What is it with RV Audio Heads and Effects?

Seriously. I just listened to a bunch of tracks since i can now im at college. And shit, some of you go over the top.

Why. I dont get it.

L. Veracity 01-04-06 09:00 AM

depends on who you're talking about...

some people use more effects because their quality is bad and it clears up your vocals, just uses effects on 'em as well as a result of the initial "efects"...it all depends on the kind of song, the beat and so on N so on...you can't really just say too many people be ODin' on effects in general like that

distilled 01-04-06 09:01 AM

I mean like an extreme amount of reverb, or too many ad libs, or anything thats as loud as the verse.

I dunno, it just ruins a couple of songs.

Ambient 01-04-06 09:11 AM

Yeah, i think its to cover the fact of bad quality and try and make it sound a little more "professional".

leady 01-04-06 12:08 PM

what ppl dont realise, pre-sets are a huge no no

nd wat works for sum ppl doesnt work for others... reverb actually doesnt work with my voice, there is only the odd beat here n there that ive needed to use an extremely light reverb to help it blend better.... ive also noticed most ppl here cant EQ for shit.

but i kno wat u mean distilled... i hate listening to a song only to hear like a robot or a million echoes rapping and hearing the reverb from 2 - 3 lines before where i am

BigTony.Self 01-04-06 12:23 PM

u think its bad now??????? lmfaoo maaaaan kids back in the day used to straight synth there voices cuz they were afraid of there own voices being heard of .........but all in all i think alot of kids try and find there mixing nitch hear something now that sounds good ...only to listen a month from now and see they overdosed it

Tha Q. 01-04-06 12:29 PM

I've always said people use too much Reverb and Echo on vocals

I don't use reverb on anything except Chorus vocals

For my verses, I use my bare voice and jus DUB the voice...only processin is with Noise Redux and EQ to raise the 16k

tiz all

u dont compress ur vocals??? u need compression to stop vocal volume fluctuating... i dont really reverb anything(really depends on the beat)

even my hooks arent reverbed... i do 2 takes and put them over each other, pan 1 to the left n one to the right(usually 80 each way) match the volumes up and then do overdubs

shhut up distilled. :(

distilled 01-04-06 09:18 PM

Exactly Leady.

And Q sometimes dubbing sounds just as bad. You dont need to sound like your rapping twice, in an empty arena. Vocals can do just fine a lot of the time

leady 01-04-06 09:34 PM

EVERY song has over-dubs.... but, sum make them more noticeable than others, jus cos u dnt allways hear them dnt mean they aint there

but most people here dont know how to align properly and arent willing to put in the time to do it properly

TeamOne 01-04-06 09:51 PM

distilled wat did u think of my dubbin and shit???? over done or wat?

And Leady depends what you mean by overdubs. Cos desk wise the why i speak it, every track doesnt have overdubs.

some do yea, it's really just the little things that change the sound good. some cats over do it. but really some effects only sound good on special tracks depending on how you want your track to hit. ya know, but a lot of people go over on with the ecko's I noticed.

distilled 01-04-06 10:36 PM

Then theres people liek you, that just flat out suck.

over-dubs, like recording lines n phrases to back up the main vocals and put more emphasis on certain parts

Ohhhhh, you mean ad libs. I get ya.

You dont always need em tho. Emotional verses go much better without a lot of the time.

leady 01-05-06 07:56 PM

adlibs are different.. u know wen u listen to a track n u hear the shouting n sound effects in the background of verses e.t.c thats an adlib

distilled 01-05-06 08:02 PM

Isnt that what you just said.

When you hear stuff like a gun shot/helicopter etc, that aint an ad lib.

When you say a word at the end of a bar to back it up, or somehing to do with whatever you just said. thats an ad lib.

leady 01-05-06 08:25 PM

thats an overdub not an adlib... trust me, ask producers n shit who make a damn good living from what they do

overdubs are like what eminem always does...where he says certain words twice at the same time to put more emphasis on them...

adlibs are like when young jeezy always goes "yeeeeeeeeah" in the background while hes rapping...

errrrm, nah.

Depends how ou talk. If your overdubbing in the studio, it has to with bus the signal coming through one channel to another channel, and overdubbing it.

That 'Yeeaaaah' Is Young Jeezy's version of ad libs. If you rap it allagain its overdubbing, but picking a word and sayin shit about it. Thats adlibs.
