My Mic

Shure SM58

when i record the damn vocals are low as hell even when i yelled
to see how high it would raise the DB scale it was shit.....

could it be my cable? or do i need a new soundcard?

New Meth0d 03-26-05 12:31 AM

well all you gotta do is turn up the gain and output on your pre-amp

20 GraND 03-26-05 12:43 AM

he dont have a pre-amp
u dont need a preamp for the shure sm58
just in cool edit, up the volume,....

...Voke... 03-28-05 08:21 PM

^^jea i do that but this ish is hella low

Know-Gimix 03-28-05 09:40 PM

right click the speaker in your lower right hand corner of the screen... it will open your windows mixer settings, look for your mic in settings and turn them up until you get where you want... if you dont have a speaker down there go to start menu and go to the control panel and open it from there (Sounds and Devices.. Advanced).

...Voke... 03-28-05 10:09 PM

i did all that shit, i put it all the way up and messed with all that
could it be my cable, cuz i read sometimes your cable can effect your
mic volume and shit

Know-Gimix 03-28-05 11:32 PM

I suppose.... i dont record with the comp... so i really dont know... never had a problem with mic cables yet... good luck.

When you enter the volume settings click file, then click properties and make sure the recording button is checked, its different then the playback one.. Maybe yah recording volume is down in recording.. hit me back, if yah get know results

SM58 is gonna need a preamp. So will any mic worth it's money.

...Voke... 04-05-05 09:16 AM

na you dont NEED a preamp just a good cable hoe.......

∆ P E X X 04-07-05 06:01 PM

^^An SM58 without a preamp?? umm..if you say so. Only time I've ever seen any mid range to high end dynamic deliver without a pre-amp is with a purpose-built audiocard. Short of that, not once. They all needed preamps.

Phenom-in-all 04-08-05 02:50 PM

Sorry to say it man, but you NEED a preamp. Your mic will "work", but it will sound hella low, and quality won't be at it's peak. Here's why

The Shure sm58 is a Dynamic mic so it doesn't "need" a preamp, but it's comparable to me, freakin my $5 cpu mic hella good, if you don't use one. SO...

Get this:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_...USB-main-1.html

It's one of the best preamps for the dollar value, PLUS, it's got a USB connection for us cpu guys who mix via cool edit/cubase/acid/etc, rather than a mixing board. On M-Audio's site it's $179.00, but I looked on ebay and you can buy it now for $149. Or you can even bid at a lower cost.

lol thanks, i'll look into that

dimetapp 04-28-05 01:29 AM

lol

no you don’t (necessarily) need a preamp but shit man if you cant get the volume up 1 you don’t have a clue what your doing. 2 YOU NEED A PREAMP I don’t know any serious artists that don’t use some kind of pre-amplification it goes hand in hand with any good mic just like the other guys said.

...Voke... 04-28-05 01:31 PM

lmao at people still posting in this, i said i figured it out, and all i need to do is amplify it
20 grand has nice quality and doesnt use a preamp so blah

gotta agree with phenom thats the same mic i got a shure58 and i got a m-audio pre amp same shit but i only paided 100 dallors since i bought it with the mic and a stand also i got a lil deal you gonna have to download the m audio cd that comes with it also to change your drivers before you can use it as well which takes a little space on your comp but the amp really helps the mic 1000% so go get it or your 100 dalllor mic is worthless

...Voke... 04-29-05 01:30 PM

ight, i'll look into that.........
