have the hip hop energy
With a tendency to make up stories
Sounding like the only hip hop you've heard is top 40 (top 40)
And your record company is completely missing it
All the kids are dissing it for not being legitimate
So in a battle you can't hack it
React with whack shit
And get smacked with verbal back flips
Get your ass kicked by fabulous battle catalysts
It's taken decades for emcees to establish this
You're new to hip hop and welcome if your serious
But not on the mic
Leave that to the experienced
