Theres no difference, I believe if you have people vote on battles, choosing the best rapper alive with the same criteria is just as pragmatic.

Haha @ "realness", i'd have you know that most rappers havent sold dope and capped asses. Its all gimmicks. I mean, lets be honest, Hell Rell is hard, but I doubt he did anything outside of brawls, gun carrying, and talking tough.

i'll put it like this... there's 1000 rappers that are the same "type". theres a best of that type among those.


but combine the other 10000000 types of rappers and you have no best.

To me, the arbitrary "type" is not relevant, if you base a rapper's skill on the basic anatomy of a dope verse and not a "type" you have, fundamentally, a best rapper. But when you have rappers that are on the same fundamental level, it becomes subject to valid and thoughtful opinion.

Flow is defined by syllables that cooperate with the beat in question, while the rhyming has to be virtually flawless and not choppy fragments. The dope verse has a climax of some sort that gives it that polish and sheen.


Dopeness has to be on par with what logically constitutes a brilliant verse that incorporates all aspects of lyricism. The climax might consist of a solid punch, a line of outstanding wordplay, or a witty metaphor. Simply put, any one favorite rapper can be your own, nobody can change that, but universally, you have to give credit where its due.

If you prefer listening to Lil Wayne over KRS-One, perfectly fine, even I can understand why (lol), but you gotta get real and know who's the better MC of the two.
