Anyone here ever have Shin splints?
yea, I got that shit. And I only got till next Monday for it to heal, and I doubt that will happen. :( Cuz basketball try-outs are on Monday, so I was wondering if anyone had it, how you treated yourself, and how long did shit take?

I got the posteromedial on both legs :( and i had pain since like beginnin' of this month, and i only got it checked like this weekend, so I think i had it before, and I continued runnin' on it, and Iunno i could even have gotten a stress fracture which would fuckin' suck.. this would be how the stress fracture looks: ![]() so yea, somebody help me out if you could. thanks pc. *goes to ice legs* :( |
yeah, i got those all season whenever i would play soccer in middle school and whatnot... but now all i play is hockey for school and i dont get em in hockey cuz its not running, so i guess it doesnt cause the same kind of stress

Take some heavy duty pain relievers before tryouts. If you take a really cold bath before, then the pain will subside for a little bit.

yeah, ice-bath would work... if u can get a shit load of ice, like it has to be alot, and put it in a full tub then get in it... yes it will hurt like hell b/c its so cold, but if u sit in there for like 10-15 minutes itll numb it for tryouts...

pain killers is the worst thing you could recommend if you plan to take em just before you play, cause you could doin suicides and shit and the condition of ur legs could be worsening but you wouldnt even know because you cant feel the pain...i always got hella sore right below my knee-caps and the calf muscle on the outside of my leg when i played basketball

^Yea, we do A LOT of suicides. last yr, it was like almost 100 times we had to run up the court, doin' suicides and other runnin' drills. coach was former assistant coach of Vermont a few yrs ago. he like "It's typical for someone to leave one of my try-outs to throw up. =/

1. Don't work through the pain. At best, shin splints won't get better and at worst, you'll be setting the stage for a more serious injury. At the first symptoms of shin splints, stay off your feet, or at the very least, decrease your mileage.
2. Ice shins. Ice is the treatment of choice for reducing the inflammation of any sports injury, and shin splints are no exception. Massage shins with water that's been frozen in a foam or paper cup for 10 minutes at a time, up to four times a day for a week or two. You can also try icing shins splints with a bag of frozen vegetables, such as peas or corn kernels. 3. Tape it. Taping up your shin with an Ace bandage or with a neoprene sleeve that fits over the lower leg may be comforting for shin splints, because it compresses the muscles and permits less muscle movement. 4. Take two aspirin. Over-the-counter analgesics, such as aspirin and ibuprofen (the ingredient found in Advil and Motrin-IB), are very effective in relieving the pain of shin splints. These medications bring down the swelling and inflammation that may come with these injuries. Acetominophen, the ingredient found in Tylenol and Anacin-3, may ease the pain, but they probably won't do much for inflammation caused by shin splints. Women who are pregnant or nursing a baby, as well as sensitive individuals, should check with their physicians before taking any medications. 5. Try an athletic insole. Since shin splints often arise as a result of excessive pounding, a padded insole placed inside the shoe may help soften the blow as your foot lands on hard ground. 6. Tune in to your body. If your shin hurts, rest it, ice it, or talk with your doctor about it. 7. Stay off the cement. Exercise on forgiving surfaces such as a running track, crushed gravel, and grass. If you have to run on roads, try to choose streets paved in asphalt rather than concrete to reduce the likelihood of developing shin splints. If you do aerobics, stay away from cement floors, even those that are carpeted. Suspended wood floors are best. 8. Cross train. One way to give rest to shin splints without cutting out exercise altogether is to switch to another type of activity. If you're a runner, add some swimming, stationary cycling, or other activities that don't tax your shins as much as running. 9. Don't run on hills. Running up and down hills may contribute to or aggravate shin splints. 10. Prevent the injury from occurring in the first place. Always warm up before exercising. Doing so relaxes the muscles and gets blood flowing to the tissues. Warm muscles are less likely than cold muscles to be injured. Warm up with a few minutes of walking or gentle stretching. ^what some site said. for treatments of shin splints. |
Being a cross country runner... we always get shin splints...
Cold water is a myth... really it doesn't help shit once your putting pressure on it... That would be a bad thing (pain killers) The best thing... find someone who can tape up your shins... that's the best thing to do. Run through it... pain makes you stronger. (Icy/Hot works tho) |
oh and learn how to run correctly... and #1 is bullshit... real men work through it.

It isn't the smart thing to do, but pain killers will work without a doubt. Go the healthy way though.

Ya, well eventually you could break your shin, but it all depends. Talk to your coach and see if there is a way for you to try out later or somethin.

Keep hitting it so you forget about the original pain you had =/ lol jk idk, ask the coach if you could do it like a week later, if not then they're fuckin gay, they should let you off for a while cuz you have an injury.

im a fat nigga. but i wasnt ever out of shape. right now, due to my lack of sports, im like 6'0 230 lbs. i turned 15 in july and shit, but back when i was 13, i was like 5'9 200 lbs but i was a beast on the basketball court just natural talent that i honed, i guess but yea, all that weight moving at high speeds like that, and even just at that high rate of movement wasn't good for a nigga legs yo, yahm sayin i had shin splints, and all that, just from being a big nigga who was real active. like it says, you shouldnt run on cement period. if you shouldnt do it period, try doing it adding more weight. i used to play alot of streetball. over the past year i said fuck it, and started smokin mad tree but yea back then i wouldn't be too bad once im moving, and shit, cus of adrenaline, and just activeness i guess gettin the blood flowing but after games and shit, id go home and rest and then i'd go try to get up in the middle of the night to piss, and damn near bust my ass cus the pain was that bad i just played through it though eventually it got better, or i got used to it. who knows. but your a pretty frail nigga you shouldn't be too bad. just ice it when you can, wrap it good, and go out and make the fuckin team ock. i dont know about you, but im a warrior. well, i mean i was. i'd play through any injury. nah mean. some niggas say your stupid if you do, but it just shows who got the most heart. don't miss the tryouts cus of it, unless the pain is EXCRUCIATING. if a big nigga like me did it, rabbit ass SPuL should be cool. |

just put ice on it everyday untill your try-outs and on the day of your try-outs put icy-hot (its a cream) it will sooth your leg while puttin the finishing touches on your healing process.....i got shin splints in football....also there is a special sock u can wear...they are real long and they have like a pad on the fron and they squeeze your shin real hard and it feels like new because its like holding everything 2-gether untill u take the sock off
