Problem with the youth/punishing children.
 

I want to know what everyone thinks about why our youth seems to be getting worse and worse.

I personally think it's because of televison. I know it sounds elementary, and old fashioned...but seriously...

I grew up watching full house, i don't know why...but I did. And even a show is simple and "innocent" as that, is full of drama, and instills the idea that as a child...you can have the last word, walk away....and get your parents to feel sorry for you.
It doesn't fuckin work like that, rarely ever is a childs rationale better than an adults.
And to tell our children that we are supposed to treat them like adults..and see everything through there eyes is a joke....I watched dysfunctional family(a movie where eddie griffin does sandup about his life....one of the funniest movies i've ever seen)
and he talks about how his mom beat him, but thats what kept his ass out of prison.
I think that's true. I think children have to have a healthy fear and respect for there parents, and adults in general. And it's fucked, because the more children talk back, the less control we have. Children have more laws protecting them, than we have protecting us from our children. When yet children are the ones who are getting the idea through television, that they need to stand up to there parents.
If children were capable of saying..."Okay, this is how i feel, this is why i'm upset...i want to know how you feel about it" and than parents could explain everything successfuly, it would be different..but like i said....a childs rationale and logic just can't comprehend anything outside of their world.

Media definetly has a strong effect. They just ran out of ways to controll the kidsI guess. They used santa clause and religion already and now they don't know what to do. I honestly think the youth has been demoralized, but I don't think there's much we can do after they're 'gone'. :(

It isn't a rap website. It's a hip hop web site....hip hop being a culture, and the youth are a part of every culture in the world. If i want to rap, or battle, I'll go to those threads. You should do the same.

Yeah indeph. They ran out of ways, because of the white trash fuckin trailer fags that beat there kids...and don't teach them moral values...and 90% of the time beat them, because there high on some sort of amphetamine. I feel like with the media controlling how my kid's going to act. I almost have to use the rod to discipline my child, and let them know...pain and love is real...what's on t.v isn't. Unfortunately, around here. You even attempt that....a child can call child services..and have your ass arrested, and lose custody of your child/ren.

I also think factor, is the idea that most americans don't have any sense of history or culture....especially white people..most of us have virtually no sense of history or culture beyond america, and the media feeds on that absense of presence and self.

Well some parents take it too far, you have to truly know human nature and how the mind works to raise a child. The smallest subliminal can completly change a kid.

Yeah, some parents do take it too far. and you're exactly right. The slightest hint of anger, for anything...can completely warp a childs mind into believing something, when in reality...that anger was out of frusteration for something completely different.
You need a balance of everything, you also need to understand personality. Allow the child to grow into it's own person..without forcing your own beliefs on him/her...by expressing yourself to them, without being over bearing... to help them shape there own ideals without feeling like there going to be resented.
They need to know punishment is a result of disobediance...and disobediance doesn't involve thinking for themselves.

Honestly, I grew up watching violent shows, I just knew better then to immitate them. It's the parents that determine a kid, my folks taught me not to imitate anything that I see unless my parents said it was ok, and that had a huge influence on my morals. Now I make my own decisions, but I still refer to what they taught me.

Yeah, the difference is though, is it's shown that a child can constantly talk back on television, and get the last word..and make there parents feel bad....and they see that as having nothing but good consequences....where as, violence, and things of that nature, always have the possibility of extreme negative consequence...so a child sees that and says hey, i don't know if that's wrong..but i don't want that to happen to me...where as when it comes to talking back, and trying to make your parent feel bad...kids see that and say hey, thats acceptable, i'm going to do that because it virtually has no negative consequence


even the most wholesome of shows portray this...so i think it's very important you stress that even those shows are fantasy, and thats not how shit is gonna work

growin up i watched tv n shit, n neither tv or my parents really made me who i am n shit, i made my own decicions scence i wuz little.

n tha problem wif kids iznt tv at all, thats just fucking stupid. its tha parents, they need 2 punish tha kid, or they'll have no reason 2 not do sumthin. wen i wuz growin up i learned not 2 piss my parents off, if i interupted them or talked back, i got slapped/hit in tha face. ive had my dad lift me outta my chair by my throat wile he yelled at me, telling me how no matter wut i do i always fuck it up, n that i'll never do anythang right n shit like that. wen i wuz 5 i remember he wuz mad at me cuz i didnt wanna take these eye drops i had, so he punched a hole thru tha wall a couple inches frum my face wen i wuz layin in bed. n they screamed n yelled at me n shit always. thats tha reason y i wouldnt do shit if i thought there wuz a good chance of gittin caught. they treated me like shit growin up, ive hated my moms scence i wuz 7, wif a fucking passion, i fucking hate her. n i dont feel comfortable around my dad, if we're in tha car alone, could b fo an hour, we wont talk once tha whole time. so i think parents DO gotta punish theyre kids n shit, but they gotta b careful 2 not b TOO hard on them. werd

The bible says every generation grows wickeder and wiser. From a logistical standpoint, kids are getting "worse and worse" because they aren't being required to own up to their actions. Anyone here approaching 25 or older was raised differently from people who are 16 or younger. I know my mother used to force me to do math problems and read books even during vacation. How many parents take the time to make sure kids do their normal school work, let alone require them to go above and beyond? That's the difference. Kids today don't see the relevance of respecting those who came before them. It explains how some arrogant kid could disparage one of the greats of hip hop and then have the nerve to call himself a rapper.

eh ehh...The funny thing is, we'll be having this discussion in another 10-15 years about the next generation.
