Best hip hop album of all time?

What do u think is the best hip hop album ever?

Give reasons why u think so. No bullshit reasons like "Eminem is the best rapper ever so anything he did," or "I like the black album cuz now that Jay's retired i wanna be on his dick like everyone else." I hear people say that kind of shit all the time.

Anyway I think its a tie between 2pac's Me Against the World and Jay's Reasonable Doubt; Both 5 mic classics.

Me Against the World was Pac's shining moment. I think it was his last album that was truly felt. Before he signed with Death Row and played into the gangsta image that made 50 so popular, and as he was in T.H.U.G. life's dying
days he made this album and put his soul into it. I think that seven years past his death he is over rated, but would anyone know his name today if it werent for this album? Going so far as saying he is the best rapper ever is something I'm not gonna get into. But this album is by far his best work, and there arent many out there who even have the potential to touch it.

And i dont think theres a person out there that wouldnt put Reasonable Doubt in their top 10 list. From Brooklyn's Finest with Biggie to Dead Presidents there wasnt a dull cut on it. Jay came out at the top of his game. Some people say the blueprint is on the same level but I disagree. Jay has never been this consistant on any other album.

I am the best rapper every, so anything I ever did.

DeRon 04-25-04 02:51 AM

All Eyez On Me (1996) - Greatest Album in the history of music. PERIOD. Nothing comes close. If it wasnt for that album, take your pick of the following.

Cronic (1992), Doggystyle (1993), Ready To Die (1994), Makaveli - The 7 Day Theory (1996), Me Against the World (1995), Dogg Food (1995), Cronic 2001 (1999). Just some of the top albums ever.

I think people are forgetting about Makaveli The 7-Day Theory Album.. that is a hip hop MASTERPIECE. 50 Cent called that album "the blue print of a perfect album"

Killuminatic 04-26-04 12:11 AM

50 cent sucks too so that shit went down the drain damn quick. No but seriously i like that album too.

Perpetu-ill 04-26-04 12:13 AM

soyy to bitch

but ya's lists aint shit without anyone from underground
i know a lot of people in underground that have ahd better albums that tupac, in lyrically terms

tupac was more poetic that he was a hip-hop lyrcists

Shadows edge 04-26-04 12:24 AM

tupac wasn't really poetic. illogic is poetic.

Perpetu-ill 04-26-04 12:36 AM

idk

i still consider him mor poetic
hes rhymes arent that complex
but some poetry is, so i dont know

but tupac has the most album sales, i still think those lists are wack without some of the great underground artists

dren 04-26-04 03:02 PM

pac was gangsta before he signed with death row. do any of you listen to his lyrics? he just had a different sound when he signed with death row. more mainstream appeal to his beats and raps once he signed with the death row.

the best hip hop album ever to be released has to be...
Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
nothing has come close to a perfect album since. I have all sorts of CDs and this album right here has it all. More than a handfull of emcees, all of which were highly regarded at the time. When the Wu dropped, everyone would have had 2 or more members in their top 10 greatest emcees list. The beats RZA crafted set a new standard. They were fresh and original, and so was the samurai theme the CD followed. Many tried to duplicate this but not one came close. This album is one of the few I know every single track to by heart. I remember when 36 chambers dropped, the first time I heard "C.R.E.A.M." and "Method Man".

I have yet to hear a CD as complete as this. 8 wonderful and unique emcees spitting nothing but raw lyrics over some of the hypest and rawest beats I have heard. Nothing even compares.

I love Doggy Style, but it doesn't touch this album. Scorpion Circles by Genelec and Memphis Reigns is a dope CD by two underground heads from Cali, but it doesn't compare to the Wu.

CounTREE Jay 04-26-04 04:52 PM

I think The Don Killuminati is the Best Album of all time.

Another sic ass one though is "Mos Def and Talib Kweli are BlackStar"

I like Talib Kweli, in case niggaz didn't know

40oz 04-26-04 06:22 PM

Any of Pac's work there are so many its hard to pick one. There all good in the own regard

Identity2k 04-26-04 06:26 PM

my 3 most favorite albums ever are

EMINEM-THE EMINEM SHOW-an album that u can play from beginning to end without skipping a track, its perfect, he spilled his heart out on that entire album and its a masterpeice.

