Rapping as a career ?

Im wondering how many kids here actually wanna make rap their full time job. Personally, rap lyrics n music is something I live for, I love hearin new dope rap tracks.. Theres been nights where I been high n drunk off my guts jus listenin to tracks trippin off my head at what the artists are saying with their lyrics. And that shit is fucken amazing.

Thats why next year Ill be trying to get into a sound engineering coarse so I can hopefully get kick started in the music industry. Get some experience producing and all that shit.

Is there anyone else here making moves to try n get into the rap game as a profession ? Or do you just write lyrics as a hobby and a bit of fun to come onto rap sites ?

He's right . .

& to even be considered
you dont need to be an ill rapper...
You need to be decent . . who can rhyme normally
Also having a dope producer is more important than the rhymer in the industry . .
You need to look like a hiphop artist and not some skinny stupid fake looking punk who can rap i l l . .

The industry dont sign SKILL . . they sign you baised on the way you can FLOW and if you sound good on a track & look like people would look up to you . . they would probably get back to youi . .

IF you some skinny ass nerd who rhyme's illness .. BELIEVE me just look for a proffesion.

Main 11-02-04 03:21 PM

lyrics dont sell albums anymore.
chorus's do.

DaKnockZ 11-02-04 04:02 PM

i disagree... yall ever heard of brother ali? dudes an albino.. made it big wit his lyrics

you gotta have faith.. and if you truely love it, you'll go for it.. if all rappers thought like you they would never be where they are now

Main 11-02-04 04:07 PM

people are entitled to there oppinions.
im just stating the obvious thats all.
these days people aint listenin to songs for the lyrcis,
if they were there wouldnt be no 'crunk'

Kawn Flixx 11-02-04 04:08 PM

..main you have mainstream mind..

..I can carelless if my record sells..I just want respect as a lyrisist..
..jay-z and nas and pac and big didn't get there with choruses..

don't judge rap by TRL and 106&park man

Main 11-02-04 04:13 PM

^^ thats so wrong tho.
i listen to mostly canadian artists,
n canadian raps alot different from what you would classify 'mainstream'.
jay z nas biggie tupac.. how long ago was that?
the games revolved it aint like it use to be. chorus's sell now.

Main 11-02-04 04:14 PM

Kawn Flixx 11-02-04 04:34 PM

ye..

but I don't care about record sells..

I just want people to respect me..

Chorus's are just shit to let you remember the song better..

keeps it in your head..but you don't buy people with a good

chorus's album..you buy people who make you go OOOOO

at least I do..

DaKnockZ 11-02-04 04:58 PM

Yeah, and i think g unit bringin that shit back more than anybody.. banks, buck, game and 50, they all got catchy chorus, hot beats, and combine sick lyrical verses in there too.. buck my favorite.. mixes the southern style with still havin' dope lyrics

DaKnockZ 11-02-04 05:00 PM

yall heard that song "do it like me"? shyt is hot

SKILLDVERSE 11-03-04 02:41 PM

i agree with indepth, i'd be nice to have all the money, but tha real thrill is to have tha respect. If i ever made it i'd be happy if they gave me a decent pay check and people respected me

That's correct but they didn't live in a day and age where everything has been surrounded by hip hop. It didn't really explode until BIG and Pac had died, because then we had the first martyrs of hip hop. Now when you turn on the T.V. stupid commercials are using rappers in them. (Burger King, McDonalds, any freaking little kids toy commercial.)

And yes there are places that will sign you to their record labels based on skill. One is Rawkus Records, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Skillz (three of the dopest MCees in my opinion.) are on that label. Streetsweeper Entertainment, Kay Slay's label, do a couple freestyles with some hot punches, you might get signed, (ex. Papoose - you don't know who this is, try google and download some of his music) you may never drop a popular album commercial wise, but you will make a good amount of money street wise. Full Surface Records - Swizz Beats label, very good choice and very sturdy ground to be on. Right now his major star is Cassidy, he had Yung One on there too but he flopped and was dropped from the label. So you impress him some and you may get in there. Finally Star Trak, these guys have one of the greatest labels in my opinion, even if you record don't do too good, they won't automatically drop you from what I've heard. They do a good amount of producing in their roster's records (clipse, kelis, roscoe p. coldchain) and they don't seem like label owners.

So there, just look on the back of the CD's that you buy and if you got a demo send them out to the adresses on the back of them.

You can get signed that way.

Keith Moon 11-03-04 03:49 PM

I can see myself ghostwriting for an artist so I can shop and other things without the attention.

And if he gets too bigheaded get on stage and humiliate him :)

Main 11-03-04 03:51 PM

bet you ya wont get signed and actually do something.
not no pussy ass label either, if you wanna make rap ur career,
you gonna have to do more then sell a couple hundred albums,
aint no way you can support u or a family sellin 200 copies of ur cd.
