I'm a rather helpful person. It's not in my nature to turn someone away when I know I have the ability to help them. So, over the past 6 months, I've been helping mad cats on this board with one aspect or another of their audios. Whether it's editing or lyrics, I've helped a lot of the audio heads on this site. Well, I was thinkin about it and came to a conclusion. Most cats who IM me only want something or the other. I mean, what ever happened to being cordial and just saying "WASSUP." I'm not a tutor and I'm DEF. not an expert on Cool Edit. So, I don't really get why I get 1000000000 IMs asking me technical questions about one thing or the other. I don't mind most of it. But, it gets tiresome when you get 1000 IMs in the same night askin "Q, why doesn't my mic work." I DON'T KNOW. In a sense, I take it as a compliment that people feel they can come to me. But, on the other hand, I feel I can't turn to these same people and ask for audio help, or advice. People like Apexx and some others have superior equipment to mine. So, I can't really ask him for editing advice and how to improve quality. I figure I need someone with comparable equipment who has superior quality so I can learn from them.


yea...I know...no real point to this thread...But, I wish there were more advanced audio heads on this site so people like myself can elevate more.

A: If it's productive and you enjoy it, why should you NOT feel good about it? It works for you - who cares if it dosen't for someone else - they're them, and you're you! Why convince your self of the opinion of someone who's not benefiting, when you're benefiting?

B: Why couldn't you ask someone with "superior equipment" a question? I'd figure that'd be the person you'd want to ask if anything - because I assure you, the only difference in choosing one piece of equipment or another is knowledge (unless you're a lemming and blindly follow others words without your own research or decisions). So what does that person know that made them get that better piece of equipment? Once you ask that question, the answers that usually roll out are "oh, because I have a long history with busted mics that I initally felt were fantastic, but as my knowledge grew (which only comes through realizing the sound that X mic simply can not give you), I realized that I had to move on. And here's what I found out...And here's what made that situation better...". Ask Swizz Beatsor Rizza why they don't produce on a radioshack keyboard - you'll find out REAL fast what they know.

I'll be the first to drop the veil and admit that a pro sounding set up is never plug and play EVER. Ive invested about 7-9 hrs so far just tuning the baseline settings on a mic that's the best in its category for a vocalist like my self. This is the norm! Every mic I've gotten that has more ability than the prior one has taken me more and more time to tune before I can even lay my first bar. By comparison, my first mic took me about 15-20minutes! ALL studio mics are designed to be tuned specifically to the voice and speech patterns of the intended user - even the mother of all mics, the Neuman U-87.

P.S. People felt I had 'superior equipment' to them (Their big budget name brand mic and ProTools) when all I had was a $19.99 Radioshack mic and a freeware audio program. The advantage? Knowledge. It's really not about the equipment. It's about what you can do wit the equipment. Just ask any amusical innovator, like Sebastian Bach or Jimmy Hendricks.

I know you're pseudo-serious. The pseudo part is entertaining, it's the serious part that concerns me, lol. Not for nothing mayne, but I heard your mixing skills...and I definitely wouldn't say it's "right for your vocals" seeing that I know they can be way better using the identical equipment that you have lol. Unless by "right" you mean "fuck-it, this is good enough and realistically about as hard as I'm willin to work to make my own voice sound good".