ROYCE DA 5'9''-BUILD AND DESTROY- one of the best albums ever when it comes to lyrics (look at my sig). It's like THE LOST TAPES but of Royce.

MOS DEF-BLACK ON BOTH SIDES-my opinion of a classic, its got a little bit of everything and its pretty tite lyrically.

dren 04-27-04 09:30 AM

I know this thread is all based on opinion, but have any of you really heard any other rap CDs other than eminem and 2pac? Eminem is great, my favorite emcee, but I would not put one of his CDs up in my top ten...well maybe his slim shady ep. The Marshal Mathers LP comes close. 2pac is another one of my favorite emcees, but I couldn't put one of his CDs up there either except for maybe Me Against the World, All Eyes On Me is close, but there is filler material on the second CD.

Can you honestly say you listen to both CDs on All Eyes On Me all the way through, and love each and every song? Is the production dope on every song? Do you really listen to that "What's your phone number?" track?

Have any of you ever even heard a

KRS One album
Wu-Tang's 36 Chambers
Wu-Tang's double CD
Mobb Deep's Infamous
Illmatic
Paid in Full
Ice Cube's old albums
Scarface's The Diary
GZA's Liquid swords
Meth's Tical
Rae's Cuban Linx
fresh prince's older albums
2pac's pre death row albums
kool G Rap
Masta Ace
list goes on

his last two albums weren't pure Tupac. Yes it was his lyrics but other people layed down the beats. People take his music and twist them up so many times that the only thing left thats purely Tupac is his own lyrics. All Eyez On Me was soley 'pac and it was from the heart and coming out of jail he EXPLODED back onto the scene with that album. And I think I should point out that it was also the first double album in hip hop history. All Eyez On Me is the most well-rounded cd of all time. Its perfection. Name one other album that has seven singles??!?! How many albums you know that produce damn near TEN videos!!!! Every song from that cd could have been a single. Its a hip hop masterpiece.

Killuminatic 04-29-04 03:42 PM

Not many that have seven singles but some of those got played as fuck to. A lot of other albums had 5 from one disc. I just dont think all eyez on me was as good as it could have been. Name one single off of me against the world that was worse than any song on all eyez on me. Me against the world had the title track, dear mama, so many tears, temptationz, it aint easy, old school, fuck the world. His best songs ever came off that shit. The only ones that could compete off all eyz on me were i aint mad at cha, only god can judge me and ratha be ya nigga. Makaveli was 10 steps above that album too.

DeRon 04-29-04 06:46 PM

how do u want it, california love (the ultimate song representing an area), 2 of americaz most wanted, ambitionz az a ridah (the hardest song ever), all about u, life goes on, tradin war stories, cant c me, thug passion, shit i could go on and on.. greatest album of all time. PERIOD.

Killuminatic 04-29-04 07:03 PM

To live and die in L.A. was better than california love, Bomb first went harder than ambitionz az a ridah, Cant c me was just generic as fuck so....................no

K-Trin 04-29-04 07:07 PM

I like Eminem's marshall matter's LP.It was so good, that you just couldn't distinguish between fact&fiction.Eminem created his own world in this album.I was 9 yrs old,and when I heard KIM,I ws like"DAMN!!!".Em made that shit look sound so real.Definetly my favorite album of all time.

Killuminatic 04-29-04 07:15 PM

Have u even heard the ones everyone else is talkin about kid? Marshall mathers Lp was okay at best. Well, compared to proven classics like most of the other ones listed.

K-Trin 04-29-04 07:31 PM

I'm not as old as most of you guys around here,so I never heard Tupac or Biggie's albums.I'm only 14 while most of you guys are like 19-20.So you guys grew up with biggie and tupac,I grew up with em and 50.

Killuminatic 04-29-04 11:37 PM

50 is the biggest piece of shit to come out since the backstreet boys. he appeals to the same people.
