Are Open Mic NIghts at clubs/bars a good way to start
 

and gain performing experience/exposure?



Normally when I think of Open Mic I think of poetry...But, I imagine that there are some you could perform at.




Are they a good idea?

This record shop in my area does an open mic every week for all the rap-
heads. I remember seeing a lot of kids start out and now they are mad dope.

It is a good way to gain experience, and to just build up you confidance.

Def a good way to gain experience in stage performance and they can give you exposure to an entent, but it really depends how good you are..

If you attend these things and your only decent, ofcouse beyond experience you wont gain a whole lot... But if you can seriously make people go nuts over your raps, style and how you carry yourself overall... Then its def a way to get some fans...

But you needa be doing a hell of a lot more than just hanging round open mic nights if you wanna actually get somewhere with rap.

best way to start performin is open mics... help build ur stage confidence and help u find your stage character n presence... jus start wit em n wen u feel u found ur niche as far as bein stage goes... start doin ur full sets.... and critic you talkin about deal real????? i heard nuff bout it... my mate mr manage goes alot.. heard nuff tings bout it

it depends where you do your open mic nite.

It mite be a rough crowd and if you stutter at all or mess up a little some people aint very forgiving

if u mess up.. u just keep goin like nuttin happened n less people notice u messed up n ppl will respect u due to the fact didnt let it it effect u

everybody messes up at sum point... its part of performin... ive seen sum the most famous mess up but they keep goin and u dnt really notice... eminem for one at a concert.. he fuked his breath control up on one track and fell waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind the beat but mhe didnt let it effect him n pulled it bak

i suppose thats real talent or real balls.

Mind you to someone of eminems stature if he fucks up, he wouldnt care. I wouldnt if i was as big as him.

But if your small and no one has heard of you, you mess up it could make you look real silly

Sorry, I dont keep up with the 'whos who' on the internet rap scene... This is the only site I am at... I honestly get frustrated with all the stupidity that wofts around on these type of sites... So yeah....

You aint heard music from me because I am broke without a computer that can record (no soundcard). I rap live locally... Closer to christmas I'll have a demo compleated which I have connections that can hook me up contracts as long as I get my indie shit together.

BTW, concearning live performance... I dont screw up... I have been known to wake up after 2 hours sleep, still half out of it.. And instantly jump into a good performance.. Thats nothing egotistical... Thats just the way I am... Deal with it.
