what some people need to realise about hip hop.
i know alot of u allready agree with what im about to say(or atleast to an extent) but this is for those who are too dumb to realise it.
hip hop was created as expression of self, it was not created to drop catchy hooks to get millions of 13 year old girls to sing along with. you need to realise the difference between rap music(50 cent shit like that) and hip hop(krs one, dilated peoples, roots e.t.c). you also need to realise we can say anything we want about anybody(mainstream or underground) why??? cos its personal opinion, but not only that, saying we cant talk about mainstream rappers is false... we cant say anything cos theyre rich???? fame and fortune means nothing in the REAL world of hip hop(im talkin real hip hop not hip POP). anybody can make a song with 1 syllable rhymes with generic gun talk with no metaphores or similies or any imagination or effort put into the lyrics.... but again that isnt what hip hop is about, and shit like that is an insult to the culture. money has turned hip hop into something it shouldnt be, im not saying the money in hip hop is a bad thing, but people now are using money to drive them instead of passion(eminem said that drove him more after his first couple albums did than the passion did). but understand, just cos we arent rich and famous does not mean we cant say anything about them. EVERYBODY is a critique and has the right to voice their opinion. fuck g-unit, fuck nelly, fuck mike jones, fuck ying yang twins, fuck master p, fuck ja rule, fuck any other trash mainstream pop rapper. they all suck, and got successe through nothing but clever marketing and gullable teenage wannabes that were made to beleive they are the greatest through clever marketing. |
^word up.
none of my favorite rappers are on a lunch box. |
wow, u took the time to b a dumbass
wat do u really no about wat we do in AMERICA? i will giv u da satisfaction that ur right about hip hop n rap, but u cant say shit about mainstream n how we view it over here |
wow you really hate commercial hip hop huh... I could give a fuck less right about now I used to feel the same way you do but shit at the end of the day keep it real and lyrical is a good thing and all but the money to feed a nigga family ain't always there I ain't tryna be bummin it jus to keep it real and lyrical I see guys do it all the time they look bummed out like really bad but they flow tight and lyrics but it ain't helpin a nigga eat and makin a Indie label with no buzz is hella hard and that still take money investment which alot of real and lyrical cats don't have... I ain't hatin on them shit make your money and live cause shit if somebody handed me some big label deal and the contract was legit I'd sign an be th hardest commercial rapper to ever come from a vagina and I'd make songs for the club and all that shit fuck it as long as the bank role is steady I'll make wack songs people think is catchy but on the other note I'd still bless the underground and do songs with local and nationally known heads and do battles and all the lil small time shit

Its not like America and the UK are completely different worlds. Half of americas music and TV gets aired in the UK, and american crap is always on the news. He has seen american people through sites like this and the media.
|
no im not say'n he doesnt c the american muzic i'm say'n that he has no idea wat we actually do here, he doesnt no wat the niggas down the street from me think about rap, n i dont mean that literally, like there acually down the street
|
hip hop did start off as a self expression thing......but i'm sorry to break it to ya like this...but those days are over...so all anyone can do is deal with it....now rap music is about if you are appealing to an audience....if so then obviously you'll have a better chance of "making it"..but if you don't..then thats just not gonna cut it....these people that are big right now....they have music and an image that are appealing........and thats just how its gonna be..
|
you got the wrong approach bruh...

