Anyone here ever done "Slam Poetry"?
 

Because we're having a Slam Poetry contest at school on June 5th. We just saw a video on it today and it's pretty fuckin ill; picture rap, minus worrying about flow, plus being WAY more abstract, plus acting and minus having to rhyme every bar.

slam is ill as fuck, a buddy of mine's brother is on the canadian national slam team. amazing wordsmiths.

You can do whatever kind of poetry you want, I could rap for sure, it's just that this is SUPPOSED to be a different kind of thing (as far as I've seen), it doesn't have to be that way.

Just pull a Jay-Z..... bite some ill lyrics and just say "Im not a biter im a writer, when I say a big line im only biggin up my brother" replace big with any artist you use.. case solved...

Slam is dope... If you listen to artists like Alias, Sole, Sixtoo, or Dose One alot of times their tracks are actually more like Slam poetry than traditional rap. I like spoken word better myself, Slam is cool but all the pieces are super agressive. So sometimes if I'm in a mellow mood I'll be more apt to listen to spoken word over Slam. But, Slam is dope none the less. You should sign up.
