whats happening to underground

The other day i heard atmosphere on the radio and i was kind of tripping balls, i mean im glad hes making it, but to me something is taken away when an artist becomes overly popular, and their shit starts to get played out. Now at my school its cool to say you like the Grouch or Aesop or people like that. I just dont want underground to become the new fad. What does everyone, think, is underground about to take over MTV, or stay quiet?

Phoeniix 01-27-04 03:39 AM

some will make it. but some will stay underground. and there will always be new underground....

(did u wanna get choked again?? ;) )

DªÖ 01-27-04 04:21 AM

where i live by the time music gets here
its already run through the system and
really not the raw stuff that underground
music is, and inorder for underground to get
here it usually has to get through some
amount of exposure :\ dunno. shittl happn
and shit happens for a reason.

The Necromancer 01-27-04 04:53 AM

My Kazaa Lite has downloaded more underground rap and varios forms of hentai pornography than your Kazaa lite.

Um... the underground is being dug up dude. I mean face it, everyone wants a peice of that pie in the sky. Everyone wants money, exposure, etcetera. Some people make it, some people don't. I don't care wether something is underground or not. I only care if it's good music or not. That's what is important. Of course Atmosphere is getting public air play. He was on fucking MTV dude. You don't get more exposure than that, do you? And I aint gon' say shit cause I know given the chance, I'd want to be on MTV as well.

inspire 01-27-04 04:55 AM

Ok seriously. Fuck you guys.

ANY of you (Well maybe a select few wouldn't) would dance around naked and say "Yo niggaz I got dat ice and my paper on lock like a locksmith with keys and shit" if you got paid to do it. You shouldn't care if it's a fad or not. Be happy that these people are making money doing what they want to do! If you truly like it you will keep listening to the genre of music. I could care less if they were underground or not, as long as it's somewhat pleasurable to listen to. Some people only listen to "underground" music because they want to be all net-cool and shit on RB.. I like 50 cent, he has nice songs at times.. I also like Necro, one of the most fucked up people I have ever listened to..

In short..

Listen to what you like quit worrying about what everyone else is listening to. Dick.

DªÖ 01-27-04 05:00 AM

^ it aint about for me that its underground
but mainstream it ... doesnt feel right ... it doesnt
feel like good music.. :\ too much beef like 2 pac he
was a good mc but what he had to die for was
shit shouldnt happen, sometimes i think its over fame
dont feel like hip hop .......

inspire 01-27-04 05:06 AM

^Listen to what you like then.. Those artists, whether you like it or not.. Do not give a fuck about you.. And you should not give a fuck about them. Move onto the next.

DªÖ 01-27-04 05:11 AM

^ i aint arguing i just aint a fad slut :)
but also no doubt if shot given
be on mtv to battle/bust a freestyle
not to just stand around to act like
i know shit :|

Penskills 01-27-04 10:39 AM

look at mos and talib...some from underground will eventually make it..

IllmaticStatic 01-27-04 10:44 AM

ya thats tru^^
but i don't think the underground gonna take ova mtv like a boyband or anything

Fl~O~mEtRy 01-27-04 10:48 AM

yah, well underground is better than commercial at themoment shood underground shood try to stay underground but thats not for me to decide

Playjahrizer 01-27-04 08:36 PM

i still consider Aesop and Slug to be underground MCs...but how can you possibly be underground if you're on MTV?? not that it really matters to me because i dont just listen to one type of music, underground, mainstream, etc..if it sounds dope I dont care what its classified as

Canuck 01-27-04 09:31 PM

Look. These Commercial .vs. Underground threads are becoming the next annoying Eminem .vs. Benzino shits.

Man-o-Man, once ya make'n ya cash, ya commercial. When people know ya, and they DOWNLOADING your music, your underground.

Makes sense to me.

i would LOVE to see that. the world, needs to be like that with real hip hop being allover the radio and TV.

so it could show people hip hop isnt a bunch of ignorant people. rapping about stupid shit. so they could see rap artists actually have talent. and they might respect us more as artist

fuck anyone that doesnt want real hip hop to blow up.

MuhThugga 01-28-04 12:49 AM

Seriously. Shut the fuck up. I was estatic to see Atmosphere and Aesop Rock get air play on MTV. I'm happy that they are finally getting the recognition that they deserve. It just makes my life so much easier when I can find the albums in stores without having to go order them online.

Plus I'll actually be able to talk about these guys in school without someone looking at me like I'm from fucking Mars.

Of course, now that means I'm the guy who listened to these people before the became big.

What I found funny though is that some kid the other day was like, "Man, everyone knows Atmosphere." And about a month back before the single was played, that same kid would be like, "Who?" So congratulations on Atmosphere's part.

The only downfall is that I'm going to have to deal with idiots that claim to be die hard Atmosphere fans and have been listening to them since the beginning. "The beginning" to these people will be "Seven's Travels." Slight factor in the whole scheme of things...

Anyways, be happy that these people are finally getting the recognition that they deserve. And the artists should be happy that the fans have spread the word about them. So congratulations on both ends of the spectrum.

Emotion 01-28-04 01:02 AM

Yeah listen to what u like reguardless how many other people have there cds

DEL the funkee 01-28-04 01:03 AM

lets take this one imbecille at a time

line up so its easier for me to finish your life

wogzta 01-28-04 01:21 AM

Who gives a shit if they become popular, as long as the music is good. Nas is commercial but he's still dope.

And anyway, Aesop Rock is perfect for the mainstream... hes been a gangsta all along...

"Mars attacks.... with electric gats"

DNUFO2 01-31-04 04:49 PM

I personally like it when I hear someone I've known about for a while get big. Atmosphere-"Trying to Find A Balance" is one of the most requested songs out here in the Bay area at the alternative rock station.

Dragon I 01-31-04 05:19 PM

if nebody i listened to was on mtv and underground i'd be happy. good artists deserve exposure and the rewards that come with it regardless of whether they're undergroung or commercial. as long as they have talent, it's all good. heck, if anybody i met knew what the hell i was talking about when i even mentioned rakim then i'd be happy. crappy town that i live in and all. i swear like one person i know has heard of rakim. lol. but yeah. you should be happy a talented artist is getting big. at least now some thought's will get to the hip hop hating types.
