Whats your creative process?
 

How do you come up with your lyrics?.......what influences you most?......when & where do you do ya best work?


Me.....I come up wit lyrics inconsistently.....I'll be watching TV then next thing I know I got a notebook in my hand I dun wrote 3 verses in 5 mins.....then other times I hear a beat an come up wit a hook on the spot then spend the next month tyring to write 3 verses to match it....My influences is....life....watching life is when I write best......like when I ride the city bus ...I always take a note book cuz I can look out the window and watch the passing buildings, people, an cars,...an see the artistry of it...I wrote sum of my deepest shit riding the bus, or riding the subway, anyone from nyc knows theres always that bum nigga playin drums on 2 buckets, or a bumass white dude wit sum broke ass guitar, people constantly moving, the smell of the air down there, laughing at people running for train then u hear that "ding" an the door closes 2 inches from they noses jus before they hop on, watching the station disappear then goin into the darkness of the subway tunnel...or the rain...something about gloomy, cloudy, rainy days makes me write deep thought provoking shit.....boredom...in class, a seminar, church, a wack date, lost a madden game at my niggas house & waiting for my turn....I jus pullout the notebook an start writing rhymes....those are punchline spots for me...when I'm bored I write punchlines....the porch....cyphering wit my niggas....I always spit a couple lines in freestyle mode that I gotta write down soon as I finish my spit, or the shower...I take the notebook wit me when i wash my ass...I hop in & out of the shower cuz I use to forget sum ill shit dat I'd think of while washing my ass, the luandry mat, or the emcee classic method sum trees, preferrably dat black..an a nigga's creativity sky rockets.....but I can never schedule writing...I can never do focused writing always spur of the moment..probably my creative weakness...if I set a time when I will write...say I say I'm a write from 4 to 5 o'clock....I'll either have a blank page or sum weak shit.

I feel you on the "incosistent" comment...

I'm a person who is very open to inspiration and emotions...So, I can also be driving down the street or just standing around and an idea will just come to me. Sometimes they are great ideas, sometimes they aren't. I try to repeat it over and over in my head so I won't forget before I get home and can write it down. Sometimes, I literally grab the first thing I can and write down an idea before it disappears. It's weird in a way. My mind feels like an open window. Every idea either for a song or concept that comes to me doesn't necessarily come from me thinking about it. It's almost as if something or someone else is just dropping ideas into my head and I can either go with it or reject it. When I write lyrics, I can force myself to write 16 bars easily. However, my best verses came from being inspired either by the beat or my surroundings. In other words, my best verses were those I didn't stress myself out about. I feel I do my best work either very early or very late in the day. I love the 5-6-7 AM hours for creative thought. I'm also very focused at 11-12midnight into -1 AM.

Well it depends on my mood. It's been mad hard for me to write battle lines because I'm depressed alot. My inspiration comes from anger or other talent. Any other talent can inspire me. I've gotten inspired looking at paintings and reading books. I usually write best when I know i can record it. I can't record so much now so I've slowed down alot. I used to love writing while cool edit was open and when I got a beat playing. Inspiration strikes when I don't think too much. I overthink alot so when I ignore the fact that I'm not signed or that I might not sell records I do good. Just a load of pressure off. Even though trips shit is more complex then mine I give no fuck.

there is no formular for my writing, i just write when i feel like it.

falling asleep i come up with most my concepts so ill jot it onto paper then write it the next day.

There is no "set method" for me to write, its like breathing ;)

My emotions and what I'm going through. Or it all depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

I write best when I'm drowsy..

I use to be like that..but once u been writing to beats for a while...u basically get timing down in ya head.....I usally spit on beats ranging from 80 - 90 bpms........the timing for that range is pretty much all the same.

I write to beats like 99% of the time. It gives me the mood or concept of the song, in my head and I go from there. I always got headphones on, or a beat cd in the whip, so where ever I am I got some new beats I put together, or got for my album. Whenever something hits me - even if its just 2 or 4 lines, I jot em down. The hardest time for me to write, is when I actually set out time in a night to jus sit and write. The inspiration has to hit me. word.

