How do you write to a beat?

Can someone help me with this?...I just don't see how someone can listen to a beat..and then write down shit that'd go with it.I know your sopposed to hit the snares with rhyming words..but how do you do that?

Can any audio heads help me?

Capone 08-29-05 05:13 PM

first picka beat that you feel..usally i listen to it im like dam shit comes to me right away...and i just jot it down...

just listen to it..and flow wit it you don't wanna just make anything and not flow at alll

Blay'all 08-29-05 05:14 PM

dont worry so much about having the rhymes hit the snares and shit....
just flow wit the beat, u take control of the beat dont let it take control of you..

well my take on it is kinda liek this. Make sure that your bars are within the bars of music. Don't be talking at the connection point between one bar and the next. limit your lines to them four beat-hits of the bar man and it's hard to go wrong. Just make sure your syl pacing is on the money, liek dont' have the first half of a bar start off at like..14 syls and the second half like 8. It'll sound liek you smooshed everything in the first half. Just some basic stuff to get a good idea what's going on. You have any tracks laid I can hear?

Sean Gunner 08-29-05 05:39 PM

Usually I listen to the beat 4 or 5 times, and I put an X everytime I hear a place to put a rhyme word, and then listen 2 or 3 times after that and then write.

Word to Dooms. That's a good way to start off writing in general. Later down the road your style and flow will become more complex and you'll have adapted to being able to write to beats effectively.

Ysdat 08-29-05 06:16 PM

Tap my foot to the beat on my head so I can hear it better.

J. Luth 08-29-05 06:19 PM

just listen to the beat over and over. And jus keep like freein' to it. Like see what comes to your mind, and write it down and shit.....

sometimes i trhink of a theme, or type of track i wanna write, and than find a beat to do it to....... but usually, the thing that works better is when i just find a beat im feeling and than write about whatever comes to me..... sometimes i actually free to the whole beat a few times, and what ever style and lines actually sound good, i keep..... i usually find the best rhyme scheme to a beat by doin that...... (recordin a few frees to it and seein wat goes best with the beat)

i unno if that sounds confusin, but do u know wat i mean?

the omen 08-29-05 08:58 PM

usualy once u develope, u can listen to tha beat n a rhythm will come to ur head, sumtimes its the same as one of the instruments patterns on the beat... sumtimes its just sum crazy shyt u make up... but the main idea is to alternate how long u hold ur tones, and vary them, like make it sound like music, your voice is an instrument, play different notes, dont become monotone, instruments are very diverse, just make a nyce pattern n stick w/ it if it fits tha beat... even try humming to it, n fit words into ur humming patter that sound good to u...

Tha Q. 08-29-05 08:59 PM

to me...each beat deserves its own flow...So, I write to the beat and makes sure each line fits...

I will sacrifice content for flow...but not much

jus let the beat inspire you

OrEo da cookie 08-29-05 11:17 PM

my whole crew does it like this....we write 16's about all topics....memorize them
when a beat comes up you just flow whatever one of them fits the beat the best and you got it
one take wonders too

its really easy find 1 line that flows, then start writing to that stucture you have wit the first line then see if it flows wit emotion and everything and if it doesnt just tweak the words around so it flows.

thats what i do.

Demonic Storm 08-29-05 11:25 PM

sit outside and spit to the rhythm of life

once you perfect that you'll have no issues spitting to a beat

that's how I got good at freestyling

whatever rhythm I got from my enviroment I went with it
if you dont know how to spit to beats

dont use beats at first
do your tracks accapella

cause you might be the type of person who needs beats made specifically for them

but write songs without beats and try to give them a rhythm
and once you perfect your flow you'll be able to tweak it to any beat

When I first started..

I basically just rhymed a hell of a lot more like multi after multi which flowed good untill I some how developed the ability to just flow my shit without thinking about it..

But I still do multi syllable rhyming and assonance a lot more than ya average emcee..
