Intimadation is nothing. Just remember, when you are walking on the otherside of the fairway, going to your ball, and wondering why i havent said nothing to you since we got to the course, and wondering how you gonna make up the 6 stroke lead that i have on you with only 8 holes to go. Thats intimadation. When your stuggling to hit a good shot cause your too busy waiting for me to mess up and i dont.

I've played against people who simply DON'T MAKE MISTAKES....like, if u don't get up on them, they won't come back down to you...

The best way to beat them is to take advantage early on...Get up on them early...Out drive em...Out hit em...w/e...Use gamesmanship on the green to intimidate them...man...I got so many tricks of the trade I'm NOT EVEN gonna go there...Im sure u know alot of them though if ur an avid golfer

Example...I can hit a nice approach shot to 6-8 feet, then act upset like I made a mistkae... That = Intimidating to some opponents

Example...I can drive the ball a MILE and then act like I mishit it...that = Intimidating to some opponents

Example...I can make my putt, fist pump, and then walk off before my opponent finishes...that = disconcerting

man...the list goes on of the things I've picked up over the years as to how to out-psyche my opponents

But...ur right...it all comes down to executing the shots and making the putts...

G Deuce 12-12-05 02:35 PM

And this is why those stretigic moves dont work

Example...I can hit a nice approach shot to 6-8 feet, then act upset like I made a mistkae... That = Intimidating to some opponents
actually, not really intimating. Expecially if your (a) putting for par, (b) putting for your first birdie in the round, or (c) was behind some trees and didnt have any shot to get it on the green

Example...I can drive the ball a MILE and then act like I mishit it...that = Intimidating to some opponents
seeing that i already know you hit it a mile, and I hit it a mile, I will know if you miss hit it or not because of the sound it makes on the club. Thats from years of hitting the same driver that you have, lol

Example...I can make my putt, fist pump, and then walk off before my opponent finishes...that = disconcerting
no that's just plain horrible, especially if you just made a birdie to tie wit me. Now, i have you exactly where i want you. You are hyped about your last birdie that you fail to realize how calm and collective i am. So walking to the next tee wit honors, and while you are still concerned with that birdie you just made, you wift one out of bounds, lol. Ive seen that too many times

But yea, it all comes down to your strategy.

^^Ur last one is true...the adrenaline...That's why when Im excited like that, I literally move in SLOW MOTION...but, since my adrenaline is pumping, it's actually normal pace...

Those examples I gave are obviously dependent on a lot of conditions and who you play against...There are certain people I play regularly at my local course that certain things work on and don't...

My demeanor on the course is really focused and confident...I've kind of adopted Tiger's approach cuz I like it...I'm also very emotional on the course...But...I've learned to temper that and use it at the right times...When I feel momentum shifting to my opponent, I stay calm and remind myself that I KNOW HOW TO HIT GOOD SHOTS and that EVERY DOG HAS GOT HIS DAY...Then, all I need it ONE INCH, ONE INCH DAWG, and I'm in there...

There's one guy I played this summer who I've never been able to beat. Now, from looking at his game and looking at mine, I should be able to beat him EASILY. THe thing is, he doesn't make mistakes often, even though I have a better overall short game than he does...His iron shots are better than mine...Therefore, he plays "BORING" golf...fairway...GREEN...fairway..GREEN...he doesn't make as many putts as I do...But, when Ur constantly putting for birdies and pars, u tend to make more pars than someone who chips in for birdie...then makes a few bogies trying to drive greens...etc...

I play BIG...I play hard...and in golf, it's about temperance some times...controlled aggression...

The last time I play dude, I SHUD HAVE beat him by 3 shots...But, after a 280 yard stripe down the middle of the 17th hole, I hit my approach shot over the green and into some bushes...I had to take an unplayable lie and hit a penalty shot...I hit that one over the green and then 3 putted...THAT KILLED MY CHANCES

I lost to him by 1 shot. He's the kind of player that brings the best out in you because he's focused...thing is, I TAKE too many chances on the course to play consistently sometimes...That's gonna be one of my goals for 06...