|

The thing i love about hip hop as a general culture, its united youth worlwide.
Even in its pop culture form, its a highly expressive art form, that is common within youth worldwide. Its some what a connection and a peice of unity, when expressed properly. |
mic i read your first post and laughed.
first of all, i get radio play on american underground stations, ive been to american to check out the actual scene in some cities n shit, so dont like i dont know what im talking about. ive done my homework on how to work the business side of things and i know if i push myself properly and promote everything effectively i could make a decent living off music. hip hop isnt what you are telling us to stop hating, hip hop is a lifestyle, its graffiti, break dancing, beatboxing, DJ'n, MC'n.... and most of america these days do not realise that at all, and most americans fail to realise the history of hip hop and it offends me how many americans dont even know who the founder of hip hop was. the UK scene is raw, and gets so much love from the greats of hip hop because it is exactly what hip hop started out as in america.... kool herc, mos def, krsone, and so many more have come and performed in the UK at deal real, and then come back just to relax and take part as a FAN, without any form of bodyguard e.t.c, they love it here and say the american scene has been ruined by corporations and rappers being blinded by dollar signs. its not that i hate the mainstream, but the mainstream isnt real, i like a few mainstream heads but the majority of them are generic and bore the living shit out of me with their fake talk n synth beats. why do people think underground is depressing music???? dilated peoples are depressing??? mos def is depressing??? krs one is depressing???? roots are depressing??? come on now, stop being so pedantic. |
Quote:
are you serious???? get rich or die tryin was horrible... P.I.M.P???? fuck outta here.; guess whos back, well ill just say 50 was better than ever on that, BUT he still got outshined by sum sick beats and most of his featuring artists outshined him aswell. just for saying 50 is nice at all proves how dumb u are. |
Quote:
when these niggas first came out they was hard as hell.GRoDT is a classic, Nelly's first album was tight, he wasnt rappin about the same shit he rap about now. Master P was the fuckin shit 10 years ago, he aint doin shit now though. I wouldnt have even brought that nigga up. and Ja Rule's Vetti Vinni Vicci or whatever its called was tight. |
ja's first album was ok i spose, not summin id part money for, g-unit as far as im concerned allways been weak, never liked anything by them, master p, same goes for him.
|
soo...if you liked 50 when he was underground liek most people, but you think he's wack now, then you youreslf fit into the EXACT SAME CATEGORY of FUCK the mainstream. Dudes just aren't the fuckin same man. I don't give a fuck if you can sing on a hook if your shit is WACK, like anybody else.
blah blah blah, etc etc, mic young, you're a fuckin mongoloid. you should wear a foam helmet |
Actually hip hop was created around Clubby Party Tracks...Its music......the main meaning of music too me is just somthin too dance too.....yaddamean
|
^^nah man that's def not true. Afrika Bambaata created "hip hop" and the term "hip hop" before there was even "hip hop music" and we were still spittin over disco beats (since there were no "hip hop beats") with lyrics from the voice of the people, people in the streets that wanted to make a difference and create change.
Sugar Hill Gang outta Englewood NJ did the first "clubby" type hip hop track with rappers delight, years after "hip hop" had already come into the world. And even Rappers Delight wasn't a "club track" it was a track making light of situations anyoen from the hood could relate to, lol like bad food and the shits |

EXACTLY!!!!!! i bet alot of people also dont realise how much of an influence the punk era had on hip hop at the time it was around. if you look back at the history of hip hop, look how alot of them dressed and you will see how similar it was to the punk dress of that day. the entire hip hop culture got its influences from several genres of music rangeing from soul, jazz, blues, as mentioned also disco aswell. music in general has and allways will be a form of expression, even rave music, the people who make it make it to fit the mood they are in at that time. and people say im dumb and cant have a sensible debate and hear i am schooling some of these americans on a culture started in their country haha. big up to apexx for being one of the few heads with actual knowledge. im guessing you remember the days of black sheep???? they dropped some classic ish. |
^^^tsss black sheep??? son, the memories hahah. and you're def right, Hip Hop artists back then definitly use to dress pretty flamboyant. You ever seen the video for The Message? Dude looked like Billy Idol's stylist.
yo, you know Terminator X died in April??? Bam gave the eulogy and you're right man, the percentage of cats on this board that acutually knwo what they think they're talking about is < 3%. |
Hip hop - Rapping(Mc'ng)/beat boxing/break dancing/Graffiti.
Why must people go by talent and say which isnt hip hop and which is. Its just a different form of hip hop. Some rap about society. some rap about Bitches and ho's..some rap about killin niggas and the drug game...some rap about dances. its all rap. which is an element of hip hop. |
^^nobody said jack shit about "talent" yo what are you talking about?
somebody could be horrendously wack and still make hip hop, just liek someone can be horrendously wack and still be a rapper |
who said i said anybody said anything about "talent" i was making a statement.
and in all actuality that is basically what is being said when it really comes down to it. people feel that the mainstream isnt "talented" enough to be labled as "hip hop" because the music they make is "nothing but catchy hooks for 13 year olds to sing to". okay well....thats just saying right there its all about opinions on who has talent...or i should i say who's Hip hop and who isnt?. I dunno..my views gone stay the same but Im not really understanding why people pick at the mainstream all the time..when they are doing the same thing people who are underground are doing...Making Rap music for people to relate to.... |
meh, im more entertained by pop music these days that old school, i like banging music, but still like old school
|
whaaaaaaaaaaat, why the fuck did i not hear bout him dieing??? how he die??? shiiiiiit thats shocked the shit out of me lol.
hip hop - is a culture, a life style(all the things i mentioned before) hip hop music is music made to feed that culture(which lets face it people into that are into underground/old school stuff e.t.c) rap music is what you catch on the mainstream made to entertain the none hip hop fans(people who dont live and thrive off the culture) notice how i didnt say music and said culture???? there is your difference. |
Fuck hip hop. Poetry is where it's at. :whacky:
|
Quote:
you did. right here: Quote:
i don't see how you're drawing lines about "everything i hear is hip hop" when no one said anything about talent dividing music. here's the skinny, most hip hop artists are more aware and more intellegent than rap artists, so naturally their lyrics have more thought involved and more substance, or as you call it more..."talent". |

:) Thats just the quote I need to replace the Fat Bastard one on my sig. Thanks. |

yeah man, believe it or not, I didn't hear about it on one single music channel, not one "hit" radio station or none of that and I didn't find out till a month after it happened. he passed of heart failure or something to that effect |
