Being "Ghetto"

In your opinion, what makes someone "ghetto"?

Selling drugs? Cuz I sell tylenol all the time.
Having a tough life? Cuz my dad moved out and I have had a tougher life than some.
Being an addict? I'm addicted to altoids.
Living in a run down house? Cuz the house I live in is pretty bad.
Being poor? I'm not dirt poor but I'm not rich.

I mean, how do you define "ghetto". If you judge it like that, then I am ghetto. But I mean, if you black and go through that are you more "ghetto" than a guy who is white and went through that?

Acuity 05-06-05 04:05 PM

its partly that, its partly your state and mind frame, and the toils n tribulations of your life, street wisdom

and a black guy who went through the same as a whit guy is not simply more ghetto bcos he is black...i am black and sayin a black guy is automatically more ghetto is wackness...

Sean Gunner 05-06-05 04:08 PM

Well, I lived in Detroit, good part though. I guess the point I am trying to make is that being "ghetto" is used as a compliment now, but to me it seems like it is saying, "Congradulations, you are a piece or trash who probably can't read"

Acuity 05-06-05 07:51 PM

I think the opposite, altho i can c ur point, but whnen i call sum1 ghetto im normally referrin to their street wisdom n demanour n life story.

M-Eazy 05-06-05 09:15 PM

Most people define ghetto has being out of the ordinary, and being ill-mannered. Most people also use ghetto when they are talking about Blacks. In America, and probably all across the world, Blacks are considered the "ghetto" race.
Ghetto is actually a section of a city occupied by a minority group who live there especially because of social, economic, or legal pressure.
A sentence using the word "ghetto" to most people would be something like this:
"That house looks hella ghetto",< (messed up/ran down) ,"She got ghetto booty", <(black girls ass/it's big) or something in that nature. Most people use the word "ghetto" as a slang word when they are speaking about blacks.

Terumoto 05-09-05 10:21 AM

If you do go through that, then fine, no problem.

What really pisses ME off is when kids fight about who's more "Ghetto," as if being poor is the coolest thing in the world.

That's part of my point. Why does society act like it's cool to be poor?

Because of peer pressure. You got MTV still running this crap 24/7 and teenagers watching it. They're stupid then enough to like it, because all of their friends listen to the stuff called "hip-pop" and wear "ghetto" clothes. Even though we don't see it, we do it out of pressure sometimes. It's alright to wear hip-hop inspired clothes, but it's bullsh*t that those stupid kids out there think it's cool to be from the hood. I can't go by one day without seeing some idiot bragging to be gangsta. I could go on expressing my hate, but everyone already knows what I mean. But fuck it, I don't give a shit about them, I know that I'm already better than those people, so I don't have to be like them.

Sean Gunner 05-11-05 10:43 AM

Finally! We know what Nelly is now!

Hip-POP!

Calm 05-11-05 11:01 AM

what really pisses me off is when ppl tell me I'm a sellout cuz i made it out of the hood.
wtf!? why would i want to stay in a place where its not safe to walk the streets at night. My pops died on the same corner my grandfather did. i dont wanna continue the tradition. my brother got locked up cuz he killed a dude trying to rob him... the hood is not fun. everyone i know is trying to get out. just a lot of folks dont know how. or ar too institutionalized to do so.

Dirty Nigga 05-11-05 11:03 AM

i dont think u gotta sell drugs or even have any influence what so ever in drugs ta be ''ghetto''...if your ghetto, your ghetto, you dont choose ta be, it all comes down too the fianacial situation, the way you act/talk does not make u ghetto...its where u live, what u do, what u know, an how u live your life.

Actually i Think d ghetto symbolizes ur cage, struggles, trail and tribulations which u have been given d task to break out from.where i live, the physical ghetto is depressing...no electricity yet we pay bills, work hard in skool but d rich pay their way thru,no jobs, insurance? wats dat?....if u even get to buy a second hand car ur a big boy.All this and more are chains dat the average nigerian has to deal wit....so by being Ghetto or Down wit it,ur signin up for the struggle and when u break free u betta b proud of it man!

thats ghetto shit... that right there is bein ghetto... just bein in a situation alot of people can't get out and getting killed is a everyday thing...(like jews in ww2)
..
and when people try reppin that they ghetto or "more ghetto" than someone else because the ghetto is real and being real is a compliment... so basically its just another word for bein real, not another word for bein poor and stupid.
i dont wanna be ghetto but i try to be real, and if someone tried fighting over who's more ghetto i'd laugh at 'em cuz they're prolly dumb asses and dont have any idea what bein real is about.

Triple_N 05-16-05 01:18 PM

ThatsWhatSheSaid 05-16-05 07:24 PM

To me, being ghetto is a mindstate, not where you live, what you look like, what you wear or what you say, in my opinion, its not bein afraid to say what you feel and not takeing shit from no 1, also about knowin what you want and gettin it, being on a paper chase, and being respected, thats what it is to me, who knows, everyone thinks differently, i just think with a fight club mind set.....

Genarule 05-17-05 07:48 AM

I agree with AS, its not about where you live, what you look like. I think its about not being intimidated to speak your mind, and also i think its about what they've gone through during their life.

ThatsWhatSheSaid 05-17-05 09:48 AM

He was the site clown, but he is getting boring now so I am trying to find the new site clown. He creates beef to up his post count, and talks a lot of ish which was fun to read until it all became the same. Also his stupidity is now annoying instead of funny to read. Overall, he was something to laugh at, but now he is just a pest.

DON 05-17-05 10:36 PM

ghetto is bein black and from the city, u could b from another racial neighborhood in the city and still the ghetto thing wouldnt work. its reserved for being black but thats just my view

And people say white people are racial? This is my point, I hear rap artists say "Black on black violence" like its special. What about white on white violence? It's just as bad. It seems like African Americans draw more attention to the violence, killing, etc... in their lives. This doesn't help people's view of them. Why do you continue to rap about drugs, violence, sex, and stuff that people frown upon?

ThatsWhatSheSaid 05-18-05 11:10 AM

cali is a queer, he's been one since he signed up as caliph, than changed his name to empire......than to cali...
