Many people belive that the end of the world is soon and wit good reason....

1.For example super-volcanoes, the most destructive force on this planet. An eruption would destroy a vast area of land and trigger a nuclear winter. The whole of Yellowstone is a massive super volcano - and it is 40,000 years late in its cycle of eruptions. Scientists have been noticing some strange tectonic activity in the park…

2.Mega-tsunamis are almost as terrifying. The sizes of these waves are incredible - moving at supersonic speeds and thousands of feet high they would devastate all land within 20km of a coast they strike. Scientists predict that sooner or later an eruption will cause an island in the Canaries to collapse, sending 500,000 billion tonnes of rock into the ocean. Every coastline in the North Atlantic would be hit, with cities like Boston, Miami and New York facing destruction.

3.There is also the threat from bacteria and viruses. Bacteria are becoming immune to our antibiotics at a much faster rate than we are discovering new ones. Eventually we will have nothing left to fight them with.

This many warheads could destroy the world many times over. And with the way we're going war is likely.

The Mayans had the most advanced way of telling time and the most accurate calendar ever, even more accurate then the one we have today, and that was like 2 thousand years ago.They predicted the egxact day their empire would fall and they would all die and also predicted that the world is basicly in big trouble around 2012, which is not far off.

The Bible prophesises the end of the world in the Battle of Armageddon. Many scriptures in the Bible describe this event, and give clues to how and when it may happen. Several of them seem to point to a date of 2007 for the return of the Antichrist and the beginning of the Battle. They depict in detail how the Battle will be fought - it starts with an alliance of Arab nations invading Israel

All those people who say they see future and are phsychic or whatever(which i dont really belive) say the same thing about 2006 and 2012.So even tho i dont think they can see future I find it strange how they all came up wit the same date.

the guy who supposedly traveled from the future predicts the same date 2012 to be similar to when the red sea drowned the egyptians in the bible to save the jews from invasion. what if so much hate towards israel sparks a domino effect and shit just gets out of hand. I think this could be true and with all the nuclear and chemical weaponry being made now a days, ...

I actually think this is a valid and interesting thread.

Thing is, I don't really ever give that much thought to the end of time any more. Biblically speaking, nobody can predict it. It says so in the bible. In fact, if you read the bible it says that whenever somebody predicts the end of time, that is NOT when it is going to happen. But that's assuming the bible is true.

The Mayan calender is another interesting thing as I read that while I'm unclear on the year, 2012 sounds about right... it basicly stops. That's it. No more calender. Almost as if they didn't need to have it go on any further because they knew that would be the end of time as we know it.

That's just my two cents at least.

Umm its quite possible that they all used a fairly similiar and incorrect method for instance to EXTREMELY dumb it down, slightly out of context but Mayans.... 20+12=2012 some other guys, follow simple "logic" and reason 20+12= 2012 and so on and so on, just because a few people got a similiar answer doesnt mean they are right, on a test if a teacher says read the instructions before u write anything and 90% of the class writes first are they right?> so umm stfu? 1luv.

the calender europe was using since roman times lost 1 day every 148 years, since ceasers time. so it's slightly off. but then they changed it to the gregorian calender, the one we use today. it's more accurate cos we lose one day every 3300 years. (not sure what, cos i can't remeber exactly). eithere way that's out us off by a bit. as for the mayan calender, it uses three counting methods simultaneosly, counts some numbers in base 18 and some in base 20. some crazy complicated stuff. found this link about it...

If we predicted it, people would go to confession and try to get to heaven, but are they truly sorry? NOOOO. Thats why its probably gonna happen a date we don't predict it. We aren't perfect guys......so we'll just have to find out.

I think if it did happen, I'd be glad it happened in my lifetime....