Well I have a bad concentration span, I'm one of those people that needs to be doing something fucking dope or else I get bored...REAL quick...

I can write any time of the day, any day of the week cause I always got stuff going through my head with new ideas and concepts that I wanna get down.. But in order to slow my thinking process down so I dont got a million things running through my head at once, I smoke weed every time when I write lyrics...

Recently its been fucked cause I'm too broke to get weed.. So I been going through a slump for a few weeks where I just cant write lyrics.. Its like, in my rhyme book you can notice a bunch of unfinished verse sections, --thats when i dont have weed... And then theres other sections where there are fucking tons and tons of finished tracks and 30-40+ bar verses cause I got weed...

Drugs are definatly a big part of my music...........

I was reading a klash interview, he said the same thing somoking weed then writing makes his shit a lot better, pitty i dont do weed =/

My creative process is easy: Every line that I think of that sticks in my head I'll record in my digital recorder if I can't get to write it out. If I can, I'll write the entire track out there, fertilized entirely by one line or concept. Find a beat to lock it to and it's done.

OR

Once I get a beat I like, I'll think of a line and start the process mentioned above. It's a breeze. What's writers block? It's what I'll name my tomb stone.

Ive actually found I write best without the aid of a beat...My best inspiration for my music is school and the niggas round me. I look at my school and I see what people do and not do...the rich kids dont work and throw their life away..the poor people work very hard..but it seems they wont make anythin in their life..I always mention that...also I agree wit Trip..on the bus to school I write alot there..its a 45 minute bus journey so I have alot to write..I always write in class.. I get my best ideas, and I jus write..my biology folder is full of lyrics...at home when I sit down and write to a beat...I normally dont get much done...so I record it to my tape player take it to school and write to the beat...at home I actually get ideas in the shower too lol..but i dont write em down...I get alot of ideas watchin my family coordinate..my house is rlly loud..theres 16 people here livin...And my last and most way I write is listenin to artists like 2pac , triple n , 20 grand and my boi tha q ...But mainly its Triple..because it was youre music tht inspired me to start so I jus get infatuated with all ure subliminals..so I try incorparate it...Listenin to tracks like:

By Triple N, 20 Grand and Tha Q inspire me..because more or less theyre kinda like me..underground artists..and to see what they can do inspires me to do the same..

lmao @ washin' my ass. Yea, for me, the bus, shower, and class are when I think of my best shit to write. In class is the best one for me. makes sense since in class that's where you sposed to think a lot and shit

hmm....me it depends on the beat. I'll most likely get the feeling of the beat. then think of something creative to pull off.

yeah i feel you on that.. when i heard Q's and alot of trips stuff.. i get inspired to like write even more and gets me to actually write better.. but damn after reading this.. i realized.. i did better lyrically before because i use to write to songs without the beat than I added the lyrics to the beat.. because you can get better lines out that way.. but now i just write while listening to the beat which i believe i should stop doing *sighs*

i write then add it to the beat..if it dont fit i subract words and revise it..maily i hear the beat and then freestlye to it then i catch the hot bas and write them down..but i gotta memorize all my lyrics and then spit them to a beat cuz man when i read it of the page i fuck up lol i got sloppy handwriting

anyway, I write about shit I do and see in the hood. I fight alot, see niggas fightin alot. I get money alot, see niggas gettin money alot. So thats what I rap about. I sell weed, but I dont rap about it, I mention it in 1 song, but otherwise that, nope, I dont talk about that.
I rap about bitches sometimes, all depends if Im in some pussy that I really REALLY like.

sometimes i can be listening to a track that just gets me fired up and makes me wanna write

my rhymes are more poetic when i write without a beat but a lot of people are too dumb to understand shit that deep so from a business perspective i guess i really should dumb down my shit sometimes, but on the other hand that would take away my individuality so i don't.

and yeh sometimes i subtract words but sometimes its possible to vary the flow in such a way that you can keep the words and retain the intended effect of having them...
