Does anyone else just fucking hate computers?
I swear to god man.. I found out that if you want to reformat an XP machine, you need a windows 98 boot disk just to get into DOS without windows running.. Then you need to go to a windows 98 computer, copy a file called format.com from the windows directory and run that from a second disc in dos.
Which basically means, if you want to reformat an XP machine and you dont have a second computer with windows 98 installed and start up disk handy.............your fucked.... Man, when I had 98, all I had to do was go to start, shut down, it had the option right there to restart in dos, then all you had to do was type format c: .. and its all done.......no hassel... no nothing, simple as fuck............. Why does XP have to be such an ass fuck when it comes to things as simple as reformatting........:banghead: |

I miss DOS.. I remember back in '95 or so when we had a pentium 90mhz... it was running like DOS 6.2 and Windows For Workgroups 3.11.. Before then, we had a 12mhz 286 with 640kb of ram.. windows wouldn't even run on it, so it was just DOS. Unlike windows, DOS is so simple, you'd have to do something really stupid like delete the wrong files to break it.
You don't actually need to have a Windows 98 disk to reformat the computer with XP. When you boot up with the XP install disk, there is an option to partition and format the disk. Don't remember the exact steps, but I remember doing it when I reinstalled XP pro on the laptop. Don't know about XP, but I run Win2k on the desktop and it is pretty stable as long as you don't do stupid stuff to it like getting it infected with virii, ad/spyware. Before I rebooted last week after install microsoft patches, it was up for 43 days straight. without problems. |
an actual post...from strobe...
smh...rv must be comin to an..end.. |

Man you know what programs do these days? They automatically download themselves without asking, then they parade around as spyware protectors and download a bunch of virus's and tell you that to get rid of them, you need to buy their software.. Its the dumbest scam I've seen in my life.. Like anyone would ever buy their shit to get rid of a problem they started. I'll try putting the xp cd in now and see if it works.. Its still a hassel compared to how it used to be.. First computer I ever got was like.. 128mhz or something around there.. Used to play doom 2 on it -_- |
^^^^^^^^this fuggin pirating and hacker shit is annoyin
my firewal reported that someone in KOREA attempted to hack my shit at 2:32 Am EST FUGGIN KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
lol Nos no you dont...what you want to do is completely reinstall windows and delete everything on your hardrive so its like brand new?...if so
when your computer starts up it should say something like press delete for setup or something or BIOS, press delete before the windows thing starts up where it should say the brand name of your motherboard in the beginning...press delete and it will go into BIOS. Then go to the drives section which will have your hardrives and cd/dvd drives listed, the first drive thats being checked is the floppy which is why you say you need a floppy 98 boot disc but you dont, you have to switch the floppy from 1st and replace it with your cd/dvd drive...this means that instead of the computer booting something from the floppy it will look on the disc. So just switch the floppy with the cd/dvd shit, restart and put the cd in and it will run the boot setup, not the original windows installation...during the boot shit it wont be installing windows but it will ask if you want to delete your hardrive completely and install only windows on it, if you want to, delete it and go on with the windows installation thats all if you want to install windows xp on a machine without a boot disc peace |
Just read what strobe wrote...well those are the steps to what strobe was saying
and nos programs dont download themsevles you need to trigger them, you're not running your computer the right way lol i get no virus's, spyware, etc....and i have 2 firewalls, 1 antivirus, and 1 anti-spyware program i dont get nothing, it all depends on what your doing and how you run your computer, if you dont know nothing about computers your computer is most likely gonna get fucked up cuz things on the internet pop up and you just want them to go away so u end up clicking something off and it might be something to download something else, you just gotta look at what your doin and shit. if you have mad spyware and virus's and shit then yea reformat your machine and start from scratch its the best way good luck peace |

You'd be surprised man. There are a lot of idiots out there. They would get frustrated and start pressing random buttons, or hit a button on accident and just start messing with the files. I met a dude who didn't know what Google was, so ya. |

These idiots you talk of would have to press F8 at the second boot screen, then sift through the choices down to restart in dos, then they would have to by some extremily crazy chance know to type into dos "c:\>format c: /s" and then after dos tells them in capitol letters "THIS WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION FROM YOUR SELECTED DRIVE OR PARTITION, DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE" they would have to press yes.. and then they would need to know the label of the drive or partition and only then would this work. Dumb people can play around in dos all they like it probably wont get them anywhere unless they know the correct commands.. But anyone stupid enough to do all that just by chance shouldnt deserve to have a computer anyway. |
What it need sto do is jsut be a stable environment instead of offering solutions to problems, it should eliminate the problems. that's what you get for a half-assed system that's a stolen watered down copy of another system, lol.
