Respected Emcees

well this is not your top 5
this is not the most underrated
this not the most overrrated.

this is emcees you respect. as in how they represent themselves...

even if these emcees come out, with a wack track. You respect them as for what they brought forth, for the world of hip hop.

(ie: I respect Krs-one for being the truth).

run with it....

Sick ILL CeLL 01-22-04 08:26 PM

nas is my fav rapper but...
i respect 2pac fo stayin real and not sellin out...when he got money...

wogzta 01-22-04 09:14 PM

I respect Immortal Technique... even when the gay shops dont sell his music cos of controversy he just shoves more of it in their face... he speaks the truth, and doesnt give a shit what anyone thinks...

I respect Aesop Rock... being completely different but never changing to suit someone elses tastes....

And Jay-Z.... no matter how much money he got, he always stayed dope and consistent... any rapper that has his 3rd best album released 7 years after they get in the game deserves respect.. most rappers fall off after 2-3 years..

FormulaMC 01-22-04 09:50 PM

I respect Mos Def and Talib Kweli. . for staying true to themselves and consistenly dropping the concious hip hop that I like. . not the bling bling/rides/hoes that are brain washing society.

Jay-Z. . like Wogzsta said. . even though he's had some songs that I didn't like (Money,Cash,Hoes - Change Clothes). . he's also stayed true to himself. . and I consider the Black Album his 2nd best (Behind Reasonable Doubt) after 9 albums. . you know this man is still dope if his last is his 2nd best.

Rakim - Same reason as Jay and Blackstar. . he's not yet came commercial. . but he's stayed consistent with minimal spotlight. . (minus his Eric B days) and still maintains dopeness.

Brother Ali - Even though he hasn't made it big yet and most likely won't. . just for rapping and putting his name out, knowing many might now except him because of the way he looks. . that's enough to get my respect.

There's more. . but I can't think now. . Pz.

Straight Ace 01-22-04 09:57 PM

Yes KRS..as said.
& Rakim.
(ill post exactly why tommorow..4 AM here..)

Emotion 01-22-04 10:07 PM

Jay Z- He's one of the best or succesful in the game,

50- cent-asside from what evryone else saids hes still was dope, i mean lately he's been shit he's had some wack tracks but i respect him for his old mixtapes...lol

Aesop Rock- I respect him for bringing something new and innovative to hip hop you will never here another rapper like him

Slug-I respect him for the things he says in his rymes

Murs- Sam as slug

Avenge 01-22-04 11:04 PM

Mr. Lif....his views of the world are dope...and hes one of the sickest mcs EVER

Krs...Stuck with rap through and through, a real love for the game!

Jay Z....For all the reasons specified above,,,and for helping hip hop expand...

AND I MIGHT BE CALLED A "STAN"
But
I Respect
EMINEM, why? because em has seen so much hate, from the people who once loved him (underground) is it his fault that his records sale? that teenage girls find him attractive? no, he got sued by his own moms, publicly called a racist, hes dealt with all of it.....I RESPECT EMINEM!

Immortal Technique - he still just says what he wants to say minus what anyone else says about him being to controversial or anything, doesn't give a fcuk attitude about his critics...

Eminem - I've always respected him, he's the first white rapper to really make it big and has continued to grow despite all the critism surronding him, anyone else probably woulda folded a long time ago.

2pac - because even 7 years after his death, he can still intrigue and make people see the reality of his message, he neva did "sell-out" as some might put it.

Jay-z - don't like him all that much, but to put out as much shit as he has done over the last few years, you gotta be some guy to do it.

Tragedy Khadafi.

wogzta 01-23-04 07:51 AM

Canibus - Anyone that can work that much knowledge into a rhymthical pattern deserves respect.

Necro - for being underground and a complete violent, sick, twisted lunatic, and yet still somehow managing to get his CD on the shelves of my local commercial music store... albeit with a 18+ sticker.. lol

Rakim - considered the best, but never tries to go commercial to bring his name out... king of lyrics

Bizarre - for being the only rapper i have ever heard that is 1st in two categories

1. The weirdest.
2. The wackest.

D-Verb 01-23-04 08:11 AM

Necro - This cat has been droppin bad taste since as long as I can remember, every head knows necro whether they think he is nice or wack as fuck. He may not be the tightest on the mic, but he beats are rugged as all hell. He ships out everything himself and is the epitome of an entrapeneur IMO.

Immortal Technique - yeah, yeah....Just like everybody else in the thread. He drops knowlege regardless of what is generally accepted in the game. His shit never seems repetitive either, he comes with nice topics and flips it up nice.

Akrobatik - Brings it back to the old school, he doesn't flip crazy rhyme schemes or complex lyrics he jus keeps it real. No matter what the trends have been (esp. in Boston) he stays on his own tip.

FanTa ZeE 01-24-04 06:03 PM

Slug- for the real lyrics he puts out, something always Jaw Dropping
Run DMC for Pushing Hip HOp to where it is Now, no matter how good or bad it is, its still here.
Nas for selling out and then coming back against everybody's expectations back in 2001
Royce da 5'9 for being dope
Canibus for being dope too
Aesop Rock for being different..but yet still amazingly dope too

wogzta 01-24-04 07:52 PM

Bubba Sparxxx - for being the 2nd respected commercial white rapper, but not playing off Eminem's image... developed his own style

Mr. Lif - good political image, love his flow

Ras Kass - Soul On Ice is one of the best hip-hop albums ever...

GZA - awesome wordplay, classic album Liquid Swords

Accelerate 01-24-04 07:56 PM

Yes..Gza genius..
Mos Def and Talib Kweli should are also very well respected.
Also
Common Sense for being one of my main inspirations

FormulaMC 01-24-04 11:55 PM

Damn. . Forgot some people. .

Eminem - For being the first white rap artist to make it big and not let ignorant fucks on the internet get to him with their senseless bashing when he's making money and they're just talking through keyboards. . and i'm not a Stan either. . where the fuck did that shit come from ?

Bubba Sparxxx - Basically what Wogzta said. . building his own image. . having a pretty dope CD lyrically with Deliverance. . he impressed me.

Wu-Tang Clan - Every member. . for being so damn dope lyrically and not changing their style just to sell albums. . they stayed dope and sold albums through lyrics. . much props for that.

M.C. Shadow 13 01-27-04 12:41 AM

^ why the hell do people on this site pretend they know commercial rappers?

ARRGGGHHH

Gunman tha Great 01-27-04 10:52 AM

so they can justify them having heartbeats.

I respect

Rass Kass for not kissing nobody's ass, he could've easily just said "fuck it i'll have Dre produce every song and put Eminem on my first single" but he didn't

Royce the 5'9 for refusing to be Eminem's puppet like D12 and doing tha shit on his own

Jay-Z for the reasons already posted

Rakim for staying the god

Ghostface for refusing to downplay his creativity for mainstream success and for wearing that big ass bracelet

Bubba Sparxxx for reasons already stated

Master P just for being a dope ass hustler (lost half of that when he started biting off Cash Money)

Kweli and Mos Def-4 spitting knowledge

Canibus-for staying tha same and not changing to get attention, and not overhyping his beef wit Eminem for mainstream attention (he could've easily sent a mixtape to MTV and gotten on the news)

and ya'll might laugh but Ja Rule-he stood up and actually came out when everybody was shitting on em (including me) and dropped an album (even though it sucked) took some balls 2 do that. And to keep rhyming while getting shit thrown at him at the Source awards.
