Two classic gangster films, probably the best ever...

Which is better? The godfather with the classic Mafia theme, or Scarface with the gritty life of a big time dealer...

Nah it's all about Scarface.

They are two different types of movies. The Godfather Trilogy focuses more on the dramatic aspect of the roots of Italian mob, up to the point of somewhat modern mafia. It also consists of 3 parts, and is within the top 5 movies ever made as judged by the American Film Institute.

Scarface on the other hand, is a single installment. It focuses on the more modern and flashy concept of Spanish mob within the modern Miami. Unlike The Godfather, when Scarface came out.. it was a total failure in the terms of ticket sales. It only started to become a classic within the undergound, and now is probably the most revered gangster movie.

So, to compare the two is impossible. Its all a personal preference. Me? I would pick Scarface. But thats only what i think.

Scarface, no question. Because it's closer to our time and more relateable haven the drugs reigns and such.

Yes, Scarface is "truer" and what not, but the godfather is classic, and is the best movie i have ever seen... And they are both mob movies that focus on trust and friendship and betrayal and backstabbing, along with other themes such as gangs and corruption.... But godfather is just better....Come on, Marlon Brando, young Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro...Just Classic

Also i think "A Bronx Tale" is a great movie, dealing with racism and mafia life back in the 50's... Sonny and C, a great flick..

You have to take into account that they are two totally different movies. The Godfather focuses on a crime family, that overcomes many obstacles, while Scarface, is about a ruthless guy trying to make his way to the top. If i had to chose, i'd pick the Godfather, cuz im italian and all. But they are both my favorites

Yea scarface is nice, but its more just ruthless and doesn't have story or purpose, but its still great... Menace is even more violent, but it has story and is powerful... Godfather is a classic, great story, jus str8 up mafia, comon tho marlon brando is dope in the godfather...

But i think better than both of these is the bronx tale, i love that movie...

These are 2 completely different movies! Scarface is about gangsters, the difinitive gangster movie, and Scarface is about a drug dealer. Now if we were talking about the original Scarface from 1932 which was really a gangster movie, then it'd be different. Yeah, Al Pacino's movie was a remake, for those of you who didn't know...
