Computer Passwords.

dont bother reading if you cannot tell me how to fix this.
ok, i got a password on my computer. so that basically only i can use it. my brother somehow got on, showed me how he got around my password and shit. He went into safe mode, by shutting down my cpu (it was on the away thing and he didnt have the password). so he then erased my password through safe mode. this is gay. my cpus slow as shit now, cuz he dl'ed kazaa and lots of other shit. someone tell me how to make it so the cpu cant be gotten onto without the damned password. i know some of yall know shit about cpus. :(

Canuck 02-10-04 02:46 PM

It depends on your Operating System. What are You using?

Edicius 02-10-04 02:46 PM

Erm, ..i know , i cant explain in enlish o.O Its not that hard tho..

Ambitious 02-10-04 02:47 PM

well....you can always go into a computers settings and get a round the password....(thru dos/safe mode or when its just starting up)
my advice to you is to just delete erything he downloaded :) tell him to put it on a cd......b/cuz you are deleting it....but its almost impossible to keep sum1 who knows what they are doing out of your pc......unless some1 else knows the deal...but i dont...
best i could do.

The End 02-10-04 03:23 PM

I know away that gets around it. However, I don't really feel like sharing that information with all of RB.

:)

(And if you know me, you know that I'm not the biggest 'computer nerd', however.. I do know alot of them, so.. w00t)

Aisle Phive 02-10-04 03:24 PM

Congratsl.^ :)

Just uninstall all the shit he downloaded, then beat the fuck out of him, should work.

Induelz 02-10-04 03:44 PM

if ya use windows XP go to control panel, user accounts and change the password thru there, thats only if ya using windows XP

pz

Kalvin 02-10-04 04:17 PM

Which version of Windows are you using? Win2k? XP Pro? XP Home? If you never set a password for the Administrator account, that could be the reason why he was able to login through safe mode and delete your password for your other account. Boot into safe mode and set a password for that account.

Then reboot and in your computer bios, make a password be required to start up your computer... that way if he reboots, he would need the pass before anything even loads... quick and simple fix. Only way to bypass that is if he pops open the case and resets the cmos. Case locks? To be even more secure, use NTFS for your filesystem. If he gets pass your bios password and uses a regular dos/win98 boot disk that doesn't support NTFS, he won't be able to read any files. If you are even more paranoid, NTFS can also encrypt your files.

I had a feeling you'd show up for this thread.

Nope, but the average person still think so.

(For you kiddies that care, CPU = Central Processing Unit)

Usefull o.O

Feeble Minded 02-10-04 05:05 PM

i already knew what cpu meant. kalvin, i have windows XP ..
but, i DID have a password. not as you started up the computer, but i had it set so that you had to have a password to log onto windows XP . however, it seems your saying it is possible to make it so safe mode isnt accessable with no password ? please explain , id be grateful. :)

(aisle, i cant kick his ass, he has 60 pounds and 2 years on me)

also, what do you mean by computer bios ? i have gone into control panel, and gone to "user accounts". those all have passwords. but the user accounts are the only thing on my computer that have passwords. no password is currently needed to get into safe mode, and i dont know how to add one. do you know how to add a password for when the cpu is first started up ?

mc aines 02-10-04 05:09 PM

i tink he ment that wen u turn on ur comp it cums up with enter a password....this is b4 xp even loads up this way no 1 wud b able 2 get in ya comp not sure if that wot he ment but im sure he wil b bk 2 explain

i didnt have tyo put in a password though

i just clicked cancel or ok or whatevers there and it brought me to xp

if that dont work then i would just call windows technical help

hope it helps

Feeble Minded 02-10-04 05:15 PM

lmao .. the whole point of a password is so that it makes you type it in and not bypass it .. ok, i'll shut down and try that & in the meantime wait for kalvin , lol

Feeble Minded 02-10-04 05:28 PM

ahh, awesome ... i got it now. thanks for the help kalvin, and mc aines. i told my brother he could no longer get on without my permission, he tried getting on about 20 times and failed.. it wouldnt let him go anywhere without the password.

for those of you who want to do it:
shut down your computer.
turn it back on.
hit F2, (setup)
then go down to computer security.
click enter.
go to password.
enable password.
enter one you WILL NOT FORGET.
:)

mc aines 02-10-04 05:30 PM

lol^^^ight i thought u did it like that just cudnt remember how as it was a long time since i had it on mine.........

Mentality 02-10-04 05:34 PM

Actually, he could still get in your computer. He could just totally reboot the hard drive, it would reset the computer and only basic files would be left, you'd have to download things like Kazaa and AIM back. So if he's that determined he could get on, but the shit takes forever. It gets rid of some viruses and bugs, I do it occasionally when my computer is slow or anything else.

Mr.Christensen 02-10-04 06:57 PM

K.Largo 02-10-04 07:03 PM

then use the term in the right context dawg lol. thats like me callin a japanese person chinese and when corrected I say "I alreadt knew the difference." lmao. Anyway, even in safe mode u have to select a user to log on with and use the password to get in. How many users do u have setup for your computer? im guessing that one of them is not password protected. If so, its probably the administrator. The admin of your computer is the one with access to change everything. The default admin in Wndows XP is the first user that was setup on your computer. Also, disable the guest login if it is enabled.

on to the bios...

the bios is what you see when u first turn on your pc. It shows all your system information. Depending on what motherboard you have you should have to press either DEL or F2 to get into your bios setup. In the setup there should be an option to password protect your computer. This will make a user type a password before the computer will boot up at all. the only way around this password is to open the case and reset the motherboard from a jumper. Be very careful messing with the bios tho. you could fuck things up. But if you do u can always reset the motherboard. If you told me what motherboard you have I could give you step by step directions. If you dont know but bought your pc as a package deal like Dell or Gateway, you could give me the model of your pc and i can find out.

...OpeY... 02-10-04 07:44 PM

ok u did it... nevermind lol

Feeble Minded 02-10-04 09:10 PM

lol... thanks anyway. oh, and i just call it cpu, because everyone knows what im talking about anyway. when i say cpu, everyone obviously automatically thought of computer, otherwise end would not come in saying "cpu means blah blah blah". so, i accomplished my goal, when i said cpu, you thought of computer .. thats what languages were made for...to understand each other. the difference between that and calling a jap chinese is that if you call someone chinese, they think of someone from china. if you call them a jap, they think of someone from japan. dont make me explain my language usage again, end.

Kalvin 02-11-04 04:00 AM

Opey basically summed it up. With the bios password, he cannot get past it unless he opens up the case and either pulls the jumper to clear the cmos or he yanks out the cmos battery... I've done both before... Of course if the cmos is always being cleared, it'd get suspicous... I once ended up figuring out what keys were typed for the password and figured out the password that way.. Some computers have a way for you to lock the case with a lock or a key. Do that and you are pretty much set.
