Lockness...

Come tell everyone what you told me thru PM.....

define metaphour for us Lock...

locknes 03-02-06 06:31 PM

ok a metaphor is one class of things is referred to as if it belonged to another class. Whereas a simile states that A is like B, a metaphor states that A is B or substitutes B for A.

Metaphor is an expression which CAN be used to refer to somthin, doesnt neccessarily mean it literally has to suggest similarity, but it doesnt mean that it doesnt either.

locknes 03-02-06 06:42 PM

correction metaphor is a comparison
and a simlie is a comparison using like or as

Dirty Nigga 03-02-06 06:44 PM

i wasn't sayin that u had to be literal but u cant use like and as

Dirty Nigga 03-02-06 06:58 PM

But ''Like'' would suggest a resmblence...which is a metaphor.

locknes 03-02-06 07:02 PM

if i where to say (his brain is a computer)< metaphor
(his brain is like a computer)< simlie

Dirty Nigga 03-02-06 07:03 PM

....Hmmmm.

Thats not a metaphor at all.

JTR 03-02-06 07:03 PM

Metaphor: Josh pounced on the loose ball like a tiger.

Similie: Josh can't miss today, he's a machine.

i its a poetic rule i didnt make it but thats the way it is and has been
if u use other words
for example

(life is parallel to a cell )< metaphor
(life is similar to a cell) < metaphor
(life is like a cell)< simlie
(life is as if you where in a cell) < simlie

like and as are ruled out and will always be ruled out

buddy its the other way around

Dirty Nigga 03-02-06 07:11 PM

Its not the other way around tho.

locknes 03-02-06 07:12 PM

yes it is because your making a similar comparison hense the name simlie

locknes 03-02-06 07:17 PM

metaphor
you say one thing is another. like if you said 'my style is gravity', that's a metaphor. your style = gravity.

simile
when you say something is 'like' something or 'as' ... as something. if you said 'got honeys like sand on the beach' that's a simile, (lots of) girls = (lots of) sand on the beach

even check the totrials because ive been writing poetry since i was 13years of age and thats what everyone of my teacher say
