Freestyling?
 

I've noticed that some people have a different idea of what exactly freestyling is. I always thought it meant spitting lyrics that you honestly made up as you went along. Some people believe that it is coming up with concepts before hand, then putting them into words later. And others believe that it is predetermined what you will spit beforehand......what is freestyling to you?

Freestyling for me is when I just throw on a beat and start spittin' spontaneous, it provides a better show for people when it's straight off the top. But people say freestyling on this site is waiting to check in to your battle before you write your verse...

That isnt free styling at all when they think of it and wait to write it down,,,,

When you face to face, you free about how ugly they are, clothes, teeth, the environement around you.....

Basically grabbing a MIC and spitting shit that You aint used befor,,,,,,,

What they do is prewrite and that is no way FREE STYLE ......

gotta agree with ice pick on this, freestylin is spitten not knowing wat ya next word /line/phraze is...thats it,if you write then spit it,its not freestylin..
there are no exceptions,wat ice did is freestylin.....wat you see all these kids droppin in battles are 99% writtens...

i gotta agree too, its just using your brain... its a real talent!

i prefer freestyles to writtens for the sheer genius in some of them, its so much harder to make them sound good and be clever with ya words but those who can do it make it work!

nah, freestylin' ain't ONLY usin' shit that's brand new. Like if you ask a lot of people who free a lot. They all have a 16 bar verse ready to use in FREE's ONLY. cuz usin' shit you recorded is fuckin' bitch move. But if you get stuck people use that. Also, usin' punches you never USED in battles before would be aiight too. Cuz I saw this article that was in the source about it. And Murphy Lee and some other guy said, "Fuck those people who say freein' is only off the top". He said freestylin' really means spittin' for as long as you want WITHOUT fuckin' up. It had some other guys but I forgot their names. But that's word.

exactly my point.....but that's what happens when you get 30 minutes to write 10 lines.....I sure as hell know that I'm gonna think of something really fucking quick, but none of my battles are straight off the dome. I honestly don't use anything that I haven't thought up within the time frame given though. But when it comes to actually spittin a freestyle, I won't lie, I suck. I write all of my songs and audio battles, mostly within an hour or so, but I write em.....:thumbup:

nah, it is NOT Freestyle AKA keystyle. Keystyle and Freein' different things. You only get seconds to spit in a free. But in a keystyle you get more time to think cuz you be typin' up the words. and that's word

basically, freestyle is when you battle face to face, and spit verse impromptu...

freestyling for me is when im listening to a hot song and then i spit a bar...something hot that sounds like some banks fire shit...then after that i just kinda cant think of anything else so i start saying all this basic shit but still rhyming...then i just kinda start mumbling and just putting rhyming words after my mumbles...

Hes got it sort of. Most cats when they free, just free... like make up shit on the spot.. But if they get stuck they have somethin to use to give em time to think... I dont think a 16 bar verse is fair, but depenfing on how skilled you are you need more time to think that shit up..

yea, agree wit most points. And yea, every rapper has a word they use when they stuck. Like nigkas start out, there line is big. Like, "Yo, this nigka think he good..." but then when they get more skilled it's more like one word such as "yo" or "I grab the mic" too. I personally like sayin' "Stop steppin' and fall back or..." :D

But anyways, the pre-writin' thing is kind atru.

think people cant free style on text...cuz noone knows if its an actual free or some prewritten shit...a free style is when you make it up a as you go.Pre writting is retarded even though everyone has done a little prewritting its a bitch move to do it when you have skill. Punches are ok if you havent use them, and i try and use some quotes from people in frees. IF i cant think of anything during a free i repeat a veryation of the first line and continue it differently.
