So is doing crack but that doesn't stop people.

Pay to play.

Nynth Degree 06-26-06 12:49 PM

Blow up, start appearing all over TRL, and you won't have to do anything to get your record played.

TitoBronsky 06-26-06 01:01 PM

you gotta get your tape in the hands of Radio personalities.... e-mail them.... nagg them... call them.... the squeaky wheel gets the oil.... Persistence overcomes resistence.... your gonna get more No's than yes's.... but thats the game....

you know

Konvict_NYC 06-26-06 01:15 PM

I agree with tito......

Compose 06-26-06 01:20 PM

pay them which is what a lot of them do nowadays anyway, or land a deal with one of the biggest labels and convince them you're worth being paid for

∆ P E X X 06-26-06 02:21 PM

pay them = not gonna work since...you're nobody. You won't even get close to the person you need to.

nag them = not gonna work since...you're nobody. And one of a million nobodies that call daily.

I know the answer lol...but I'm not gonna tell ya since you're a cock sucker and an ingrate.

But here's a hint: it takes more than one person. A lot more. And the program director is NOT the person you need to talk to.[/good-deed-for-an-asshole for this week]

Apexx, tell that second point to the thousands of emerging writers a year...it's a matter of talent and a good deal of luck, is it not? Just like submitting to an agent or a publisher, you need to have a good presentable resume/query letter, short and sweet, to tell shit like prior performances if you have any, what type of people would like your music, and an example or two of your songs...that is, if you're e-mailing them. You can do the same thing on the phone, telling them why they should promote a nobody.

TitoBronsky 06-26-06 03:04 PM

basicly.... a well put together press kit.... coupled with goodluck..... and perserverance

chronix 06-26-06 03:06 PM

Get them to pay attention...they're not gonna pay attention to you just because your saying you've done x amount of shows, n' you appeal to _____ kind of people. Get people to call in for your shit...not just one or two friends, I MEAN A LOT of people. Pester them outside the building with people chanting they wantyour song etc. But there's barely any point of getting played on the radio in itself because of the time you'll probably get played...your better off trying to get oppurtunities to perform, handing out your tapes to dj's etc. Then maybe when you built somewhat of a name try n get on the radio.

Sadly my friend, to a radio station, your stats your pictures, what ever projects and preformances you have out etc are all but irrelevant. the only thing a station is interested in is listens or "ratings". There is a high strategy that goes into making it on the radio, as well as into a label hands, or to any other point in the music industry. truth be told there really isn't much "luck" involved. The "luck" is in getting someone that's important to your cause to make the time to listen to your music. If you got selected....it's not because of luck.

believe me.

if you don't, it doesn't mean you don't have skills. The person listening could love your music and just can't do anything with it. You're just not what they're looking for. And this applies to any mainstream music outlet, be it a label, a station, a venue, anything.

Crazy Hades 06-26-06 07:44 PM

Well, logically you'd think that if you were able to get performances in major places or whatever and the turnout was decent, and they see that you have enough listeners, there would be a better chance that you could find the bigger producers and they would pay attention...which would put you a step ahead of the others who have done nothing worth mentioning. My mindstate was it's the same thing...in writing, you have to struggle to find a good publisher/agent out there, and you have to attract their attention --- and with the high supply of manuscripts (aka songs in this case), they're looking for people who have prior experience and could make their job easier. It's easy to assume the same rules would apply, and having people chant your name would in a good deal of cases put you in a bad position because that editor/agent/radio man gets hundreds of requests and having people constantly scream at them to play so-and-so, you'd think that person would be agitated.

You do have to admit I had a legitimate case...the similarities of getting yourself out there are astounding:

1. Both are constantly flooded with requests.
2. Both spend long amounts of time on going through these requests.
3. Both get thousands of amateur requests and they get agitated, and if they're in a bad mood from all these idiots submitting to them, they'll be picky at things like people calling them over and over.
4. Both are looking for a positive profit from the requests they do endorse: a good amount of listeners for a song, or a good amount of sales for a book.

So it's a logical mistake to make that they would both go by the same basic code of conduct. But, you're the one with the experience in the music industry.

.TeamOne. 06-26-06 11:49 PM

buy a radio station?

Ysdat 06-27-06 12:01 AM

lol @ pay them to play it.

fuck that, just have connections. Youl be suprised who knows cats at radios.

or simply go to the radio station and be like, what up, im here. listen, play it.

The worst they can say is no.

Or

simply create a independant fanbase in your area, get support tell them to request the song, all in time with you emailing them with your song and shit.

And

Im sure in the US they have unsigned hype nights on certain stations, we do in NZ. So yeh, get at them.

∆ P E X X 06-27-06 06:00 PM

^^hate to bust your bubble but nearly every song you hear on a mainstream station is there because someone paid for it. Peoples careers are built on it. it's called payola and it's common pratice.

J Bee 06-27-06 06:07 PM

ive never heard a good rap song on our local rap station. all 50 cent and what not.

no you don't. or else you wouldn't have said what you said. But thanks for playing "who wants to look smart but really don't know shit".

"talent" lol, talent doesn't have jack shit to do with the music business man. Mike Jones is a multimillionaire.