G Deuce 12-12-05 02:54 PM

Of course, we both have adopted a tiger woods approach. I know how to control my adrenline, but thats something that you cant learn by reading books. I remember when i was struggling to beat my uncle, who was the one to teach me golf, for years. I could hit it past him, i could hit it closer than him, but when it was all said and done, he would shoot a 77, and I would shoot a 79. Or he would shoot a 79, and i would shoot an 80. So when i finally realized how to beat him, i became a better, and smarter golfer. You have to play the course, not your opponents, when you look at it this way, it makes golf a whole lot easier. Some people may see a long par 5 and think, "I can reach it in two." I see a long par 5 and see trees on both sides, a sandtrap on the right of the fairway about 330 down. The green is elvated with a slight break from right to left. We have a 10 mile wind from left right. So I'm going with a 3 wood hitting a slight draw that will bore into the wind to the left of the fairway about 270. From there, i hit a 3 iron pass the trap on the right to give me a 130 knockdown pitching wedge to the hole to give me a straight uphill putt.

Actually, you CAN learn it from reading books, but you have to apply it through practice and experience...And yes, I agree, it's about playing the course, esp. when it's stroke play...The reason I had my BEST SEASON every this past summer is because I changed my way of thinking...I used to go out and say "Today, I want to shoot 75 or 77 and make 3 birdies." That's RIDICULOUS. If you could CALL SCORES, then why not just say, TODAY, IMMA SHOOT A 59!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead, I adopted the attitude of, "Today, I'm going to apply the solid fundamentals I've ingrained in my game, and have fun." As a result, I shot ever par for the first time and birdied 3 holes out of 9...

And...get this...I've been using the interlockin grip for YEARS dawg...I began experimenting with the overlapping grip toward the end of this season and it's worked wonders...It's allowed me to shape the ball better and chip/putt better...

I plan to use the overlapping grip all next season...

I'm also giving myself an advantage over 80% of golfers by maintaining a workout regimen that focuses on the golf muscles...

I'm tellin u dawg...next seaon, it's ON

G Deuce 12-12-05 03:07 PM

yea, i use the interlock on full swings, and the reverse overlap with my putter and sometimes on the side of greens. Ok, this season it will be on. And bring your A game, cause i expect nothing less. And i will show you how exactly us winter golfers get down.

Vango 12-12-05 03:08 PM

lol @ winter golfers...I was out last week in the freezin cold...

only reason I wasn't out this weekend was because the courses are shut down (snow)

and YSDAT...GDeuce is a 4...I'm a 10 handicap

I plan to get that into single digits this season...before it's over

G Deuce 12-12-05 03:10 PM

I would say mine is about 2 or 3, but i havent played since the summer, cause of school/transportation reasons. But shit, i practice in my dorm room all the time.

word...

the one thing that's gonna lower my handicap this season is my dedication to alignment and ball position

I'm tellin u dawg...60-70% of all bad shots are due to alignment and aim

I use the traditional alignment station in the house...

OH...and I'm experimenting with the reverse overlap for putting as well...I'm still not sold on it...I'm struggling with ball position on putting...Imma have that worked out by next season though

G Deuce 12-12-05 03:22 PM

yea, alignment is the key : shoulders, knees, feet, hips, and your head determines where the ball goes. Yea, i got that "Leaderbetter Swing Guide" thing where you have a mat with a beam that you connect to the end of your club. And you match the beam with the arch on the mat to get the "inside approach" to help you roll over your hands and develop a draw. My uncle used it more than me cause his natural swing was a strong fade( which i called a slice that he wont admit -_-). But it helped him out more than me, cause my natural ball flight is a slight draw anyway. It just helped me develop better ball control.

word...I saw that Leadbetter contraption on TV...I'm left handed, so my natural tendency is to hit a draw (cut spin) to the left...When I'm playing well, it's a nice controlled draw...When I'm playing poorly, it's a weak push or a slice...

My problem with alignment is with my shoulders...It's more important to have your shoulders aligned correctly than yoiur feet because shoulders determine where the ball goes more than feet...though, Ideally you want EVERYTHING aligned properly...

I've learned to work my irons in both directions...

I haven't learned to control a fade with the woods yet...I can hit a hell-u-va power cut though...and control the direction of it

a hook for me is normally out of bounds...crazy though...I know the distance I want lies in a controlled hook...that gives u more roll and raw distance than a cut

but yea man...I know you know all this, I, just excited to actually have someone to talk to about it

Personify 12-12-05 03:37 PM

Bet I can beat you on those machines though. I use to play those 5 times a week. I miss eating out. :(

Golf is the shit, I just started playing a couple yrs ago. I'm addicted, I just got a new driver the other day as an early xmas present. I can drive the shit out the ball and putt well, but I struggle with my short irons and with my pitching around the green. Shit I wish I was a 10 handicap, but I'm going to get there.
