OK...Here's the question...Are parents responsible for payin for school?
college I mean specifically
I've had this debate/discussion with a number of people I personally say yes parents are responsible for paying for school because a child can't possibly save up enough to pay for it themselves. From birth to 17 (when most graduate from highschool) when exactly are they supposed to ear enough money to pay for school? College to me is another expense parents should be responsible for... kids shouldn't have to work parents who didn't make provisions for their kids to go to school failed them wuts ur opinion on this? |
Uh...well were im from you gotta go to school...your parents dont have to pay...
And as for college...well..erm..thats the same...but if you 17 the you can get a part time job and still study....as for university..then yes...yoy should pay for your self...once your 18 its your responsibility... but like i said..any public tuition before the age of 18 is basically free...but you have to get the right grades for college of course... Oh and i guess you have to pay if you want private tuition...but i guess no one would do that unless your parents were willing to anyway... |
^^^well...my issue is this...what if the college u wanna attend costs 30,000 a year...
u graduate from high school at 17...exactly when do u have time to earn enough to pay for that>? and a part time job? iono man i aint feelin dat I think it's the parents responsibility from b irth to ensure the child is taken care of, including college a high school graduate has no opportunity to earn that much money from working age (14) to graduation...and taking out loans to pay for a 120,000 school is unbelievable it's possible...Im not saying a person CAN'T work...I'm just saying parents should be the ones to foot that bill |
Money dont grow on trees and it aint the parents responsibility its part theres and part yours
im paying for my own schooling right now and dont look for hand outs..... So if you work and save enough money you can get into a college....... Not all colleges are expensive |
it's not all the parents responsibilty to pay for schooling. you should at least chip in as much as you can toward your own future .
|
i think that the kids should pay as much as they can, but ultimately i feel that the parents are responsible
|
Well i think thats an excuse and people expect too much.....
I got good grades enough to earn a partial scholarship for myself.... My parents didnt do it for me , i did it on my own.... i make almost 40 grand a year working for a phone company in dedham mass..... and i take classes in the evenming and i pay for it myself,.,.... if you kill sombody whose fault is it yours or your parents you get cought selling drugs whose fault is it yours or your parents Parents have enough to worry about including putting the fucking clothes on your bac k and feeding you..They also provide shelter and various other shit they do for us...... in my eyes we owe them not the other way around |
the university i plan to go to is the most expensive in canada but has been ranked the best in canada for the last 12 years....it is 15000 a year including housing and shit...it's Acadia University, BTW....i hate how the price of post-secondary education is continuously rising....
that's happening because you need it to get good jobs*...and they know muhfuckas will pay for it no matter the price...cuz they have to.........the relationship between the price for university and the demand for university is an inelastic one........sorry for the economics lesson...it's what i do:thumbup: *and yes i DO realize that you can get some good jobs without a university education...i'm merely speaking of the majority of the employment opportunities for people without a university education are lower quality than those of the ones offered to those who do have that education |
i agree with that. i think the time when we owe them, is when you find you're feet. start getting a decent amount of money coming into you're household.
|
also, i feel that it depends on the family...if your parents had to pay for their own education, they shouldnt have to pay for yours....but if your grandparents paid for ur parents to go to school, then your parents should pay for you...basically, i'm sayin you shouldnt have to pay for your own university and your kids...one or the other.....or not, meh...my parents are paying for mine....at least they better be...*cocks gun*
|
my mother is throwing down over 50 grand a year for my college .... she promised me she would pay for my college. so i took her up on it...so yea parents should pay for college.. there is no way i could afford a tab like that.

my mom paid for her college her med school grad school....and had her internship at harvard.... she is gonna pay for my college because she dosent want me to have any debt when i'm done with college |
Your lucky then
but if you dont even pay for a little then how are you suppose to grow as a man getting everything handed out to you...... |
let me just say this turban....your mom's a sucker...also, tell her i'll eat her out if she pays for my university
|
my parents are paying for my education (unless i get a scholarship) and both my parents came from rough beginnings and neither of them got to go to the best college they got into bc of the money issue, but now they both have became very successful (im not sayin were rich by any means.... but considerin how much money their family had wen they were growin up, they both more than passed expectations) ..... and so they dont want me or my other siblings to have to suffer the same disadvantages they had to go through........
Ohh, and also i am technically not allowed to get a job because of the education program i'm in (IB) ..... they literally told us were not allowed to have jobs while bein in the program... many of the students still do get one, but in my case i especially shouldnt be responsible to pay for my education |
yeah, this is a topic thats really comin up for me too...
Cuz my dad is usin that in every possible way to me right now... cuz im headed to UNC next year, and so he's all like 'im payin for u to go to school next year and you're gonna show me its worth my money' so i gotta do all this work for him this summer like readin books and shit to prove to him i can handle it... But, im not complainin cuz im grateful that he's payin for my education and everything... but sometimes it feels like he's forgetting that we aren't business partners, i'm his son and having a child u should hope they go to college and its sort of on u to pay for it... |

ur talking oranges to my apples nigga I'm saying providing for a child's education is the parents responsibility...My parents agree with me...THey said that it's not right for a child to suddenly wake up one day and realize they don't have money for college...wut 5 year old, 10 year old, 15 year old can make any appreciable amount of money to go to a decent university...And, yes, not all colleges are expensive. There are Jr. and Community colleges which are affordable. HOwever, some of us didn't want to go to those. My college costs 32,000 a year. My parents paid for it. I was thankful. But, they kindly reminded me that it was their responsibility. And, if I ever have children, it will be mine to send them off to school without worries. THAT's good parenting. It's like leaving an inheritance... |

werd...im in math and economics ib |
^^^^^ figured u were pretty smart..... my high school is in the top 30 accordin to Newsweek..... and the only reason we arent in the top 10 is because our school isnt only IB, its got regulars and honors also.... on the list they had in Newsweek, they also listed the percentage of kids at the school who have free lunch, and we were like in the 50% range which was one of the highest on the list.... the top 10-20 mostly had like 1-9% people with free lunch............. i have a feelin that some of u people wont get wat the free lunch thing has to do with anythin, but w/e
|
<-knows what free lunch is
never had to be on it well...College is an investment...my mothers sees the money she spent as a "send off" to me in life...and I appreciate her for it...and it feels that way... My mom is a blue collar worker. She works at the post office. But, they make good money. The problem is, people who work in blue collar jobs don't have much room for advancement. That's why she sees her investment as a good thing. Perhaps one day I'll be able to buy my mother a new house, car, mansion, whatever. It's not about that, but what parent would want their child to start off life in debt? dats fucked up to me |
I'm having that issue right now because I would like to study in the USA which costs quite a lot and international students hardly get financial aid. Now the problem is my parents don't take me seriously so I been working a lot lately but with the money I'm earning now I might be able to pay for room and boarding for one year so aid from my parents is necessary...
|
They should pay at least half....Thats what i think...

Im guessin that shit was aimed at me........ wtf are u on man?!?! my school is a public school dumbass... and for the IB thing, i had to test to get in, along with them lookin at my previous grades and IOWA scores...... and than after they proved that i was academically good enough to be in the IB program, I had to have an interview, by myself, with the Dean of the Program to see if she thought i was a good fit (and i guess if she liked me).... and just so u know, half the people who took that interview were rejected from the school....... my parents didnt have to pay for shit except for novels that the school wouldnt provide.... so dont call me spoiled......... well, not yet, atleast |
yeah im in college rght now but i pay for it myself though........
